Finally some snow. Hope you guys can make it over the pass into Steamboat.

 

... WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM MST WEDNESDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DENVER HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW... WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 PM MST WEDNESDAY.

* TIMING... SNOW WILL INCREASE THIS EVENING AND WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES LATE TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 8 TO 16 INCHES WITH LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE ON WEST FACING SLOPES.

* WIND/VISIBILITY... WEST 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH. VISIBILITIES WILL BE REDUCED TO ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES OVER THE HIGHER PASSES.

* IMPACTS... MOUNTAIN ROADS AND PASSES WILL BECOME SNOWPACKED AND ICY. STRONG GUSTY WINDS OVER EXPOSED RIDGES AND ABOVE TIMBERLINE WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY DIFFICULT OVER THE HIGHER PASSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. ONLY TRAVEL IN AN EMERGENCY. IF YOU MUST TRAVEL... KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

best of luck. If I can offer a word of wisdom for navigating sketchy mountain passes in a snow storm in a vehicle you're not familiar with, drive slower than you're normally comfortable with. You'll still get where you need to go. Not totally knowing how a car's AWD system is going to react if/when it slips is the worst to me.
