There is lots of snow on the ground, lets put the gear to work that you paid a ton for, even if its skinning the neighborhood roads. Post some pictures and trip ideas, lets get a group together and go for a tour! 5 1

toast21602 Posted February 2, 2021 Report Posted February 2, 2021 (edited) I couldn't get out of my driveway and neighborhood today so I was stuck skiing Mt. Mik and surrounding areas. Unfortunately the lifts weren't spinning at Mt. Mik, but the magic carpets got me where I wanted to go. Took a brief tour of some of the open fields and a few laps down the face, skinless. With 2'+ of snow and larger drifts I gained an appreciation for those who set the skin track. The looped route back was much better. Might try and find a nice local hill tomorrow afternoon. Popular Post Justo8484 Posted February 2, 2021 Popular Post Report Posted February 2, 2021 Got out Sunday night when it was still low tide, but 4"+ inches was enough to test out the CAST setup on the old jeffreys. Didn't really do any downhill skiing, just skinned around in the cornfields to get an idea of how the tech toes work vs the guardians. The difference is night and day. Don't know why i didn't do this sooner. I still need to trim my skins down because the old skis they were on were 122 underfoot, these are 110. Lots of blowing snow And the skis with tech toes on the CAST plates 10

I can't promise anything with time since it will depend on the conditions. I was hoping to be on the snow by 11:00. I can't imagine it would take more than 90-120 minutes for a full loop. If things get a little refresh on Friday I'd be in for another round on Saturday if ya want. I'll bring the hiking carrier so I can put rose on my back since she doesn't have skins. 😒 4

These opportunities don't come often in PA, so I had to try and pull it off today in between teaching and meetings. Pulled into the upper lot around 10:45. Parked in the first spot at the entrance. Booted up, skins on, pack filled, and headed back out. They plowed it pretty wide so there wasn't much space next to the road. I decided to head into the woods which were fairly open. Took that all the way down, skinned back over to the opening to find the cut. Just over a half mile in, I was where I needed to be. I made a right and skinned to top of the pitch before the line started to descend. I got there and it was completely untracked. I knew it was going to be a good run, or untracked because it was all grown in. Skins off. The first pitch only offers a few turns, and is a bit more hairy than I remembered. I got a handful of good turns there before if mellowed out again. At the base of that pitch I could see everything below all the way to the power line cut that was my access back. It was open, untouched, and delightful. I was able to get a few dozen fantastic turns down that face to the bottom where the power line was. I got to the bottom and there was nobody there to high-five so I did clapped my poles together a bunch to let out some of my excitement. Took a second to shed some layers because the power line traverse back to the road was about 1 mile. Skins on, and off I went. Not a bad traverse. It took me about 20 minutes and the worst part was navigating over some creeks that I didn't know were there. Got to the road, skinned up to the Burma lift, and then skied down to the 6er and took that ride up to see how the snow was. 5 minute lift line. Skied back to my car. Now sitting in a meeting and plotting when I can do it again if it doesn't get baked in the sun tomorrow. Start to finished took about 90 minutes even with stopping and waiting and all that jazz. 4 miles round trip. It goes, ladies and gents. There is no better time than now to hit that up.
