  1. That's the year Atomic and I were born. The mint was cool, they handled out free samples ($0.02). Typing this from the Capitol building, maybe ill do a tour here also before heading up to the mountains. A lot of hippies and pot around.
  2. Going on a tour of the mint in 2 minutes. Always wanted to go and finally have the opportunity. Skiing Winter Park the next 2 days and it's supposed to dump !!!
  3. I'm glad you guys talked me into the SUV. It's supposed to snow mid week (!) and driving around the snow in a compact would have caused me a lot of stress. I went with the Payless reservation you found on Orbitz.
  4. Flying with ski equipment was really easy. I decided on the SUV and got a nearly brand new Subaru Outback with only 1K miles and AWD. Never had heated seats before and didnt figure out how to turn it off yet, so my back starts to get sweaty. This is great!!!
  5. Sorry to hear that Antman. Hope you heal quickly.
  6. Thanks Toast! This will be my 4th time in Colorado and I'll finally be on skis. Kept putting it off so I wouldn't become jaded like you say, but life's too short and like Steeze said in a meme, if I dont do it this year I'll be another year older when I do. I'll be sure to write a report and post a pic or 2.
  7. At KPHL, will be at KDEN in only 6 hours. Thanks to everyone who made it happen. Honorable mentions: Enjorales - lent me ski bag Steeze - provided tireless hours of pro bono ski travel consulting Ridge - recommended Winter Park Toast - recommended putting boots in carry on Atomic - called me a "chode" when I was contemplating backing out (thanks for the encouragement) Jlaw - made the final decision for me yesterday on the Challenge Express after I provided him an executive summary of my debacle ...and many many others
  8. I am sold on this idea. Great suggestion, thanks Ridge. I'll go to Winter Park 2 days, and it might even snow on Wednesday. It would be great to get above the tree line and check out this area, and not worry about falling down a chute or into a crevice or anything (hopefully):
  9. Correct. Best time I had skiing this season. I think it was because I finally got a wax and edge and was actually skiing better than usual.
  10. Lol I'm still here, been skiing nonstop since going back out from the break. Made 20 runs total. The VIP line is amazing today, I never had to wait more than 1-2 minutes and the line for non passholders is the longest I've personally ever seen it. Conditions are still decent; the top of Sidewinder is amazingly good still. The lower half is icy as hell. It appears someone got critically injured at the bottom of Sidewinder. It looked like he couldn't stop at the bottom of Sidewinder and fell down the embankment that goes to Lower Sidewinder (?). Hope he's ok, didnt look good.
  11. Aaah so nice out this morning, but what is this at 8:45? No 4 pack (quad) is such a drag.
  12. Deciding on rental. I can always do something like this (and I'll only have one pair of RTM 81s):
  13. I didnt even read this yet but I already wish there was a Love x 10 button. Way to get after it!
  14. Funny that I started skiing in my late 20s. I intend to keep doing it but sometimes worry I'll quit if I ever break a leg or something.
  15. I'm committed to going to CO. However now it's not going to rain in VT but still be in the mid 45s which probably isn't a big deal. I regret my life choices!
  16. Thanks! Sometimes I read old threads way way before my time for the lolz. This place seems to be a lot calmer (less arguments, flaming etc) than it used to based on what I've read.
  17. I'd probably stay around the I-70 area. But may check out Winter Park or something else. I'd definitely prefer an SUV if I can get a reasonable price.
  18. I drove about 20 miles on snow covered roads in a compact in October, and down the mountain from Echo Lake to Denver. It was fine but nothing was really deep.
  19. Probably wont encounter anything like that since I dont plan to venture off trail, being alone in unfamiliar terrain.
  20. Thanks! I booked a compact car for $148 and will look at hotels later today. Probably Silver Inn. I know you recommended an SUV but I rented a compact from Avis in Denver in October and drove in the snow just fine. Since it's not supposed to snow I think I can get away with not getting an SUV but still might change my mind.
  21. I find this somewhat entertaining. Does Toast design hotel pancake makers?
  22. I tried. Nope. It's nonrefundable and says so right on their website (25% off deal). No big deal, I knew that when I booked. My flight is during the Super Bowl, then I plan to ski Tues to Fri and fly back early Saturday morning. Not sure where I'm going yet, probably Copper and Keystone, wherever is most gaper friendly.
  23. Thanks. I meant for making a $300 nonrefundable reservation and not going. Dont worry, I've spent the last 3 days doing mental gymnastics to cost justify it to myself
  24. Colorado.... yeah yeah I'll get some flak on here for wasting my reservation but once I started looking up stuff about skiing out west, got too excited about it and decided I just want to go and not wait a full year. The flight I got is so cheap it sort of negates the loss from hotel.
  25. Sorry looks like I'm going to Colorado after all. Hopefully next time.
