  1. Got out on the snow about 8:15 and ran into JFSKIDAN. He was headed over to East mt. I did some warm up runs on exhibition...frozen crud. Moved over to thunderbolt which was a little better. I never went over to east and just hung around thunderbolt and challenge. Place was pretty empty until ab out 1030 but even after that lift lines not more than a few minutes. Went out after lunch and only took 3 runs in the pouring rain. Ski team was setting up a race on challenge and I was hanging out waiting to watch Stephen. Snow was heavy and I was soaked so I just went in the lodge. Gotta hang out till 2:30 until he's done. Man I'm bored and I forgot my book. I'm sure conditions could not be helped because of the warm up we had but overall I've ridden better days at JFBB. Kids want to tube tomorrow so not sure what I'm doing
  2. First time I went to boulder this season. Kids had off of school today and we got up here around 1. Had some lunch unpacked and decided to wait till bb opened. Got there about 2:45 and waited I. Guesat services 20 minutes to have our passes scanned. That was kind of annoying. Anyway not crowded at all. Boulder park trail has some impressive looking jumps. Didn't see anyone really hitting them full force. The kids lapped tanenbaum park? For a while and love park. Since I don't do any park stuff I stuck to mitl weg and draufauger. Both had nice snow. Then met up with the kids and we did some runs down snowdrift and bunnys elbow. Called it a night around 5:30. Looking forward to frost tomorrow
  3. I love your pictures, Jeff. I really don't think I've ever seen a sky that blue (especially not in Jersey).
  4. I'll be there with the kids. Stephen will be in race team practice though. David and I on snowboards. He has black jacket, tan pants. I have brown pants light blue jacket.
  5. jfbb website has "phillycore pasr pics" on their media page, awesome!
  6. Sounds like you had a great first day. 3.5 hours is what my ski commute is, but it sounds like your destination is much better than mine. Looking forward to the pictures.
  7. Wow, what a great day at frost. Temp about 18 deg when we arrived @8am. One park was nice. Some chunks at the bottom of demattes/exhibition. They tried to smooth some of them out. Thunderbolt and challenge were also nice, no icy spots to speak of. They put a bench at the top of one park. I never felt so lazy as I did sitting down to strap in, was nice. Roads in Jersey are still pretty bad from what I hear so we are blowing off school tomorrow and staying over. Should be empty at frost tomorrow. I wore my mouse trap lanes t shirt hoping to mmet a fellow pasr at lunch but no such luck.
  8. We're in again. Great conditions Sat.Mostly stuck around One park, exhibition and challenge. All groomed great and nice coverage. Place was pretty empty, I think the philly area snow kept most people away. Great first day for me.
  9. We'll be there Sat and Sunday about 7:45. Stephen still fits into his bright camo jacket. If you spot him, I'm probably close by.
  10. We'll be there next weekend, ski race team starts then.
  11. I'm out, I can't drive 7 hours round trip for 1 trail. Congrats to Big boulder for getting opened today! Everyone have a great time.
  12. I can't get a human on the phone at jfbb. According to the wording on the blog it seems like only Freedom trail will be open today. Anyone know if this is the case. I'm still in Jersey and would drive up for a day trip but not for one trail.
  13. If they open Sunday we will head up tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
  14. Last email I got from the ski race program said first day would be Dec. 4th. But that was a few weeks ago. My boys have been talking about getting on the snow non stop. We all hope its this weekend. I'm going after school tomorrow to buy my kid some new boots, just in case.
  15. The first year my son snowboarded, I got him a seasonal rental from JFBB. I believe most mountains offer this as well as our local ski shop. His rental was clip in bindings which are junk. They probably don't even make them anymore but stay away from them. You can also get seasonal boot rental. Just make sure he tries them on and they feel comfortable. The boots should fit snug and your heel should be secure at the bottom and not ride up. You should also be able to wiggle your toes. If possible get cable laced boots and not tie ones. Cables stay tight longer. The tie kind always seem to get loose faster. That's just some basic stuff, I'm sure someone else can offer more info.
  16. ok, ok, I'll get my kid new boots. Just thought there might be a way to get another year out of them. Thanks for the help, as usual good advice.
  17. Thanks for the suggestions. I will try Kevin's idea. I tried to go to Alpine Sunday but they were closed. If the footbeds don't work I guess I'll try FGT's idea and just tell him to suck it up. If I can't get another year out of them I'll try to ebay them. They are probably small for anyone who reads this board. But Solomon's size 6.5 boys if anyone is interested.
  18. Yeah that title sounds dumb, I know. My son's feet have been growing at a rate of 1 size per year (sometimes more). I have had to buy him new boots every season. This year his feet only grew a half a size. I am wondering if someone knows a way to do something with the liner or anything I can do to save myself from having to buy yet another pair of boots for him. Suggestions greatly appreciated. They are solomon's if that matters.
  19. My husband's vote would definitely be for the motorcycle. And Toast, I think its awesome you bought a house. I have 3 guys working for me that are your age and they all live with their parents.
  20. I haven't been to too many places in Vermont, but how about Stratton? I suggest it since it has that whole village of shops and restaurants. There is plenty of slopeside lodging (at a premium price). We've had fun every time we went there.
  21. We stayed at Bromley 2 years ago because it was cheaper than Stratton. Stratton is much bigger with more terrain, but I really did enjoy Bromley. All the trails end near the lodge. Kind of impossible for me to lose track of my kids, which is always a problem when exploring a new mountain. Bromley seemed very laid back and the crowds were non existant. I would definitely go back if I had the opportunity.
  22. If you can find a place to ski, great. But you are in Rome for God's sake! Soak in the culture and make the most out of your time there. My friends and I were going to backpack around Europe the summer after we graduated high school and then they all backed out. Once you get old (like me) you don't have time to travel. I hope someone replies to your thread and you find some great snow, but don't ignore where you are, you may never get back there again. Just my two cents. Wow, I really sound old.
  23. I wish my pictures looked like that! Very nice, I love the one of the guy running in his boxers.
