  1. EPAWA is pretty good. been paying attention to them for a while now. i dont think they hype shit, and they really haven't said much about the weekend storm other than its there on the models, and could be pretty significant. They were really on top of Sandy, when everyone was saying that was going out to sea, and it wouldnt affect us. And yes, there are a ton of facebook weather sites, posting model runs from a week or two out, which is just silly. with facebook anybody can be a weatherman.
  2. Challenge glad was in great shape 3 about 3 weeks ago, right before a huge rain, followed by the huge freeze. Tbolt glade is basically nonesense since it doesnt get much manmade. One park glade is great, but that too hasnt gotten the love it deserves from a snowmaking standpoint. Crazy to kind of think the glades were in better shape last year. If frost got the same heavy snow i got here in philly, it should make for the start of nice week of getting things filled in.
  3. I'm coming up with 37" so far this year for Philadelphia. That number was derived from the internet, and i believe it is before today, so take it just as that. i do think philly has had more snow than northern areas, which is dumb.
  4. We are in warrensburg, where they roll the sidewalks up at about 7 pm. More gas stations around here than anything else. They do sell beer though. The hotel is pretty cool, but it might be worthwhile next time to stay in lake george, where i would imagine there is a little bit more in the way of food and beverages.
  5. snowed all day but didnt really amount to much. lots of fun trails. unfortunately they have been plagued by the same weather pattern as the Poconos, thus, the glades are un-skiable. lunch was excellent. real nice skiing with a few "oh shit" moments thrown in there with some ice.
  6. Definitely will be better conditions than last weekend. rolled in around 10:30 or so. East Mountain was nice, floyds was probably the best it has been all year. Challenge glade not much better than last weekend, a little dust on crust, and rocks to avoid in the usual places. Elevator was ok, better grip than last weekend, with some avalanche snow at the bottom that looks softer than it is. they pulled the rope on Exhibition about 11:30, and it was nice soft ungroomed man made. made a bunch of runs on Exhibition, which were really fun, but pretty frigid on the face skiing under the guns.
  7. Could it be that montage gets more fresh powder tomorrow than JH? I got the morning ticket 2 weeks ago and was on the snow before 9 am. They did check tickets at 1 pm though.
  8. I keep running that PASR day at Frost through my mind, when a bunch of us jumped of the East Mountain lift. Grumpy lifts suck.
  9. Spied these extremists on my last liftride getting first tracks on gonzos base grind. How people think 3" of fresh puts everything into play is beyond me.
  10. Didnt look quite that nice when i got there. Left a few minutes late and got behind too many vehicles going too slow. Still nice conditions. Trails that didnt get freshened up are down to ice, like floyds. Crowded except east chair.
  11. Such a shame. Challenge glade was spectacular last friday. Hopefully they freshen things up for the weekend.
  12. No radio day will ever be as crowded as MMR's day off on the slopes. i doubt very much that day would be crowded.
  13. The new owners have really put some dough into the place, and it looks great. Definitely need to stop in the lodge to see what they have done with it. The morning lift ticket is still a great deal White lightning. Pic really doesnt show how good this was.
  14. We got more snow this year so far than last, (i think) but have less to show for it this year. i'm looking forward to the second half of winter, which will hopefully produce more sustained "winter" weather.
  15. Opps. Let me finish. Lots more man made in the Elevator as well, the baller route is no longer sketchy, boulders have been covered up and the bottom is not quite as treacherous with the ice/snow boulders pretty much covered up. Floyds was closed again with huge whales on it. Started grooming it about 1 pm. I looks like they will finally have it squared away for tomorrow. They definitely had some issues with the cold temps and blowing snow as crews were out on east mt thawing pipes. The run out to east lift was also strangely icy, and there were some other spots where it looks like they had to open the water valves to drain covering a few areas in what R2 used to refer to as glacier ice. Pics. Happyland. E glade Elevator
  16. Excellent conditions today mostly everywhere. They blew a shit ton of snow on the mountain it looks like paid a little extra attention on the fun stuff. Happyland had really good coverage today, it was a blast. best it has been thus far. It is top to bottom now. It wouldnt be happyland without a few rocks to avoid. Eglade also had great coverage and skied just as well.
  17. Fun night last night. Had a great time. Thanks to mbike for the hookup on the passes. Sweet deal.
  18. Im in for tonight. Prob 4 - 4:30 arrival.
  19. Anybody thinking of Friday? i might give it a go.
  20. If you happen to have a stick welder handy, You can thaw out pipes pretty quick, provided they are copper. But, really you need to figure out where they are frozen and warm them up.
  21. I'm kinda hoping they really dont do the rolling blackouts in the poconos...i hope the electricity stays on at my place, or it could be a problem.
  22. Blue is definetly good with communication on the social media etc...good or bad, people like to be informed. .JFBB...not so much. Im not real sure what they are doing there this year, but it seems like updating facebook and thier website is just a huge inconvienence for them.
  23. Blue and Boulder are both closing today because PJM is discriminating againts those customers that like the constant flow of electricity. Rolling blackouts to handle the electric demands of the cold temps.
  24. Fun day for sure, but definetly one of the coldest days i have ever skied with the wind. i have skied on MMR day before where it turned ugly by 10:30, but today was really just like any other weekend day. Not too much camo and jeans today, i would say todays temps help to keep people in the lodge or at home. Unfortunately they did groom 90% of the trails. Fun stuff at frost is always in the trees and the elevator. Challenge glade is still sketchy in some spots, it would have been nice if there was a better base further in the trees, but much of todays crowds were not real interested in tree skiing. Floyds was closed, but it sure did look like it was open to us. we had a short discussion with patrol on the meaning of different signs posted on the mountain, when i neglected to stop at the top of floyds and actually read the posted "closed" sign, which really looks alot like the "ungroomed" sign to me. i was curious as to why it was closed, since i had skied it two days prior, but they mumbled something about snowmaking equipment on the slopes (not), and management was looking after our well being. Before i made any more skiing faux-pas, i asked them if it was ok to ski the elevator glade and the elevator, to which they said that was fine. So, its ok to ski around trees in the elevator glade, and all the boulders in the elevator, but not ungroomed snow on floyds......got it. it was really just too cold to have the hands exposed today, so pics are somewhat limited. My Iphone also has a new feature that turns itself off when its feels lts too cold out. Happyland Elevator
  25. ^^^. Thats what i am hoping for. Trees got filled in a little bit last night also.
