I have thought about it many times but never pulled the trigger because of the unknown. You win. Are those hush puppies with your fish? Yep, hush puppies are great. And yeah, it's a great mountain but getting out here isn't easy. If I could, I would've stayed on the mountain but no availability. I'm guessing that books up well in advance. There is a small hotel in Mohawk, but it's still probably 25 to 30 minutes to the mountain on a good day. The towns of Houghton and hancock are a little less than an hour on a normal day but it's a more lively place with restaurants and bars 2 1

I'm heading to Houston for a work trip in early spring and I've already been scoping out food menus. Hushpuppies are always a bonus.
indiggio Posted February 21 Report Posted February 21 Gotta be a cool place when they have their own TV channel... 1
Popular Post PSUFrankenstein Posted February 22 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 22 Today was insane...insanely good snow and insane crowds. I got there shortly after 8. Lifts run at 9 30 on weekends but I wanted to get a decent parking spot and get my ticket early. Yesterday was a parking free for all and people parallel parked behind me so I couldn't get my gigantic truck out until the guy next to me left. Drive up was sketchy but better than the drive yesterday evening. They had 31 inches of snow since Wednesday and snowed all day again. I did the run under the chair (wide cut run) to get some powder turns in...then out to outer limits. First tracks in Comet which was incredible. Mostly hit outer limits and far east again. I probably only got 10 runs in by the time I left around 2...lift lines were crazy today. Whenever I come back it'll be a week day. 3 hour ish drive to my neighbors place...drive was OK but I managed to get the truck stuck in the snow bank pulling into her driveway. The rear tires are pretty much bald and the truck slid trying to make a tight turn into the driveway. Hit blackrocks brewery to get some beer and picked up takeout for dinner. 4 5 1
Popular Post PSUFrankenstein Posted February 23 Author Popular Post Report Posted February 23 (edited) Hit Marquette mountain for a couple hours today. Cool place, same lake effect snow Bohemia has been getting. Super windy and still snowing so I mainly stuck to the ungroomed side and glades. The lot was full but no lift lines. The ungroomed side had the same sketchy riblet chair lift as mont ripley Dropped off the rental truck in the afternoon and stopped for pasties. Didn't take a pic but they're popular here...pastry thing with beef and potatoes. Dinner, beers and live music at Kognisjon Bryggeri, a brewery with a small separate restaurant. gonna hit Marquette mountain again tomorrow..my neighbor will drop me off there on her lunch break and pick me up after work. She offered me her SUV and I could drop her at work but getting dropped off to ride a few hours and hit the bar sounds fun to me Edited February 23 by PSUFrankenstein 8 2
PSUFrankenstein Posted February 23 Author Report Posted February 23 (edited) Another incredible powder day at Marquette. Not sure how i managed 5 powder days in a row. Got here 12 30 ish and got second chair when they opened at 1. I could actually see lake superior today which is cool. I did a few glades but most of the regular trails were ungroomed so it was non stop powder runs. Lots of soft bumps, wind lips, and drops. Hitting the bar now and maybe do a few more runs. Cheese curds in the bloody mary...delicious Edited February 23 by PSUFrankenstein 6 2

I figured I'd probably get some good snow at Bohemia and then mess around on icy groomers the rest of the trip. Other than Thursday afternoon driving to Hancock its been snowing the entire time
GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 Is Marquette better than Bohemia. I might visit why not. No worries of altitude sickness and can handle lifts with no safety bars. Heck now I wanna ride the lift in Japan with the pizza box seat. 1

Nah bohemia is still better but ripping down some open runs in powder was great 1
PSUFrankenstein Posted February 24 Author Report Posted February 24 Had a blackrocks pale ale after the last report and did a couple runs before wrapping up for the day. Dinner at the Vierling restaurant and marquette harbor brewery overlooking lake superior. Supposed to fly home tomorrow as long as the flight doesn't get canceled...its been a great trip, I'll be back next winter 4
PSUFrankenstein Posted February 24 Author Report Posted February 24 (edited) More flight delays...flight changed 3 times already. Was 2:40 and the latest update is leaving 6 30 And there's no bar at this airport 😒 Edited February 24 by PSUFrankenstein 1

GrilledSteezeSandwich Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 So looks like flight arrives in Chicago 804 and flight to Philly departs 854 easy peezy and remember if you make your connecting flight your bags probably will unless JFDan and NMSki at least way home but still sucks and extra time at airport which none of us are strangers to. It sucks.
PSUFrankenstein Posted February 25 Author Report Posted February 25 Yep American Airlines not my first time with crazy delays but marquette airport has one shop before security to get a snack or drink and nothing else. All good, it was an awesome trip and great powder days usually result in shitty travel conditions 3
