Maksim Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 Hey all. So if you did not see my earlier post, moved out from NJ to Lehigh Valley, living about 10 mins north of Easton. Part of the appeal of our property is the nearly 2 acres and some nice hills. From one corner of the property to the other there is a fairly gentle slope, dropping about 50 vertical feet over 400 feet, with a nice bump which would make an awesome jump. Yes, it is not a replacement for a mountain... BUT I figure it would be awesome for my daughter who will be 3 by the time winter hits and our friends/family members. So.... How feasible? How much pain in the ass would it be?
indiggio Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 Pray for snow! Depending on how much snow you get, might have to roll down the hill to pack it down enough to slide on or get a blow up tube to help pack it down.
toast21602 Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 Hope it snows. I have about an 80’ drop from top corner of my yard to the bottom with decent pitch to start. Easy to ski when there is snow. All grass so no need to worry about rocks. Just avoid the fire pit and garden. Not much else you can do to ‘maintain’ it. 1

Shadows Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 Have your dog poop in stategic spots all summer. Seed bumps 1 1
GSSucks Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 It will be slow, do not expect to be able to make turns. I may not be the best at math, but that is roughly a 7.13 degree slope if it is continuous from point a to point b. It will for sure be fun for a 3 year old, but I dont know how much you will enjoy hiking for the turns you would get on it. 1
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 It would be badass if you could get towed in. Not enough pitch to really move much. Homestretch at Blue is steeper than that.

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 The only maintaining I can think of would be to shovel snow from other parts of the yard onto the ski hill...and then packing it down so when it gets cold it turns solid for a base...remember Ladies and Germs..ice is nice..speed is good..dress like a cosmonaut
JFskiDan Posted August 16, 2018 Report Posted August 16, 2018 It will be more fun than my totally flat, small yard. Make a cool ski slope for your kid. Buy a 4 wheeler or really cool tractor, just ‘cause.
Maksim Posted August 17, 2018 Author Report Posted August 17, 2018 Haha, thanks. So yes, would be predominately for my kiddos and kids of same age in the family. Main question was about whether would need to pack the snow or not... good idea on the snow blower. Have a lawn tractor attachment (snow blower) and can throw it in the right direction.

Only thing is that if you have 6” of snow it packs to about an inch.

indiggio Posted August 17, 2018 Report Posted August 17, 2018 Evidently I could possibly do it with my air compressor.

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted August 17, 2018 Report Posted August 17, 2018 What do you have an air compressor for??
