  1. You just described traffic on the schuylkill at any time between 5am and 11pm Likewise. New car is automatic trans, but no driving assist stuff other than blind spot alerts and backup camera parking notification stuff. I was hoping I could hold out with my manual impreza until cars were at the point where fully self-driving was available outside of a premium, but alas, time and mileage was starting to catch up and I didn't want to push it farther with a kid in the car.
  2. Visual Studio Code is probably the best IDE available right now for anything that's client-facing. Not great db stuff or lower level languages, but I think they did well to limit the scope to what they could do well. Atom did kinda pave the way for them with using Electron as its foundation though, so credit where it's due. Teams should be nuked from orbit. Everything about it is terrible, except that it's probably included as part of the office suite for no extra charge.
  3. @saltyant listen to @GSSucks above everyone else. He lived there.
  4. I imagine it's like Devil's Fiddle at Killy. It's never open, or well covered, so when it's in play you're just compelled to ski it regardless of how bad it is. Didn't find anything too bad in the Burma woods, but the Lazy woods had some sharks for sure.
  5. At DV? Elitism. At Alta? They F up the traverses.
  6. Yeah, I've only ever skied DV when I've had a ticket hookup. Can't justify paying that much more money just to ski groomers, in my opinion, but to each their own. I value good terrain more than I value exclusivity, prestige, and snobbery.
  7. @mbike-ski I thought that was like a Ski Utah thing? I didn't think that was specific to DV, but I've never flown in early enough in the day to take advantage. @saltyant are you saying Brighton is $x, and DV is $x + 106? As in, you're closing in on $200 to ski DV? In my opinion, absolutely not worth paying that much to ski groomers at DV. There may be a ton of them, but I didn't think they were exceptionally better than some of the groomers I skied at Brighton or Snowbasin. Obviously depends on snow conditions, and you can have a pretty big disparity between PC, the cottonwoods, and the ogden area stuff. Also DV is kinda just a cluster of a resort. It's super hard to get anywhere because everything is spread out over like 6 or 7 different little peaks. Someone who's skied there more than me will probably disagree, but as someone who's only been there a small handful of times, I found it kinda confusing to navigate around the mountain as opposed to somewhere like Snowbasin that's very linear. Edit: just saw the above post. DV does not allow snowboarders, so yeah there's a degree of exclusivity there, and the place is definitely swankier than Brighton. Zero lines? No idea. Lines that are shorter than Brighton if you're there on a weekend? Probably a little bit, yeah. You can ride the funicular and eat at the slopeside restaurant without skiing DV. Might be a cool option if you get into PC mid day to just swing up to DV, park and take the funicular up to the St Regis for a snack and a weak drink and take in the scene.
  8. right, without offering the "bonus" of being able to use the pass at other ski areas, i'm guessing they figure it'd be tough for them to start approaching epic pass prices. start throwing in things like a half hour early start, some sort of better VIP line situation (not sure what that could actually be), better discounts on food, gear, etc, then maybe the price gets a little closer to epic? i dunno. there's a lot of reasons we all like blue, but there's also (at least in years prior to this one...) that a lot of people preferred frost, too. we're spoiled this year with the quantity and quality of natural snow we've received. blue skis like a totally different mountain without anything off trail being in play, and in a normal year, frost's snow quality usually blows blue away and that's enough for some people to prefer frost, epic pass or not. basically, i agree with you haha
  9. Yeah I got tangled in the briars pretty bad when I skied it. Tried to stay a little left of the clear cut and get into the trees which were somehow actually more open than the normal line. Could be interested in a corn harvest this weekend if the freeze/thaw cycle cooperates. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. The burma lift wasn’t running until like 9:30? Were we at different blue mountains? I still don’t understand how after how many weeks of stupid lines, it takes them til 9:30 or 10 to get all the lifts open and attendants organizing the lines. The chaotic shit show at the 6 by 8:30 every day is getting really old. Get someone out there to organize that shit. Also had some idiot dick noser insisted on wedging his way onto the quad with us. Like, even under normal circumstances it’s polite to at least ask if you can ride with a group if you’re solo. Re: overflow lot, sold out tickets, crowds, etc... how is it that they’ve been sold out every weekend, but crowds were noticeably worse this weekend? All that aside, snow was still awesome and there were still fresh turns to be had in woods if you did some hunting. A rock somewhere between lazy and sidewinder didn’t like my line choice too much and decided to take a bite of my base, but nothing too tragic. Hope this storm pans out for another week of good snow at blue and pisses rain in philly so people give up on ski season. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Cornfields were skiing nice today. Got a quick slightly less than 2 miles in this afternoon roaming around some cornfields looking for something with enough pitch to actually make some turns. Found a decent hill that had enough pitch to get some speed and made like 6 real turns. Since I went out mostly just for the exercise, finding something I could actually ski downhill was a bonus.
  12. part of the reason i got a roof box. i have 6 pairs of skis in it right now!
  13. ate shit this morning on my ice rink of a driveway that i mistakenly shoveled yesterday right before the changeover to sleet and freezing rain. currently in the lot at blue and still snowing hard.
  14. currently in the lot working from car; rose is still skiing and it's still snowing pretty heavily. probably about 1", maybe a bit more since opening this morning. Coming soon is open, bumped up, and Xtra gnar, i almost got tossed once or twice. first tracks on 6pack line and t-bar, both good. trees off of main were waaaay lumpier than expected. the 2-3" on top of fresh groomers was great first thing in the morning!
  15. can't really find too much info about the specifics of that ski, but you can definitely measure the length of the ski, find true center, then measure that to the recommended mount point to get an idea of the offset. I'd guess it's gonna be in the -4cm to -6cm range, based on lib's stuff seeming pretty freestyle/freeride oriented. Ultimately, they're just skis. If you don't know exactly what you're looking to get out of deviating from the standard mount point, you're just chasing a white whale for the sake of trying something different, and it may not end up working how you want.
  16. Yup that's all pretty generally true. In most cases (I'm looking at you, K2...), the "center" line on the ski will put the middle of your foot over the narrow point of the ski, which theoretically centers you over the sidecut. Obviously this point can vary pretty greatly from one ski to the next. @AtomicSkier's Kastle FXs might be around -10cm from true center, whereas my ON3Ps are about 4cm back from true center. Those two skis have very different sidecut designs and intentions as a ski. If you ski with a more upright, neutral stance, you can generally push the mount point of a ski farther forward. If you really like to drive a ski through the shovel, you might want to move it back. That point also gives you reference as to where the ski is thickest. While you can stray from that point in either direction, you don't want to start flirting with putting screws into the ski where the core starts to thin out, if you can avoid it. Basically, it's a reference point that's going to work well enough for 99% of people. Exceptions include people skiing a lot of park laps, sliding rails, spinning, etc, or people who are very in tune with how they ski and how that plays with the shape and construction of the ski they're on and how they might want to alter that mount point to get the most out of their given ski. Happy to dive deeper on this if you've got a specific pair of skis in mind.
  17. Again, correlation does not necessarily equal causation. The cognitive dissonance is impressive, though.
  18. sounds like they need to dig some snow out in front of the loading zone for the doubles so people stop catching their skis on it. also, aren't you the one who complains about people not sharing the chair with others?
  19. Correlation does not equal causation. I can't speak for your friends' schools specifically, but philly public schools as a whole, from what I have seen first hand, do not have great ventilation. Many do not have AC and occasionally cancel classes if it gets too hot. Regardless of what color their students' skin might be, I think their unions have their backs because the environment they work in is just straight up not safe right now.
  20. i stand corrected. looked again and yes, that is in fact glue. carry on!
