  2. One last round of pictures...the last couple from the last night when I stayed by the Denver airport. I ate good on this trip and actually lost 3 pounds..I didn’t drink a lot..I had three drinks three of the nights plus a Bloody Mary and a beer the one day at Coors lights....I drank a ton of water..and after hearing about indiggios issues even had a little Gatorade. This late season trip for me is a fun part of my yearly schedule and some serious relaxation. I only drove a total of 334 miles in Colorado between Denver to Silverthorne and two and from skiing each day and back to Denver. Spent under $40 on gas..on food and drink I was loosely keeping track and was at about $400 for the first 6 days so probably about $500 total not that far off from JH..lift tickets were $420 total lodging was about $600..airfare was about $300..rental car was about $350 and safety supplies were cheap....bye bye ski season

  3. I had 2 Mitsubishi electric Heater/AC/Dehumidifier units installed last week. Should be able to keep the house comfortable if we get another swampy scorcher like last summer. Having the option to run dehumidification only wil prolly do the trick most days.

  4. I use a real camera. I still own a flip phone. I take plenty of pictures over the course of a season, but as we all know, not every picture is a keeper. So the goal is to pick the picture that either embodies the day, is a real stunner, or somehow stands out. The reality on foggy days it's the one that looks like something, anything. 😰😇😱👿🤓🤓😠😝😧.... Hmm, emoji window came up, never got populated with anything, Chrome froze, now I've got all these stupid emojis and can't delete them?..... You've got a bug here. The pictures posted above have been pulled from Facebook, which does a lot of processing, downloaded to an Android tablet, and reloaded here, so they've suffered a bit. Siblet's pic was probably taken with an iPhone. It was taken by a skiing companion, certainly not by me.

  5. Today was a day that could make you question ever wanting to go to a resort again. The weather, scenery and snow conditions were fantastic! We left Boulder at 7 and had lots of rain and fog until we were about 30 miles from our exit. Then the sky cleared up nicely. We couldn’t believe how lucky we were! Forecast was calling for snow above 10,000’ and our TH started at 11,000 so we fully expected clouds. I had Mayflower Gulch in my radar for a while, just for a hike or snowshoe. There is a super mellow downhill area up there that I wanted to let Shannon try so she could practice. Once the trail opens up you come across some old miners cabins. One of the peaks is Fletcher, which I hiked last summer from the other side. We spent a lot of time chilling at the cabin site. There was no wind and the weather was warm. The picture everyone takes from this hike. There were also several birds hanging around that have obviously been well fed. We did not feed them, but Shannon put her hand out and they kept swooping in. We headed to the right up the little “bump” that is Gold Hill. Couldn’t go all the way to the top because there was the mother of all cornices up there. Looked far more impressive in person. Had a nice easy ski down back to the car. 50 degrees when we reached the car. Then a bacon cheese burger down in Idaho Springs. A top 10 Colorado day for me! Raining and fog again the further east we went. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  10. I have resisted the home a/c thus far, even though the humidity NMSKI spoke of played havoc with my hair.

  11. I'm a "no heat november" guy, but when it gets humid I gotta put on the AC. My body was built for the high desert climate. On Friday night I was dying and I ran it for about 45 minutes to cut the humidity and temperature a bit.

  12. Since my friends started running Camelback I've been interested in the Poconos again. Also my nephew and niece ride Blue a lot.. And I'm still schilling for Hunter. My house has increased in value since the new terrain was built and people are actually driving through the village. Thinking of some business opportunities so I can quit the corporate world and start my next phase in life.

  13. I felt like I got a good workout in Saturday and Sunday at Abasin because I parked in the overflow lot and had to walk 1/4 mile instead of 100 yards lol. Keep posting pictures and reports!!!!

  16. I'm thinking Big Face. That gets some cupping due to wind, but the really dangerous tree wells, that appear to be solid snow right up to the trunk, appear in truly treed areas. The snow surrounding the tree might appear level, but it's not consolidated, so it's this invisible pit where snow keeps cascading down on you the more you struggle. There's a lot of these areas on the back, around Evan's, and off Bigfoot T-Bar. Those areas don't get so wind blasted so the snow stays fluffy and loose. Great skiing until...

  18. Sorry Sib, I can't remember the trail name. It was on the front side fairly steep and moguled with a smattering of trees. The main problem Big Al encountered was getting his remaining ski released. At 69 years old he's not as supple as he once was... I'll say again, of 35 trips out west, we really had one the best times ever on your mountain and in Whitefish. Just sorry we didn't share a beer together...

  19. Because it was so cold this season, we had a lot of clear days. (You're lucky I didn't post all 63 pictures.)

  20. Actually, I don't have heated boots, but they are toasty when I put them on my feet. Also, wind chill is not actual temperature. As long as no skin is exposed, you're fine. There was only one day this year when my feet felt sort of cold (it had been warm and sunny the day before and this day was cloudy, and I'd dressed for the prior day), and I never lost feeling in my toes. It's a matter of layers. They will shut down the lifts here before it's too cold for me. I do use a double face mask, I do wear two layers of long underwear, I do have a down layer as well. It also makes a difference where you ski. If you're riding a lift with wind in your face the whole ride up, you might get cold. But there are always lifts in some direction that are less windy. The very worst lifts for lack of protection from the wind are 1 and 5. Both can be brutal!!! Especially as they come up over the final rise. Finally, where and what you are skiing can either cool you or warm you. Cruising the blues at Warp 9 will make you cold. Working hard in bumps, trees, powder, etc. will heat you up. You learn all these things when you ski up here. We normally have about 10 days to 2 weeks of super frigid temperatures. This year it was more like five weeks. I skied plenty of days where the Summit temperature (not the wind chill) was -14. Good times. I prefer those days because no one is here and the super cold air makes Glacier seem super close and we get that diamond dust sparkling in the air. By the way, there's projects in the works to expand lift-served terrain: https://us1.campaign-archive.com/?u=8bfee85ec43c6496c2d381e3f&id=a048d110be

  23. Day 5: Partial sun and warm 22° when we started our last day. Another 1" or 2" overnight. Conditions again are excellent. Sure is nice being able to see. The weekend crowd was evident in slightly more lift lines and somewhat more crowded trails. 9 runs then off to have a cup of soup and a couple of beers at The Hellroaring Saloon then caught the bus to town. Dinner at the Buffalo Cafe. Great Burgers. Whitefish has everything. A nice mountain with tons of varied terrain for all abilities. Not huge but big enough. Great Restaurants, a Microbrewery, a genuine fantastic Dive Bar and great locals. And all at very reasonable prices. I can see why Sibhusky moved here! If you get the chance, you will be impressed too... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  26. Day 2: started two hours earlier and we were at the top of the mountain at 10:00 with a temp of 10°-- and bright sunshine no wind. Pretty similar to the first day. Exploring and learning more of the trails. We skied out the back side of the mtn most of the day, then had a late bowl of chili at the on mountain Hellroaring Saloon and Eatery. The original 1949 lodge. Clouds began forming by the afternoon and light snow was predicted. Back to Whitefish and a great Italian meal at Ciao Mahmbo for dinner. Shrimp fra diavlo... Day 3: Wow a heatwave, 22° but breezier and fully overcast. 2-3" of fresh snow made skiing real nice. Again did most of our skiing on the backside and ended the day again at the Hellroaring. Tonight's meal was at the Tupelo Cafe. Buffalo meat loaf, garlic mash etc.. Day 4: 27° and snowing! Our breakfast stop was crowded so we caught the 9:40 bus and found about 6" of fresh with snow still falling. Unfortunately the famous Whitefish Fog was making its presence known. We made the mistake of taking the high speed to the top ist lift. It was so foggy you couldn't see your ski boots. Truly Socked In!! Two braille runs then decided to go back to the base and ski the lower lifts. On the way back down, Big Al found a tree well. Fortunately the trail we were on was so steep that he ended up on the downhill side and wasn't buried. He lost one ski and his poles before entry and had a terrible time freeing himself of his remaining ski and extricating himself. We were below him and had a hell of a time working our way uphill to help. 10 minutes later Al was back in his skis and us Old Phartz were beat. That was it and after getting to the base we called it. By that time the sun broke out on the bottom of the mtn but the top was still socked in. Just another experience we'll talk about for the rest of our lives.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
