I went midweek a couple weeks back and the place was slammed with families by noon. each lift ride the people i rode with were talking about how awesome it was to stay at the hotel "right next to the slopes" After being taken out twice in the lift line by people unable to stop, and twice by some noob grabbing onto me as they fell getting off the lift, ive sworn off camelback.
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted February 19 Report Posted February 19 Yeah makes sense mid week there would be a higher share of hotel guests

The guy managing the ski operations is supposed to be good. He's new this season and they've been on point with the ski ops, snowmaking, etc. But Camelback was ruined over the last couple of decades by bad infrastructure decisions that no ops manager can fix. The waterslides changed the layout of several very busy trail runouts making them awkward and frankly, dangerous. The hotel itself isn't a problem but guests will walk in regular shoes out onto the runouts around Stevenson to access the mountain coaster which is again, dangerous. But the biggest issue is that the mountain was designed around 4 top-to-bottom lifts: Sullivan, Stevenson, Cleopatra and Marc Antony. The runouts of the trails were built with access to those respective summit lifts in mind. Removing Cleo and Marc Antony leaves you with a bunch of trails that now end awkwardly in the Sunbowl beginner area and require either long skates over to Stevenson, or a slow ride up the beginner lift back to the 6-pack ex. Sullivan lift. And dropping your summit lifts from 5 to 2 (Bailey barely counts at this point) removes A LOT of redundancy. If either of the high speeds goes down there is practically no way to access that side of the mountain anymore. Some of that can be addressed with new lift infrastructure, but some of the changes to trail geometry you can't really fix anymore. It's a bummer. CBK is a fun hill to ski for PA. There's also a great spot off Nile Mile to take an emergency dump in the woods. Try that at Blue. 2 1

I just looked at some satellite photos from the 90’s on Google earth…seems like camelback and mountain creek both had a “who can destroy the flow of our mountain with a waterpark” contest. I still think creek did worse but man camelback went through some changes.

CBK should ride bigger than it does now but as you said, a lot of the trails don't get enough traffic because they don't lead back to lifts anymore.

I think this is the first year they're off the map. I don't remember last time Marc Antony ran and it hasn't had chairs on it for years. Cleo hasn't run in a few years. Last time I rode it was maybe like 2015. It only ran a few weekends a year anymore. Not sure if there's plans to replace them but I'm not holding my breath.
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted February 22 Report Posted February 22 (edited) That bites those lifts were the best way to avoid the crowds. Haven’t been there much for last 8 years of passes elsewhere Bailey not running much either? Edited February 22 by Ski2Live Live2Ski
