  1. I know this post will be more about snowmaking, but I want to try and explain what Peak Resorts is trying to do by opening up early. I also want to help explain how just because a ski area has almost all fan guns, it doesn't mean they can open after a night or two of snowmaking. Peak Resorts is owned by SMI Snowmakers, or maybe it's the other way around. SMI is the manufacturer of a lot of fan guns in the United States and that's why you see places like Mount Snow and other Peak Resorts installing fan guns. At the end of the day other resorts see how they are opening early and quickly, and they rush to buy fan guns to do the same thing. It's pretty much a marketing stunt for SMI and it is working really well. Last year BB and Mount Snow really helped SMI out by opening early. If you look back when news stations interviewed the resort manager, he would credit the "new, energy efficient snowmakers from SMI". What he should have said is that he just got lucky from a deep cold spell. What people don't realize and resorts don't realize is that in order for a fan gun to make a lot of snow, it has to be 20
  2. It's probably just a generic thing they send to all people in group sales. My guess is that it's referring to buying either a pass good for 6 days worth of skiing or 6 days worth of lift tickets that can be used whenever. If you log into the store, you can see you can only buy season passes and not 6 session passes. That's why I just think it's generic because some groups just buy lift tickets, not season passes.
  3. For many years there has been a long wait list for the seasonal lockers. You should really call and find out if any are available.
  4. Barney's Bumps at Blue and I think camelback has some bump runs. I haven't been to Camelback in awhile though so don't quote me for sure.
  5. Well I don't know about loud, but they apparently make some kind of noise that increases the risk for suicide from people living nearby. I don't know if there is any truth to this or not though, it's just what I heard.
  6. I think someone answered this before and it was with tubing.
  7. Here's an update to it: http://www.mcall.com/news/local/police/all...0,6273113.story Looks like they got the go ahead from the township.
  8. Well that's what I'm saying is the catch 22. If they produce clean energy then they are limiting the carbon emissions (I'm not really sure what term is correct) from the power they'd get from the power company, which would help the raptors and environment. But if they make clean energy, then they risk injuring the raptors that fly into their turbines. May want to check your link, I get an error page.
  9. I just find it funny that they are making an effort to produce clean energy, which will help the environment and the raptors, but then they get shot down saying how it will not help the raptors. I guess it's a catch 22.
  10. Great boots, I have the Nordica GTS XR's.
  11. No, I wasn't on here a lot this past winter and haven't updated it.
  12. On the back of the blue season pass it says $25 so who knows.
  13. Ha that reminds me of the article ski wrote about blue 2 years ago on April Fools Day. I got half way through the article he wrote and realized it was a joke when I saw Doug's butchered last name
  14. Here is an update to the accident: http://wfmz.com/view/?id=233729 He did die from a ski accident. Very sad to hear.
  15. Nothing yet. Like Phillycore said, it could have been something unrelated to skiing. We won't know until after the autopsy.
  16. I was just on WFMZ's site and came across a story about a kid who was found unresponsive on a trail at CB. http://wfmz.com/view/?id=233729 Wondering if anybody heard anything about this? I'm sure there will be more after the autopsy.
  17. Haha. I hope everything is okay and if anything was broken, I hope you have a speedy recovery.
  18. That's terrible. Send him my get well wishes.
  19. Sorry to hear about your loss. It's sad when something like this happens.
  20. This maybe legit. In the morning call two weeks ago in the ski section of the sport pages, Ray Tuthill's daughter was talking about future plans within the next two years. They included water slides, mountain biking, condos/hotel, and some other stuff I can't remember. She went on to say that none of this is in stone yet, but to expect it in 2009 or 2010 as a possibility. From the article below: Here is the rest of that article. Great article that gives the whole history behind blue and the ways Ray Tuthill went about making it. http://www.mcall.com/sports/outdoors/all-b...23.story?page=1 EDIT: I posted the link to the article I was talking about
  21. Exactly what I was thinking haha
  22. Just went on the Camelback website to check something out and came across this on the homepage:
  23. That's the other one I thought it might have been. I didn't think Palmerton looked that good downtown haha.
  24. Sorry to hear about that Jeff. Sadly I think your season is over this year, it's going to take longer to recover from this than your shoulder. What sucks even more is the fact the season pretty much started. My best wishes to you and your recovery. I'm guessing that with the poor visibility/conditions you fell and your skis didn't pop off and it created enough torque to break your leg. Sorry to hear about this again.
