  1. Woah dude sick Go Pro!! Cant believe I'm being featured in the same post as J.F. Dan, Steeze, NM Ski, PARidge, Atomic and m-ski-bike!! Wow I definitely hit the big time now.
  2. Omg breakfast is early today! I might actually make it for 8 am.
  3. Today should be rad because there was a dusting overnight, and the freshies will accumulate throughout the day. I'm worried about getting buried in the perder tomorrow and ski patrol not finding me until all the snow thaws out in May.
  4. Made sure to get a gondola car in that one shot above, since I missed getting one in the tagged restaurant pic, so you know what they look like.
  5. Still want to get to Killington while the conditions are perfect. If I wait a few weeks they might be crap by then.
  6. Yes I actually did. Completely forgot that I should take my skis off before getting into the gondola line. Then after that I remembered the rest of the day. Hopefully no one saw that or they might think I'm a gaper. I thought Hayride was pretty easy. Liftline looks tough, it's currently ungroomed, a double black, and right under the lift so everyone can point and laugh at me when I fall dramatically. Not sure I'll be doing any double blacks this time around, maybe next time. I made the Cliff Trail/Lower Nosedive run twice I think, which was fun. Tomorrow I'll look for some glades in that area.
  7. Day 3: Today was another excellent day at Stowe. Pregamed before breakfast by getting the car loaded, and then had breakfast at 7:30 sharp. This time woofed down coffee, Cherrios, 2 glasses of OJ, sausage, scrambled eggs with Tabasco sauce, and a blueberry scone. Then ate a slice of bread on the walk to the car. Chewed as fast as I could and made it to Four Runner quad only 5 minutes after 8, which was fine because the line was non-existent. Guess everyone took the day off. First run of the day was Lord to North Slope, which was much easier to ski today as it was groomed overnight. Then I headed to the gondoobie just because it's fun to ride the gondoobie. Got there at 8:20 and there were about 20 people in line who were also there just for the gondola ride. The line gradually got longer and at 8:30 I was crammed in with other 7 people which sucked. Then fellow riders started smoking MJ, which was not cool because they closed the window and I got some second hand. My first run on Gondolier was probably the best run of my life. Since the gondola was shut down yesterday, all the powder was untracked. I skied down it like a badass playing my favorite song Hard Times by the Jetzons, and made some awesome turns in the fresh powder at a high rate of speed. Skiing next to the gondola made it an even more memorable run and got me so stoked for skiing, a feeling I hadn't had in weeks. I felt like the best skiier on the mountain. Then I skied into the gondola RFID reader with my skis on and turned into a complete gaper. Hopefully toast won't use the gaper tag on this thread as a result. The rest of the day was a lot of fun. Made a few more runs on the gondola side, then ran Spruce trails for a while until my 10 am lesson. After the lesson and lunch at the Cliff House Restaurant, made some runs on Upper Perry Merill (???), Cliff Trail, Lower Cliff Trail, then over to 4 Runner to Lord, Ridgeview, Toll House, and Easy Mile which was lame-o! Also tried a few blacks today which weren't as difficult as I thought they'd be. Hayride was a piece of cake and would be a blue at another mountain. Upper Nosedive was full of moguls so was more challenging, but I made it down ok. Another gaper moment was in the 4 Runner line when I had my skis pointing in a V shape to move forward, and then my left ski took out the "Alternate" sign and I fell. Took a minute to get up and the lift attendant yelled "jerry of the day". Just kidding, they are very professional at Stowe, he only thought that.
  8. Could be a possibility. My job is pretty lax about when I take off as long as I give them sufficient notice. I love this hotel and actually am enjoying it a lot more than the run of the mill Holiday Inn. It's more interesting because they decorate the lobby, breakfast area, and hallways with knickknacks and ski memorabilia. Plus they have 2 giant teddy bears sitting at tables in the dining area which I lol at everytime I see them.
  9. The Lighthouse may be my favorite restaurant here. $8.80 for quesa-dillas and a good size salad. Plus the server keeps referring to me as his friend every single time he comes over. Think ill come back here tomorrow.
  10. Thanks. Great tip. That's what I was trying to do later in the day. I think that definitely helps. Skiing moguls is not easy and seems to separate the n00bs from the pros. I'll keep working on it. I'll probably be getting a pass for Blue soon so I can practice Barney the Dinosaur's bumps.
  11. Oh shoot I didn't do that today. Just ate the bread dry. Guess I lose half a gold star for that.
  12. The scenery is really nice along it, and the chapel is a nice touch. I think I'll do that run at least once a day. It's pretty nice and since it was groomed today it wasnt nearly as tiring as yesterday.
  13. Thanks Root, that's a good analogy. I frequently notice my hands too far back, which is out of habit, so that's something I'm working on. I found it helpful to focus on the spot where I plan to pole plant and kind of reach out towards it.
  14. He wasnt hating on my RTMs. He mentioned that he owns 4 pairs of skis, and said 1 pair is narrow like my 81s. Lol. But he said they're fine for my ability level. Thanks for your words of encouragment.
  15. Yeah I'm not sure either but they're the experts and I guess it has a purpose since we spent a few minutes on it. I guess my takeaway from that was to use less edge on short radius turns and keep the skis relatively flatter...???
  16. He had me stand on a bump so the front and rear of the skis were off the ground, and then move the ski in the same motion as a windshield wiper. I think this was to demonstrate that short radius turns are done in that manner, and that it's easier to make turns on top of moguls if you do that. Still not sure how to translate it into my skiing but it was a good concept to understand.
  17. Yeah you were right. I guess I'm not actually carving yet. The lesson was about parallel skiing fundamentals and criticisms, and working on ungroomed terrain.
  18. I only fell one time here on Upper Smugglers because it was out of my league at the time. Deep moguls, narrow, and steep. It was more of an "oh shit" fall rather than accidental, because I thought I was going to collide with someone or just get out of control, don't really remember. Leaned back a little too far the last Chin Chip run and felt like I was going to tear my ACL or something, since that's always in the back of my mind when I'm skiing. I recovered from that and then did better on that run.
  19. I got a brownie with ice cream also. Mussels were $14 a little overpriced but to be expected on the top of the mountain at a fancy ski resort.
  20. Lesson Report: Overall, I think the lesson was helpful. There was only 1 other person in my group, so it was basically the same as a private lesson without the cost. The instructor was very knowledgeable and gave me good criticism. I think the main things I need to work on are: Consistently staying forward throughout both the turn and whole run. He compared to proper position to an "athletic stance", like how a person stands while playing tennis. I already knew I ski in the backseat and Atomic mentioned that, so I think I need to work on this more than anything else. Pole planting earlier. I had no idea that I was pole planting too late into the turn. Stop pushing my heal out. He said I am making mini hockey stop like motions in some of my turns, but not always. I'm still trying to figure out when exactly I'm doing this, and am not sure how to correct it other than by making more gradual turns. These habits are ingrained in my skiing from doing them repeatedly without knowing any better, so it will take a lot of time and conscious effort to fix them. I would have benefited from taking a lesson sooner, but was stubborn until I realized that I could use a few pointers because my skiing seems to have somewhat plateaued this year, although I definitely think I've improved somewhat compared to last season. Ungroomed terrain is my biggest weakness in skiing because I don't have a lot of opportunities to practice it regularly. We took a run down Chin Chip, and I was struggling and felt out of control at first. Then the instructor recommended I stop trying to bomb down ungroomed runs, and instead go back to basics and traverse the slope until I feel more comfortable. Doing that helped, and I started pole planting on top of the moguls. I found it helpful to look forward to the point where I want to pole plant to make the turn. After a few minutes I felt somewhat more comfortable in soft moguls and this helped later in the day when I returned to Chin Chip. The other thing he demonstrated is turning the ski on a flat surface to help make short radius turns. I'm still trying to figure this out because I feel that my turns are too wide, and I have a difficult time making short radius turns on steep slopes. I asked a bazillion questions, such as "am I leaning into the turns too much", but he told me to focus on the things above for now which I think is good advice.
  21. Ordered wings and Stromboli on Sunday night and took it back to the room because I was tired and wanted to watch the world series. Maybe I'll go there tonight and eat in. The food was really good. Looking for a cheap meal because I just spent $60 on new gloves, $94 on another ticket, and $35 on lunch. It makes me a little nauseous writing those out.
  22. I agree. The run down Easy Mile was boring and wasn't worth the 15 minute lift ride. I did Easy Mile because after doing full Toll Road I took the lift and saw a lot of untracked. Now I know why it's untracked down there at 3 pm because it sucks and seems to just be a way to get to the main trails from Toll House. Regardless, glad I did that area once just to check it out. I like skiing the whole mountain and also enjoy the long trails once in a while, like Toll Road and Great Eastern. It's relaxing just cruising and enjoying the scenery for over 10 minutes.
