  1. did they get like the 30 foot long wintersteiger at bear? if so, thats the same one we use at nestors qtown, i am pretty sure it has all those different base structure settings, but not positive. all of our techs have been doing a really good job this year, putting out some of the best looking tunes i have ever seen.
  2. getting the board redone before the season starts is a good idea. when you get the base redone, you shouldnt be charged extra to have it waxed too, that's part of the whole process. at nestors we charge $45, which seems like a lot, but you get any scratches in the base filled, the base ground, edges sharpened and beveled to whatever you specify, and then the base gets hot waxed. your board will end up looking brand new, on the bottom at least. for my skis, on the odd chance i do sharpen them, i usually go 3 degrees on the base and 1 on the sides, that way i dont hang up on rails but still have some edge to ski with. that usually works well for me.

i'm not sure if we still have any, but i know in the past we have had clear lenses for a frames and wisdoms, as well as o frames. just curious, are you doing all your skiing at night, which is why you want the clear lense? i have used the high intensity blue lense for the past 5 years and i like them a lot better than a clear lense, it gives the snow a little more contrast so you can see terrain changes a little better.
  4. i used to work in blue's rental shop when i was younger, and saw first hand exactly what happened to trevor. the manager will totally go off on people for no reason, but thats what happens when you spend more time at the bar than actually managing the shop...
  5. ^yup, i was embarrassed for them. made the inrun and lip all haggard for the people who knew what they were doing too.
  6. i dont get a satanic rocker smiley face too?
  7. how can you say the skiers were not well represented? every skier in the finals except one was throwing 270s on. half the snowboarders in the finals were falling on the in run.
  8. how wouuld that be for a rope tow on sidewinder? i couldnt tell where exactly that was, but i thought it was the access road to the main lodge, no? i've driven my car on the mountain before and no one said anything to me. people drive up to the top of the vista chair all the time to birdwatch and they dont seem to care. hike up right before they open and there is actually snow on the ground or right after its over, and that might be a different story. i was told very promptly to to get off the mountain last thanksgiving break for hiking around in the snow.
  9. we offer a bootfit garauntee on every pair of boots we recommend to you. if you go with the boot we recommend for you, you have all season to bring it back to us to work on it to make it fit correctly if something about the boot didnt work out for you. we always do our best to get you in a boot that fits your foot, your skiing style, and your budget. we can put more padding into a boot, stretch or pack out the liner, heat mold the liner if it has that feature, add heel/toe lift to a boot to help correct fore/aft stance, add canted toe and heel lugs or plane the bootsole to correct lateral alignment, stretch or grind the inside of the shell to give you more room if its needed, etc. come into the shop and check it out, you have nothing to lose.
  10. good job to everybody that was there today. i was the kid in the red armada hoodie that racked myself on my last 270 attempt, which hurt...bad. but it was a good time. i came in 10th overall, ryan miller from blue mt came in 7th and nipples came in 6th, and handed out a crapload of stickers too. hopefully we get a good showing at whatever event comes up next, its always fun to ski with new people.
  11. those pictures dont do it justice at all. i went up with one of my friends and hiked around last sunday, and sidewinder is now two to three times wider than it was last year in some spots, and a lot of the corners have been taken out too, so its much steeper with a better view of everything around you.
  12. finndog, i'm going to have to disagree with you. yes, i work for nestors, so i am biased, but i have seen work that "reputable" shops from vermont have done, and have had to go into those shops to get pads and such for friends' boots on trips, and we do a much better job doing custom boot work than most shops i have seen. out of curiosity, who do you trust?
  13. its basically a reichle boot with a much better liner, so yeah, we'll see how they work i guess.
  14. we're getting old, huh andy? we've been in this whole freeride game for quite some time now.i'm 21 now, this is my 18th year on snow, close to half of those trying to hurl myself off jumps in the park. i'll be back and forth between blue and bear this year, so i'll probably catch you whichever mtn you decide on. both are fun places to ride and both have their ups and downs. if you know where to look, blue has some really fun trees when we get snow.
  15. the fit usually isnt as good. you cant fine tune it quite as much. you have one buckle (instep buckle) trying to hold a large portion of your foot in place, which it does, but you dont have as much control over where specifically you want the boot tighter or looser.
  16. its true, i tried the kryptons on the other day, since everyone has been saying that they fixed the liner and they fit much better now, so i decided to give them another shot. they do fit better than they used to, but its still a really weird foot. i have a very narrow foot, and the kryptons are still to narrow in the toe box for me, but they are kind of big in the heel pocket. give them a shot though, it might just be the boot to fit you.
  17. just wondering who is going to roundtop on sundday... apparently the setup is two c boxes back to back, which could be interesting. kinda takes switchups out of my bag of tricks, but oh well. who's all in?

    Boots

wear them a few days, it will probably go away. if it doesnt, you have several options. you can put in a heel lift, which will pull your toes away from the front, but also give you a more aggressive stance, which you may not want. you can press out the liner completely in the toe, if it is just the liner you are feeling. if that doesnt work, as a last resort, you can stretch the shell of the boot to get a little more toe room, which is what i had to do for my boots. you'd be surprised what one or two millimeters will do for the fit of a boot. i dont recommend trying to do anything permanent to the liner or the shell yourself though, bring your boots to nestor's and we'll help you out.

    goggles

i've had my a frames for 4 seasons, and the only thing wrong with them is one of the lenses cracked, so i need a new one, but thats because i wacked my face off a rail. the tint doesnt wear out at all, and they dont scratch that easily, because its not just a coating on the top of the lense like most other goggles. and jeff, thats a nice goggle gap you have there.

    goggles

what i meant by optical clarity is that the curvature of the oakley lenses is much closer to that of the human eye than any other company. with other goggles, your peripheral vision starts to get blurry because the lense doesnt match the curve of your eye. its a lot more noticeable on a flat lense than it is on a spherical lense.
  21. we had a little jam at nestors last night, just a few kids from the shop with a rail i brought from my house and some ice rink snow. it went pretty well. i still wanna get the baseball rail at northampton before they take it out....

you can't go wrong with a frames. i havent found anything else that comes close as far as optical clarity goes, thats for sure. they fit really nicely too.
  23. lurker, its clear that skiing related activity takes precedence over everything else. your family should have realized this by now.
  24. you determine what level you want to be in. there was a kid last year who definately should not have been in the intermediate division, but was anyway. some people werent so happy. and yeah, steve would probably be in the intermediate division just because of his age, little chris is about the same level ability wise but he was in the intermediate division. its kinda funny, he's so light he cant carry enough speed to make it over the rainbow box.
