  1. Started on the quad. TCS, upper Main, and Switch were in good shape. Not sure what they did with lower Main. Ran a groomer without the back cord maker down? Left side wasn’t too bad. TCS was one of the best all year. Razors was spotty. Wonder if those puddles of ice on the bottom head wall was where the weekend gates were that they salted. Lazy was closed for some major blowing.

  2. If you're' bored and feel like reading it hers a post from a few years back: Some years ago I did the XC trails at Greek Peak and had a fun workout so I picked up a cheapo metal edge XC "BC" setup. It was great fun tooling around the local woods and mtb trails – a great mix of my favorite aspects of both skiing and mountain biking. So much fun I upgraded to some epochs with 3 pins/leathers and started taking them along on trips and expanding my terrain, blowing off friends at Stratton to ski Stratton Pond trail etc. There was a lot of highly entertaining XCD energy on the interwebz back then to add to the stoke. I was getting myself in trouble quickly though on the descents with some ass puckering moments so I started taking the XCD setup to the hill to try to get a handle on the turn. The fishscales suck on PA groomed “snow” though so I threw some 3 pins on an old pair of twin tips and got some used 2 -buckle plastic boots to ease the frustration. I started breaking them out every Sunday for a few runs just to up my XCD game. As my skill progressed and started finding “the turn”, I started staying out longer and longer with them. After my hip replacement I try to limit my bump skiing to a few runs on the softest days. With tele found I could attempt to ski low impact bumps and tele-surfing moguls might even be more fun than alpine?! Between Jake and a few others there's a decent tele tribe here at blue and was typically committing to regular Tele Sundays. I still like the power and speed of alpine and don’t think I’ll ever switch full time. I really like the simplicity, freedom and lightness of my current tele touring setup and don’t have any plans on upgrading and will just leave it as two different activities to do on the mountain. Still rockin’ the 3-pins and two buckle boots although considering getting an NTN setup one of these days.

  3. Rode with Atomic this morning, surprisingly big crowd for a Monday though not crowded. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good, they kept blowing last night which is hard to complain about but it did make for a generally hard surface. Eagle eyed Atomic spotted that they had 5 or so puddles on lower razors that was classic blue. Challenge and Side where best though with all the guns on nothing was better than a 5. Good base going and they were going at it hard particularly in the flats.

  4. Pulled the trigger on the Indy add-on. Will be using BC as the local hill with a season pass.

  5. Catamount...pretty fun place, better terrain than Butternut and surprisingly good conditions. The amount of signs around the double black runs is comical. Still some fresh cord at 2 pm. May do a few more runs after a BBQ chicken sandwich and dark and stormy and then back to PA

  6. Sometimes I see tele lessons for never Evers like me and am intrigued. Maybe next winter I will try it. I have watched plenty of YouTube but just don’t feel like I could do any downhill without some instruction. When stuff gets steep-ish on my XC skis I just resort to snowplow or a sloppy snowplow kind of turn. I watch Jared Mannenin on YouTube and his outings look so fun! Also Tom M who I am sure you have seen.

  7. Both days were way better then I would have thought. Good to make turns with everyone, vt had better snow but cheese peeps make for worse company.

  8. Today I’m optimistically thinking maybe just maybe I’ll be able to ski a little bit later this month…my knee being wrapped makes a big difference. Without skiing and minimal sleep until last night, this was by far the longest weekend.

  9. $399 at Montage plus the Indy add-on is an absolute steal.

  10. I'm at Butternut this morning. Pretty fun mountain, 1000' vertical and empty. Not much challenging terrain but the awesome grooming makes up for it. I'll do a few more runs then stopping at Catamount for a bit

  11. After S6, it was about 2 45...decided to hit another community t bar hill. Ascutney. T bar only runs like 450' vertical but you can skin up much higher if you want. Cool terrain, conditions surprisingly not too bad. Got 4 tbar laps in before they closed at 4....now at Treehouse in Deerfield for beers and pizza

  12. Hey all. I'm back from from another fun day at Blue mountain the true mountain. Arrived around 7:20 to guns blasting on the lower mountain. I managed to get first civilian chair and skied challenge while most of the others skied p diz. Conditions overall were decent. Not great but definitely not terrible. A bit slow as lots of the mountain came with a skif of manmade on top. Cold but the sun felt nice today. The parking lot today featured not one but two bald eagles at one point flying next to each other. Nice blue bird morning.

  14. Good they’re blowing gonna be in the 60s next week. It seems like they went quite a long stretch in February with limited or no snowmaking.

  15. They have Tele days up at Blue every so often to introduce people around here into it. Did it once with Tele-Jake, a Blue instructor.

  16. Yeah not sure on the development part, that's what I read too. The terrain above the top of the t bar looked pretty cool but you'd have to skin up on a good snow day. https://www.ascutneyoutdoors.org/our-history/ The lodge (they call it a "discovery center") was completed in 2018, t bar in 2019, so relatively recent. Definitely a cool place to check out. No real challenging terrain off the t bar but fun nonetheless

  17. Day 46. It's spring here. I skied until the slop and crowds were getting excessive.

  18. Today was much better than I thought it would be. Good to see a bunch of the pasrs this weekend. Good to see the guns on as well. Not crowded at all either day.

  21. Back to the hotel in Southern NH, I hung out for a bit and decided to get a brisket sandwich at 603 BBQ in Concord. Some of the best brisket I've had...just on a regular potato roll but I actually prefer that over a thick kaiser roll or whatever. Took my sandwich next door to Lithermans Limited brewing and had a pale ale with my sandwich. Then I hung out at Feathered Friends Brewing, which is a bird themed brewery I guess. Live music, dogs, pretty cool place. Chocolate peanut butter stout was really good, but all the beers were great. interesting artwork in the bathroom, especially the teabagging art. Trying to hit ski areas that I haven't been to, so tomorrow's plan is Pico until early afternoon and then maybe Saskadena Six for a few hours on Indy pass

  23. Day 45. No Name was worth repeating, but is tough to lap. There are a ton of ski clubs here that I wish would leave. They seem to predominately consist of the clueless.

  24. After Bolton, I drove the 15 minutes to Cochrans ski area. Small place with like 350' of vertical but it's a cool non profit place and for 19 bucks, I wanted to check it out. They have a t bar and a rope tow. No lift tickets, just the honor system whether you pay or not. Underprivileged kids pay nothing or whatever they can afford, which is cool. Grooming was actually really good and I had fun. Only complaint was the t bar lifty playing Nickelback repeatedly. Did 6 runs and now at Zero Gravity Brewing in Burlington.

  25. My Ikon said everytime I went through the gates at killy that I had 9 days which makes no sense but going to get up there for the only late double dipper season maybe ever. Between that and the loaf/river you could ski late into the EC season, reggae fest I feel like is always right about the end of EC lift served.

  26. Day 44. The morning web cam showed it was going to be a glorious day and it was. But this is too much "Spring", too early. l

  29. Day 43. The worst fog I've been in, in 25 years, on the Ant Hill today. I couldn't figure out where "down" was to look for the next fog ball. Tried following people, but they rapidly disappeared and I had to wait for another. Fortunately, Flower Point wasn't as bad and there was skiing bliss to be found on its silky snow. If only that lift wasn't so slow!! Mixed in a few chair 5's to break it up, but it's no speed demon, either. Could have skied that stuff all day but the slow lift and dumping graupel finally sapped away any warmth.

  30. Day 42. A real mixed bag. First run was a confidence-destroying slog through windpack, looking for blown-off areas or chopped up stuff. Headed to back and found Saturday-level crowds. Then went over to Chair 2 for mashed potatoes and cottage cheese.

  33. Day 41. Missed a whole week of powder due to the flu. Had a shaky first day back and it's a different season. Went from polar conditions to early spring.

  34. Inspired by the snow squall I did a little Shawnee uphill after work on Indy, goal was two transitions and 1,000 vert, ended up just short at 963’. I don’t think I saw 20 people lol

  35. Drove out for an evening ski session at Boulder. Got to the mountain and the gate was down and there was a sign saying Boulder is closed for the season mid week days. Nothing on their Facebook page, and you had to drill down to their hours of operation page that was apparently updated today. Guess Alterra figures they gave us enough value for our Epic passes.

  36. You and Pops can hang out in the lot. Or at the bar up top, I'll let you use my mug. He fell out in CO and hurt his knee. Urgent care out there said nothing broken nothing torn, but he's going tomorrow to have it checked out.

  38. The last 48 hours since Friday morning has not been great for me. By Friday night lots of swelling above my knee…I walked maybe 50 steps to the lobby to pick up my Uber eats and that was a chore. Sleeping was tough, minor depression and PTSD..Atomic Jeff said I’m dramatic, yeah maybe. Yesterday made an adventure to the vending machine and mustered up the strength to go to the mini market last night for Zyn, pretzels and some drinks…they also sell crutches in Uber eats. Today went to Patient first around 10am…nobody was there, had x rays, doctor thinks it’s some sort of sprain…wrapped up knee, gave me anti inflammatory prescription and I bought crutches…they suggested going to Walmart cause cheaper or borrowing from a friend..nah I didn’t want to hobble around Walmart. I also was taught how to use the crutches, never used them before. So my attitude is better now, trying to be positive, missing skiing sucks but I need to be better for day to day life. I’m supposed to help with deliveries tomorrow..I don’t know.
