    WOW!

that skier/boardercross thing was a chinese death trap, literally. i dont know how many times i gapped over asians stuck between the rollers.
  3. me, trevor (freeridintre), larry (romeop), and a few other friends are going to be riding saturday and sunday. i called them today and they wouldnt give me a straight answer about opening though. any idea on lift ticket prices?
  4. phil, the skis suggested would work the best for the average skier as far as i am concerned. like the ski bum rep said, you dont NEED a wider ski for skiing here, but you can still use one. the skis i am on right now are 4FRNT MSP's; 180cm long with a 92mm waist, and i love them, but they certainly arent for everyone.
  5. i knew i should have driven up on the mountain today! i was up there for thier tent sale thing and we drove up to the burn pile to check and see if they had any new rails, i knew i should have gone all the way to sidewinder. any more pictures than that one? as for the management... you know how their commercials, brochures, billboards, etc suck? well, a few years ago, i went to talk to their marketing/ PR lady and told her a lot of people didnt like their stuff and that i thought i could do a better job. so i showed her some of my stuff, some business cards i had done, some other designs, and a video i put together. everyone i showed the stuff to thought it was much better than what blue had, but she thought otherwise. another reason is because i wrote them emails explaining why i didnt like the park, and what they could do to improve it. i got an email back saying that they are always open to suggestions and willing to improve the park. so i waited a few weeks to see if they actually did anything, but they didnt. i sent back another email asking why they say they are open to suggestion but then dont do anything, and apparently, outlook was not quite working right, cause it sent like 50 copies of the email to them, so they thought i was spamming them and were contemplating pulling my pass for it.
  6. roundtop does have one. i seriously doubt blue does, because, like trevor said, they dont want liability issues. none of their rails had gaps onto them last year for exactly that reason. a staircase setup requires either a gap on or an ollie pad at the top step on, either of which is much more "hazardous" than being ride on. unless blue changed their sketchy insurance policy, i wouldnt be so sure about a staircase. and doug, as far as me getting blue to link to pasr on their site, management hates me up there. i've gotten into so many arguments with them about the assonine things they have done, its not even funby. they actually almost pulled my pass for good last year, but thats a story for another time.
  7. to clear things up, as of now: josh, from sunday river, walked sidewinder with the groomers, freeride directors and mountain managers to see possibilities for the park this year sidewinder is wider than it used to be, they cut out the corners, some spots are steeper the pipe is slightly wider than before i saw two new rails, a downkink and a frame, both single barrel the steep downkink from last year has been mellowed out so its not as steep anymore other stuff i have heard, but dont know to be fact cause i havent seen for myself: new pipe groomer more rails thats as up to date info as i have right now
  8. sib, i wanst referring to your post, i was referring to ski's right above yours.
  9. we're leaving from lasalle in north philly. taking rt 1 to 95 to njtp to 84 i believe. or something like that?
  10. MADE? do you mean sunday river? from what i have been told, josh, sunday river's park manager, is making us a bunch of new stuff, as well as overseeing the design and construction of sidewinder this year. last i was up, i saw two new rails, a single barrel downkink and a single barrel a frame, although they could have had these last year and just never put them out.
  11. ski, are you saying the recon is similar to the 6 star? because its not, really. volkl stopped making the 6 star this year because its longitudinal flex was just too much for most people, and they replaced it with the allstar, a little softer tip to tail, but much more torsionally stiff. where are you skiing most of the time? if you are sticking to mostly east coast stuff, like a lively, springy ski, or like to ski bumps a lot, go with the dynastar. if you are going to be skiing a little more powder than we generally get here, go with the recons. both are great skis, but the 4800 is a little more east coast oriented than the recon.
  12. i'm leaving from philly next friday evening, getting a hotel room for two nights and skiing saturday and sunday, the 19th and 20th. anyone else going to be up there? i have a feeling its gonna be super packed...
  13. gotcha. all of blue's have the feet so i just assumed since they did and they are pretty crappy, better rails would also have them.
  14. thats awesome! its about time someone around the valley area signed on for a legit event. last year was roundtop, creek, tanglewood and camelback, all far from my house. now i have one close to home. cool
  15. gurp, they told me last year what you just said. someone give me a legit reason as to why a rail requires more snow to set up than a box. it sounded to me like they were just making excuses for why their park sucked last year. if i can set up a rail with a truckbed full of rink snow, why cant they do it with the amount of snow they have? the lips are the same, as are the landings. doesnt make any sense to me.
  16. looking at the forecast, i think killy could potentially open up this weekend. i dont think it will be good conditions though, so i am waiting til the 18th.
  17. doug, did you have a bad experience at nestors? what was it that turned you off?
  18. gurp, every time i was at boulder last year (for the z games, on several occasions) the park sucked. yeah, they had the downkink rail with a gap onto it, but they closed it as soon as the comp was over. they had the finals on a course with no jumps at all, and every other rail was ride on. bear has improved a ton since it was doe mountain. the snowmaking in my opinion is the best around, and they actually have legitimate sized jumps too.
  19. theo point of the mold being taken barefoot while sitting down is because that is when your foot is in its natural most balanced position. the footbed is designed to correct issues that happen when you put weight on your foot i.e. collapsing arch. your arch collapsing inside the boot can cause too much pressure to the inside of the shell, which obviously makes the boot hurt. it also makes the transition from edge to edge slower, because you dont have a solid stable platform connecting your foot to the bottom of the boot. if there is room for your foot to collapse, then you have to compensate for that room when you roll that foot to the outside. from personal experience, since i have had footbeds made, i cant ski without them. you notice the performance difference right away, as well as the comfort difference. whats nice about the footbeds we make is that you can tweak them. if something doesnt feel right, like pete said to you, there is a moneyback gaurantee, but in most cases, we can add a little more support in some spots, or give you a little more room in others, and that will fix the problem. i am not totally sure, since i havent had experience working with the surefoot footbeds, but from what i have read and heard from other people, it doesnt seem like they have the same degree of customization as the conformable footbeds do. i'd like to see how the surefoots are made though.
  20. maybe some of us just dont feel like driving 2 and a half hours to ride? i dont see why everyone is so set on everything being street style. who cares if gaps onto rails are out of style? who sets whats in style anyway? i dont find street style to be any harder, its just different. personally, i'm more comfortable hitting a street style rail than hitting a 10 foot gap onto a rail, the consequences are so much greater. i'm surprised no one has touched on this before, but did it ever occur to you that maybe the mountains that get ranked highest contriubute to the magazine by advertising in it, thus giving transworld money? this is how gear reviews are conducted for the most part. if you look at any gear guide, at least on the ski side of things (i dont snowboard so i dont know how their reviews go) the companies that turn out the "best" skis always have the biggest or most adds consistantly in a magazine. wonder why k2's didnt make freeskier's editor's choice this year? its because they spent their advertising budget making skeeze instead of putting ads in freeskier. see the connection yet? bear creek doesnt have the kind of cashflow to throw adds into every single snowsports mag out there. there is however, a short writeup in this months freeskier on bear. with no advertising whatsoever. so i guess they're doing something right with their insignificant little hill, huh?
  21. papa, what exactly did you do to his boots? i could be wrong, but i thought surefoot uses premade molds and has a computer match which mold works best for your foot? 195 is a lot for a footbed, people though 125 from us was a lot.
  22. larry i'm jealous. if i didnt have the shangai six premier sunday night, i would have gone. i'm definately down for this weekend, i think i have recruited a couple people from school too. i think another hotel room is gonna be necesary this weekend.
  23. qtown is closest. 476 north, get off at the qtown exit, take 663 east to 309 north, its like 2 lights north on 309 off the right side.
  24. $45 for a full tune. just cause you want certain bevels on the edge doesnt make it any more expensive.
  25. i think the winning trick for snowboarders was a 270 front board 270 off faster than any other snowboarder even hit the thing.
