  1. Today was a day that could make you question ever wanting to go to a resort again. The weather, scenery and snow conditions were fantastic! We left Boulder at 7 and had lots of rain and fog until we were about 30 miles from our exit. Then the sky cleared up nicely. We couldn’t believe how lucky we were! Forecast was calling for snow above 10,000’ and our TH started at 11,000 so we fully expected clouds. I had Mayflower Gulch in my radar for a while, just for a hike or snowshoe. There is a super mellow downhill area up there that I wanted to let Shannon try so she could practice. Once the trail opens up you come across some old miners cabins. One of the peaks is Fletcher, which I hiked last summer from the other side. We spent a lot of time chilling at the cabin site. There was no wind and the weather was warm. The picture everyone takes from this hike. There were also several birds hanging around that have obviously been well fed. We did not feed them, but Shannon put her hand out and they kept swooping in. We headed to the right up the little “bump” that is Gold Hill. Couldn’t go all the way to the top because there was the mother of all cornices up there. Looked far more impressive in person. Had a nice easy ski down back to the car. 50 degrees when we reached the car. Then a bacon cheese burger down in Idaho Springs. A top 10 Colorado day for me! Raining and fog again the further east we went. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  5. Yep I used to burn the midnight oil chasing fish when my girls were little but now they’re both playing travel softball and I help coach both teams. Bye bye free time March through November. All good pretty soon I won’t have this time with them and I still sneak out once in a while. Even got to ski on this trip in December

  9. April 21, 2019 Abasin day 6 if 6 Hey All, I’m back from another fun day at Abasin. I arrived at the mountain a little before 9am and was once again relegated to the first overflow lot..not quite as crowded as yesterday but pretty busy. Temperatures were mainly in the 30s on the mountain with a variety of sun and clouds. Conditions were packed powder on the upper mountain and crispier packed powder and even some mad sweet and low on the lower mountain. The rope tow was running to get over to Montezuma bowl and I did a few runs over there..I also skied Powerline at least three times and the last time I skied it the light was so flat but I still skied it basically full speed because I know the run well. For about a lift ride there was some snow and graupal..I also rode the lift with a patroller who wanted the bar down which was refreshing. I peaced out a little after noon and the sun was shining and I was warm but not sweaty like yesterday..then as I drove to Denver there was a bunch of rain and I checked the Abasin webcam a little while ago and they received like 2”..wow just wow...I stopped at chili’s and just checked into my hotel room at the Hyatt place Denver airport. Im in their club so got two free bottles of water. Gonna chill for a few hours and then go across the street for some drinks.

  10. It was great, the boys really loved it. Didn't tell them we were going until we were at the gate. Even though the older one had guessed it several times (airplane rides mean Disney to them) there was still an appropriate amount of surprise and excitement when we told them. It was pretty crowded, with pre-Easter and Spring Break happening. The popular websites had it as 9 or 10 out of 10, but we were able to pack in plenty of activities due to knowing how to work the Fastpass system, as well as springing for an upcharge early morning event at Magic Kingdom. They wouldn't have gotten to ride the 7 Dwarfs Mine Train if I hadn't, since we only had a few days heads up to book Fastpasses they were of course, all gone. Also rented a car when we would normally just rely on Disney busses, figured with only 2 days and a morning it would help maximize our trip.

  11. Been skiing all over..I believe 6-7 runs so far...Have been on the lifts with locals, Boulder person, Chicago person and Erie PA person. Light went super flat around 1030 and the clock at the bottom of the Zuma lift apparently broke yesterday at 420. Also saw the Easter egg hunt take place. I’m older than most of the parents lol..I never took place in an Easter egg hunt. I hope the taco truck is open at the base. I could use a margarita.

  13. I felt like I got a good workout in Saturday and Sunday at Abasin because I parked in the overflow lot and had to walk 1/4 mile instead of 100 yards lol. Keep posting pictures and reports!!!!

  17. Sorry Sib, I can't remember the trail name. It was on the front side fairly steep and moguled with a smattering of trees. The main problem Big Al encountered was getting his remaining ski released. At 69 years old he's not as supple as he once was... I'll say again, of 35 trips out west, we really had one the best times ever on your mountain and in Whitefish. Just sorry we didn't share a beer together...

  19. Actually, I don't have heated boots, but they are toasty when I put them on my feet. Also, wind chill is not actual temperature. As long as no skin is exposed, you're fine. There was only one day this year when my feet felt sort of cold (it had been warm and sunny the day before and this day was cloudy, and I'd dressed for the prior day), and I never lost feeling in my toes. It's a matter of layers. They will shut down the lifts here before it's too cold for me. I do use a double face mask, I do wear two layers of long underwear, I do have a down layer as well. It also makes a difference where you ski. If you're riding a lift with wind in your face the whole ride up, you might get cold. But there are always lifts in some direction that are less windy. The very worst lifts for lack of protection from the wind are 1 and 5. Both can be brutal!!! Especially as they come up over the final rise. Finally, where and what you are skiing can either cool you or warm you. Cruising the blues at Warp 9 will make you cold. Working hard in bumps, trees, powder, etc. will heat you up. You learn all these things when you ski up here. We normally have about 10 days to 2 weeks of super frigid temperatures. This year it was more like five weeks. I skied plenty of days where the Summit temperature (not the wind chill) was -14. Good times. I prefer those days because no one is here and the super cold air makes Glacier seem super close and we get that diamond dust sparkling in the air. By the way, there's projects in the works to expand lift-served terrain: https://us1.campaign-archive.com/?u=8bfee85ec43c6496c2d381e3f&id=a048d110be

  21. If a lift is spinning and the price is reasonable I would strongly consider going

  22. Per their Instagram it says that the lift will be spinning, whether that means a top to bottom run or not is up for interpretation.

  25. Pretty sure they can hear. Not quite reading yet. No, Orlando doesn’t really mean anything, but they know Disney is in Florida. Parking at the hotels is I think $20 per night, parking at the parks is $25 per day. If you are staying at a Disney hotel, you don’t pay to park at the parks. If I am staying on my DVC points, I don’t pay to park at the hotel either.

  26. No grilling (they do provide grills/areas near most resorts) and I imagine there is a no alcohol rule. You can bring in any food and non-alcoholic beverages you want tho. I should test that theory sometime with a whole brisket, lol. Would have to cut it with the plastic food service knife tho

  31. Day 5: Partial sun and warm 22° when we started our last day. Another 1" or 2" overnight. Conditions again are excellent. Sure is nice being able to see. The weekend crowd was evident in slightly more lift lines and somewhat more crowded trails. 9 runs then off to have a cup of soup and a couple of beers at The Hellroaring Saloon then caught the bus to town. Dinner at the Buffalo Cafe. Great Burgers. Whitefish has everything. A nice mountain with tons of varied terrain for all abilities. Not huge but big enough. Great Restaurants, a Microbrewery, a genuine fantastic Dive Bar and great locals. And all at very reasonable prices. I can see why Sibhusky moved here! If you get the chance, you will be impressed too... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  34. May Day at BB is back this year! Haven't heard anything on set-up, or if it will be lift accessed like other years. If it is more than a hike park, I'd consider it. It is sure to look similar to this picture they posted!
