Middle finger to snowboard binding manufacturers

Recommended Posts

Remember 10 years ago when a strap broke, you simply unscrewed the broken piece on the slopes and bought a new one for $4 in the rental shop? remember when any strap could fit on any binding, regardless of manufacturer?   those days are long gone.  nowadays, binding manufacturers make specific straps that only work on that particular model, and like college text books change the page numbers each year so you cant buy used books, binding manufactures change the screw sizes each year so you cannot find replacement parts.  to even unscrew the broken toe strap on my ride bindings, i have to take the whole fucking binding off the board.  i tried using my old rome bindings, but due to their design bullshit, i had to not only take the binding off the board, but take the whole thing apart just to see if it was a male or female strap.  turns out, those fuckers use a hybrid strap that doesnt use screws.  i called ride and they said to go to my local shop, so ill try that today but im not hopeful, cause most shops have generic straps, which as i just discussed, are essentially worthless nowadays. plus, my bindings are 3 years old, so screw sizes have changed since then.

Its total bullshit but what you gonna do......in college I had a ford escort station wagon I got from my uncle for 400$. A friend of mine drove it over the curb and crashed into a sign, we replaced the 1/4 panel on the cheap and the mother fucker didn't just have different screw sizes and three different heads but a mix of metric and standard to this day it still makes me wonder who the fuck decided on that.

Got that right. For years I just added the new page numbers to my syllabus but kept the old ones so students could buy eight-year-old books if they wanted to.

Good luck with the binding. I think Blue's shop has a lot of different board binding brands? At least I think so, from killing time over in that section of the store one day. The guys in the shop are usually pretty great about that kind of stuff.

Well, indirectly they pay for everything

But the page number thing was for my college students. I'd still do it, but they made us switch to an electronic book this semester.

You teach college students?  When do you leave for Sun Valley?

I've been an online adjunct for 18 years at a college where I used to teach when I was a grad student. Those RTMs didn't pay for themselves, you know! :D

I leave for SV on Thursday, interview Friday, and return Saturday. Then the following Thursday I go to Tahoe--almost the same schedule except I'll get to ski out there on Saturday and come back Sunday. I will definitely post a TR!

I refuse to adapt to an ebook. I hate them.

Me, too. The students mostly hate them as well. I'm just an adjunct, though, so if I want to stay on this particular gravy train I have to do what the department says.

Well, I want to avoid crowds if possible, and it would be nice to go someplace with lots of Truckee locals so I could chat and maybe get a feel for the place. I can ski at Boreal on my Max Pass for free, but also I'm not going to skimp on my one day in the Sierras, so I'm cool with paying for a regular-price ticket. I don't want to go to the school's affiliate mountain because if they see how I ski they might think twice about hiring me.

Maybe Alpine Meadows?

I would maybe say start a suggestion thread but Eaf would likely hijack it.  I've only ever skied Northstar at Tahoe..I was there at the start of a four year dry spell for Tahoe so it was more like Vermont skiing but with the California price tag. I think it was like $105 for lift ticket and $30 for parking.

I assume you are flying into Reno?  Now that's a nice city!!! That's where Pugs live.

Jesus, I just looked a the discounted prices on Liftopia. I think I may just go to Boreal.

Could be a much less crowded option as well...Tahoe is jam packed on weekends. It's the jersey shore of the Bay Area during the winter. I remember ordering a round for my bro in law and his dad at some random umbrella bar at the base of northstar and it was like $47.

Of course, a lift ticket should be tax deductible as job-relocation expense. After all, you have to explore if the area is a fit . . .

Lol, I was given a snapshot of the employment package, and if  I'm lucky enough to be hired, the position comes with a season pass to a nearby resort. Enduring 500' vert may be an investment in a gnarlier future.
