Where have I ever said anything negative about any race program? sheeeeeeesh

The 60% or so of the various ski club racers that I have met that go to ASRA and ISSA -- Remember the cup race thingy last year?

Free Ride team and blue mtn. so sick this year
Papasteeze replied to Nipples's topic in Blue Mountain
Come over to BC Wednesday night if the weather holds up they should be running Nastar. We will switching up between 2 sets of new skis - so that he can determine better which ones he wants for his GS race on Sunday. Both boys have gotten lectures from me about racing on open slopes. Stupid stuff has happened to often, too frequently lately. Ridge about decapitated a rider sitting on slope out of sight below a headwall at ELK on Saturday when he was freesking with his friends after the SL race. All of his worst spills have come from the open slopes and there have been a lot of them this year compared to last. Please do not encourage my kids to race down any slope that is not set up to race on. Thank you! -

No racing on open slopes.. Sorry Doug, I am not going to allow you challenge my 12 year old kid to race down a slope backwards. What are you thinking? And so you know, his handicap is around 50 going backwards and that was from last year. -
They have intervention programs whenever you want to reverse the brainwashing.

The ski racks at an ASRA race while everyone is in the bar reviewing their race results? TTY Sunday

NASTAR is cancelled for tonight, 1/31/06 due to weather conditions and thin cover. We hope to make snow tonight, please check the website tomorrow for updates on Wednesday night NASTAR. Join us February 9th for the second event in the SHOWDOWN series, a Best Trick competition!

Ok I stand corrected, It is a traveling Beer League.

Okay there is more info up. They have shaded the top 16 - Questions: I assume those top 16 are in the Derbies? Explain the "Top 3" column at the far right. Ridge will be in Breck 2/12 - If he races well at BLue, mathematically it doesn't seem that that should hurt him from being "invited" to the Derbies?? http://www.paracing.org/mambo/index.php?op...d=337&Itemid=46

Dissing an american ski team olympic hopeful is worth sitting out the entire race, in my opinion. I was thinking more the GS course. I know that they set up brushes only - but I don't believe that they set them up with gates using your thought of where to turn or in relation to staying high in a turn. BTW - Ridge does not stay high enough on the slalom course and appears to not be able to recover once he falls behind. But with only 2 slalom races and no more until the Derbies there is no time to take another look. I have a coach in Breck that will be working with him the week before.

About as good as they have been with the US SKI team - excellent I would assume.

hmmmmm.. I'll report back...

Thats a great idea! Does the CAT team do that? Heaven forbid I should suggest it?

NASTAR is a great venue to play with gear and techniques and use the clock on any day to guage the results. If you take a look at Ridges first race day you will see groups of races with dramatically different results. The last race was on his "race day" skis in speed suit. Every day can be different. Some times the course speeds up as it gets scraped off, other times it slows down, wax wears off, ruts cause loss of edge contact or chatter.

Pretty good. I found a racing organization that deducts seconds and adds seconds for sportsmanship!! Thanks for the link!

The Course was closed not open to the public. Read the thread, or can't you view that site? Warren Wilkinson set the course for Schlopy at PC. Warren is the same gatesetter/coach that will be with the MSRT clinic in Steamboat end of March. I think that is as close as you can get to the real deal. As far as signatures on skis, If you think and believe that it will help then it probably will make you go faster. Sports are full of superstitions, you know that!! Who is the female racer that is trying to find the guy that she coincidently rode with on a lift twice on the times she won.. Well - she is looking for that guy to ride on the lift with her before every race.
-
Uhhhh - wrong... Who skied with my kids more than anyone else by hundreds of times. Why should a parent of a racer race? So that I can talk knowledgeably about it? Thats like saying all the monday morning quarter backs that watched the sunday games are not allowed to talk about them with any knowledge because they have never been on a football team. Using your analogy, I should not listen to the Camelback coach, because if he did ever race, it was many decades ago??? I may race someday when I have time, otherwise I just view ASRA as another recreational beer league, that is my opinion and I am entitled to it. I never raced Nastar with any thought of performance until this year and that is only because everyone asked why I don't race. So I race a timed course and here again I am told that NASTAR is nothing, I should do ASRA --- WTF? why do you guys stop there? Why shouldn't I race World Cup? MD Vertical challenge is exactly that. Nastar is Nastar - ASRA is ASRA - USSA is USSA - FIS, Olympics etc etc. Wake up people, they are all good! When one training philosophy is branded as being the only correct one, then there would never be room for improvement. Ironically - It took an American who does not conform to the norm and is outspoken to win the World Cup last year. Thats a fact. Thanks for the compliment. You said that I am a decent ski instructor, because that is all Ridge has had, well except for the few days this year on the CAT team.

LineSki called it!! This was written 7 weeks later. CB - are you listening?
-
Now you know!! Thanks for speaking up!!! From day one of CB's opening - I have had hour long talks with CB's management, trying to explain park basics and the problems. I tried to speak up! I think the people at CB's park management are stuck in their own little world. Oblivous to the progression. CB is by far the most likely place for a big accident to hit the headlines. No doubt. We bought a season pass there this year. I try and find every where else to take steven, I really don't want him in those parks.

The MSRT Team - (Dranows) My buddy as some have said, got invites to watch Schlopy train at PC on a course set by Warren Wilkinson. I think that says a lot about the validity of race training clinic offered by these guys. If you interested in viewing some great pictures, then visit this thread on the Nastar Forum! http://www.nastar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=7818#7818

Good choice, Montage PASR Day should wait until the conditions improve.. Far more PASR people will be at Blue on Sunday. Montage is good, but you should wait for them to get some more snow before you visit.
-
Let us know what to expect, Nipples is bugging me to get him back to BC, because of the updated park. Word was that they were going to redo the park again Wedneday night although I can't see how with this weather the way it is. Anyhow - we will be ther on Sunday for a PASR DAY!!!
-
Ah yep.... one can learn that Skidude is very good at Gs and OK at SL So you know --- no one has yet touched on the difference between a GS and a SL turn
-
So hear I am ..... The general concensus is that I should be listening to the Camelback coaches, yet you guys preach something different.... So should I ignore you or the camelback caoches, because the information is contradictory.

Thanks for the well wishes. BB and JF hold special place in Steven heart, he talks about them alot. This is Stevens year! Last year was Ridges, this year is a building year for him. He is doing really well as a first year J4 first ever racer in the USSA program. If he continues to race look for him to make a mark next year. Keep us posted!! Slim possibility that we will be out for the USASA Nationals in Tahoe end of March - are you going to be around then?
