Snowed 5” last night and another 5-8 during the day expected. Dumping at the house right now (also taking a dump actually). Should be a fun one! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Taos 2018

The last 3 years we’ve been renting a house in Arroyo Seco, NM which is about halfway between the town of Taos and the ski valley. I like it because it’s only about 15 minutes from skiing. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Taos 2018

What a great surprise today was! They reported 2”, but it continued to snow all day. Skied like 5” on much of the mountain. I guess I’m the luckiest son of a bitch in the world, but today was the first rope drop on highline ridge and west basin hike to terrain. Highline was only open through Juarez and west basin only through west blitz trees, but I was probably the 20th person to ski Juarez this year and it was really deep. Bottomless. I hiked once more to do Juarez again and made 2 hikes to west blitz trees which was so nice but not quite as bottomless. Played around off of bobs, moes and walkyries again. Skipped all the lift 8 bullshit. Word is more terrain opening tomorrow as they are looking at another 5-8 inches tonight, although it never really stopped snowing today aside from a few quick breaks in the clouds. I only brought my all mountain skis because conditions were expected to be so bad. Having fun in the 3D snow on my skinny skis!! Taos 2018

Interesting day at Taos but really fun. First, man are they hurting for a base. I’ve never seen Al’s with so much shit poking through in the 30 years I’ve been going to Taos. Neither of the ridges is open and part of the backside is still closed. The good thing is that 7 inches fell at the base and was much more up high. I started out on the frontside and skied lift 8 for a while when waiting for the backside to open. About half the runs were left ungroomed which made for some nice boot to knee deep perder turns. I kept going up lift 2 to check if the backside was open and on my third time up I noticed the rope was gone and proceeded down honeysuckle. Got probably 3rd tracks down walkyries bowl and because I know some local tricks, I knew that Bobs would be good if it was open. After coming down walkyries, I snuck around lift 7a’s bottom shack and entered Bobs run which was knee deep and I had first tracks. I followed bobs down under lift 7 and had untouched powder the entire length of lift 7. I did that routine 3 times and was exhausted. After a little break I searched the sides of trails for what was left. I saw some prep going on on some of the upper steeps which look almost ready to go. Possibly some snow for Thursday so my fingers are crossed. My pics aren’t great, I wasn’t stopping to take off my gloves in the morning and it was cold as shit all day. Snow report says 7”, so looks like I’ll have some powder on day 1 although on limited terrain and a tiny base. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  11. Just got back from a day at Blue with my 7 year old son. Called him out of school and got on the sixer at around 9:50. Started with Paradise since this was his first time out this year. Took a few turns for the little man to get in the swing of things, then we were off and shredding. Did paradise 4times, Burma twice with the yeti park, lazy twice, switchback once. Run of the day for us was sidewinder to the lower park, to the 2 big roller jumps next to the six pack. We did that 4 times. My sons favorites were anything that had jumps, I think he’s gonna be a park rat. Got a pretzel in the lodge and he passed out like a champ on the ride home. Despite pretty crappy conditions was one of the most fun days out for me! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  14. Call me crazy, but something like a Cham 107 could be real nice. Huge shovel and tapered tail that does well beyond what you would think for its width in powder and keep the rtms for hardback days. Probably find yourself on the 107s often, but watch out for your knees, fat skis are the devil! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  18. Just got home from a sunny session with my 8 year old daughter. We got her rentals taken care of, redeemed the $29 pass and hit the snow at 10. Went right up the six pack and skied paradise first. Big thanks to the Ernie Blake Ski School at Taos for teaching her to ski, she’s actually pretty good! We skied paradise 5 times, lazy mile, switchback (from the top of the Main Street lift), sidewinder, and Burma 3 times. Only one fall for her the whole day. We split a cookie and a Powerade in the lodge when we were done. Conditions were a bit rough, especially on sidewinder which was ball bearings, but the sides of paradise where it was soft was fun. Great one on one time with my daughter! My son gets his day on Tuesday. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  20. If my kids’ school doesn’t have a 2 hour delay I’m hoping to come up after dropping them off. Probably a 9:30 - 10:00 arrival depending on roads. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  21. I thought the 4 runner spins at 7:30? Eat some granola bars in the car next time and hop in line early! Have fun! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  23. I hadn’t had a chance to post this story until jus now, so I apologize to anyone who has already heard it. On day 3 in Jackson we were waiting in line for the first gondola and I was right behind a big burly guy with a bushy red moustache. I came to find out that this was the same guy that almost kicked Doug’s ass a couple years ago for questioning the local line etiquette. This dude was very aggro, hollering at a fat guy with a cup of coffee who was one of the wallets that ski from 8 to 8:45 am, “no food or drink on the gondy, chump!”, as well as several other funny things. I chatted with him a bit and he was real pissed that the lift attendant was letting some wallets through after 8:45. He screamed at her about this, so she began to enforce the rule. The next group that attempted to come through the gate, she very professionally stopped them and said they couldn’t board until 9. Just then, the burly guy noticed something and said, “oh shit, that’s the one guy that can do anything he wants here, she’s in deep shit”. Jeff was able to read the monitor on the rfid turnstile which read “Tommy Moe - Victor, Idaho”. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
