enjoralas Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Looks like a snowboarder died last night at Camelback. Details from the mountain are sparse, but they say he wasn't wearing a helmet.
Kyle Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Looks like a snowboarder died last night at Camelback. Details from the mountain are sparse, but they say he wasn't wearing a helmet. Article on wnep stated he hit a rock.
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 To be clear, they say he went off the trail and hit a rock
momskeeztoo Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 That's sad. It's so easy to get hurt skiing or riding these conditions. Probably worse at night. Soft and lumpy becomes crunchy and lumpy. Easier to catch an edge I guess.
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) Wow just wow according to our local friend Dennis phone app we hit 83mph today I think more like 70mph but we've all skied for a few decades. Crazy wow. Edited January 27, 2017 by GrilledSteezeSandwich
Shadows Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 Interesting. They drove him to pocono? Sounds like he was pretty much done already then.

Statistically speaking a place like blue or camelback will have one skier or rider death about once every two years based on skier visits. On any given day you have about a one in a million chance of dying on the slopes. You have a way better chance of dying on the drive to and from the mountain.
Ski2Live Live2Ski Posted January 27, 2017 Report Posted January 27, 2017 No doubt. And an even higher chance of dying from leading the kind of sedentary lifestyle where you avoid doing anything that could cause you to fall. 1

Anytime I hear about death it makes me wanna live it up more!!! But not cocaine or heroin that shit will kill u.

momskeeztoo Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Yeah, talk about dying on the way to and from Blue. I have to find a different way. The drive home has been really sketchy on 78. And I'm usually on it by 3 pm. Not exactly what I would call rush hour. See too many people cutting across 2 lanes of traffic to get to their exit. Someone suggested 378 through Bethlehem, west on 22 to Airport Road, then backroads. How long would I be on 22?

momskeeztoo Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Ok. Thanks will try it next week. 1

The exit ramp for 378 become the exit ramp for Airport Rd on 22. On the way home you would have to merge into 22 east for about 1/4 mile before exiting onto 378. That's my route home from work almost every day as I live 2 miles from the airport. During rush hour the ramp does back up some, but those of us exiting to Airport road have taken to tossing on the right blinker to signal that we're exiting and cautiously using the shoulder to keep moving. I'm not sure but I may have started that trend about 7 years ago, lol 2

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted January 28, 2017 Report Posted January 28, 2017 Since when do you even care about Camelback? This isn't about camelback was about a death on the Slopes. I declare this week safety week!!!
momskeeztoo Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Everything gets thread jacked here. Unless it's about Blue, beer or JH. 2

enjoralas Posted January 29, 2017 Author Report Posted January 29, 2017 I started the thread, I can jack it where I want to! Also, it was meta-topical since we were saying that driving to the mountain is more dangerous than skiing, and then talking about ways momskeez can avoid 22 when going to the True, and avoiding 22 is the safest thing you can do on 4 wheels. 1
Shadows Posted January 29, 2017 Report Posted January 29, 2017 Kinda hadd to die when youre going 10mph though
