  3. Great Eastern is probably the best trail on the EC, when it's empty it's 3k vert of just super fun arc arc arc ok now lets look around and back to arc arc arc. Lots of skiing tips and shit (btw learn how to put your boots on or buy a WC horn because nothing says I don't know what the fuck I'm doing like some random dude grunting like he's an 90lb asian women pushing shaq's baby out) but nobody asked you the most important question. Are you fucking feeling this shit man ? Lets get real, your a great skier for only skiing two years but in the overall sense you ski like shit. Now that's cool because you've only been doing it two years but before you left you had lost your mojo no ? No emotion, no zest and you'll be the worst skier of all time which is one that lacks passion. Do you feel the passion ? When you stood up top at K1 and you clicked in were you half way to midnight ? When you got to the bottom of gondolier, before you tried to ski into the gondy did you want to ask the cute waitress if you she ever got the Cleveland steamer from a rural PA state worker at the Mansfield Inn ? You should have because that means you got the passion, lots of peeps will spend their lives on X&O's taking lessons and get no where because they lack the passion to giv'r. You took risks when you went glades but you jerry'd right out of it by taking the skis off. Your a young man to be wound so tight, slip it, step it, shit ride your poles like amateur night at Delilahs but keep the skis on and figure out a way down. You learn alot of shit fucking around in EC woods. If you found your passion back then this was a successful trip.................................... plus get another pair of skis if you want to run untracked in the woods, can't catch a 500lb tuna on a mickey fishing rod with a bobber.

  9. You weren't at Blue when Beau was in charge of traffic control for the six pack. He was a legend and his short pole and ability to count to 6 in multiple combinations made him great at his job. You six come on out..5 and one..4 and two singles..4 and 2..3 and 3...3,2,1..2,2,2 and my favorite 6 singles..I even ate one of his famous Jell-O shots a few years ago at the end of season party and didn't trip balls 🏀

  11. Snow is a 3d environment so the difference between skis is a shape designed for that 3d environment plus what you specifically want to do with the ski. Camber is simple, your rtms are designed for hard snow where you want to press the shovel into the snow to carve a turn so the center of the ski is higher then the tips and tails. If you took your RTM's into deep snow you could in fact absolutely ski, however the positive camber will sink the tips which for obviously reasons meant you had to ride deep heavier snow in the back seat. Thus a smart person figured why not simply reverse the camber, instead of producing a tip diving pressure we could float the tip. Instead of the center of the ski being higher, the tips and tails are. It isn't actually that simple anymore as they all have varying mixes of camber profiles but I think you get the point. Camber and width keep you up floating, producing a ski that is easy to turn, slash and smear in deep snow. GSSucks is right on about what type of ski your looking for as to specific model I'd base that on what you want as a skier. They make alot of skis that are " 100-110 under foot range with a bit if rocker and some camber under foot" and they are each companies take on what that type of ski can be. Some stiffer, some softer, range of radii almost all are excellent powder tools but what separates them I think is how they are getting back to the lift. Do you want a ski that can get mach looney and be comfortable but your going to have to take a stiffer pow ski which comes with other downsides or do you want a more playful, softer ski. (the difference between say a Belafonte and PBJ) That part is up to you as only you know what type of skier you are, demo's are fucking gold because you can ride a wide range of similar skis across companies and figure out based on various build criteria exactly what it is you want in a ski.

  12. Figure out what the snow is like before buying, Sierra cement (going to need some stiffness) or Utah blower pow and meadow skipping (a bit softer is a good thing), that is going to make a difference. For waste width, Id shoot for 100-110 under foot range with a bit if rocker and some camber under foot and you're golden out west. Remember, even on the deepest days you're going to need to get back to the lift on some kind of run out so you need a ski that still turns on groomers.

  13. Take some notes on how to carry your skis, I prefer the Texas suitcase if you have straps on your poles its perfect.

  14. There's no reason to have the shit on Dreamweaver, that's yet another BMR demand who we all know run Blue. BMR is slowly taking control of all the slopes, they're like little kids. Whenever anyone wants something, they scream "Mine!", use it for a day, then wait for the next complaint. Why they bothered to put bumps on Challenge at this time is anyone's guess, since they now bumped up Chute, there's plenty for all levels. The sun angle is still too low in February and they get boilered out fast and the lower part is still in the shade practically the entire day. They should have left Challenge alone until the end of February when crowds begin to thin out. Hell! We want them to bump up Race...er, Widowmaker so there's a run all the way down and into Chute, but BMR won't give up that run either. Mine!! They really should have done away with Nightmare bumps as well and put some in the proper place (afternoon sun) on Sidewinder. Although that run does get nice in the afternoons now, it's just way too short to be that much fun. Sidewinder is plenty wide enough to accommodate a few lines of bumps and loads of people concurrently. They could have at least tried it to gauge the level of acceptance, now that it's no longer a full on park. If you really don't like it Jeff, get on Blue's FB page and bitch about Challenge and tell them to instead bump up Sidewinder where there's afternoon sun. I'll have your back on it!

  17. I'll start with the positive. The conditions were very close to my favorite. Rock solid. Paradise was the ROTD for me. Super fast and scraped off. What am I'm really annoyed about? That Blue has now either closed or put stupid shit on most of the good runs. Razors? Closed for all 6 people in the Thursday night race clinic. Dreamweaver? Holy shit I came cranking down Nightmare only to be shocked by the roller coaster berms on Dreamweaver. Unskiiable. Challenge? Less than half width due to Bumps. Nightmare? Half width with bumps. WTF Blue. That leaves Sidewinder, Main Street (which....has bumps) and Switchback. I was kinda hoping I got stopped on Paradise because I was going to unleash on someone.

  23. Dare i say bacons? From what I can tell, you're not really very heavy, and you're not super aggressive. The bacons got a tiny bit narrower than they used to be, with a slightly more all mountain friendly shape/sidecut than they used to have. They're still pretty soft, but unless you're in the sierras or PNW, the softer flex would probably work pretty well for what you're looking for, hypothetically. They rip turns as long as you're not trying to mach through chopped up leftovers (soul riders would be better for that stuff), and are super playful and easy to ski in pretty much any condition. But yeah, try before you buy, if that's your thing.

  27. Killington is a much better mountain for Jerrys than Stowe..next time at Stowe start at the gondola and no hills to walk up. You can park right by the gondola barn. For those of you you unfamiliar with Stowe this is the steep hill Salty had to walk up from the parking lot.

  34. Thats a decent quiver anywhere really. Those nordicas will prob be your everyday ski out there. No sense in buying new skis till you get out there and see whats up. You dont seem like you charge too hard to warrant a 1000$ super serious pow sticks; no offense. like jlaw said in my thread. Its all bullshit. Pick your specs and choose a ski.

  41. Pretty rad here. Made 5 runs on a different blue each time and making my way across the mountain. Started at Ramshead, did a warm up run on the Blue run, then did the green run to see where Treezy is. Then tried getting to gondola via Caper but forgot about the stupid uphill segment so took Snowdon double and did a blue to Snowdon triple then made a nice fun run down to gondola. About 300 people in line, will ask for a gift card. Its crowded and feels like a weekend with jerrys everywhere but the place is so yuge I should be able to find some lifts and trails that aren't crowded. No one seems to be riding the slow lifts, at least not yet. Taking 5 at K1 top lodge and then will make a run down my favorite cruiser Great Eastern.

  48. The snow you encountered was most likely https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graupel which has a weird consistency. We sometimes get it at Blue during a conversion from snow to rain. You don't need a down day for the hot springs, just check the weather for a clear night and make plans to get a bus ride or drive up early evening after early dinner. The number of stars you'll see out there will blow your mind.

  49. Day THREE: Second Ski Day, or "Ever skied on Dippin' Dots?" Woke up for our second ski day and our suitemates weren't planning on heading out until a bit later because my co-worker was dealing with some shin blisters due to a misaligned boot the day before. Our goal was to hit the Sundown lift right around the time it opened at 9 am, and we were able to accomplish that within 5 or 10 minutes. The mountain reported about 4 inches overnight, but we ended up finding spots of about 6 inch deep or so. It ended up being a pretty short day due, at least run wise. Our problem was making a strategic mistake and heading to the Sunshine area because we really wanted to check out that terrain, despite the fact that this is the area where they offer first tracks. We probably should have headed over the backside to the Morningside area or something first thing. At any rate, we took the gondola up and repeated the previous days ski down Spur Run (without the aggro snowboarder) and hit the Sundown lift. Took it up and as we neared the summit the wind was howling, visibility was ridiculously poor, and it was snowing a weird sort of pellet snow that looked like Dippin Dots. It definitely wasn't ice pellets, but it held together like it was. It didn't really affect the skiing all that much, but it hurt a bit when it hit the part of the face not covered. We headed down a very crowded Tomahawk and it was very difficult to see beyond 20-30 yard or so. We made it down without any real trouble, and pulled up before the end and elected to cut down Ramrod because it didn't look like too many people had been that way yet. It was a great decision and we had an awesome run down that. Not a ton of powder, found a bit on the edges, but not all tore up and visibility was nice because we had give up a couple hundred feet of vert. Right at the end of the run, after I had pulled up at the lift, I looked up in time to catch Pops going down in what I call a no-fault collision where another skier and he came together in each other's blind spots, but he swears he got run into from behind. Either way, he was generally okay but would stiffen up later. We took the Sunshine lift back to the top and on the way up we decided that a trip down the Sunshine Lift line trail looked like it would be fun, and identifies some trees skier's left that we thought we'd like to check out. As we approached the top it was still socked in, if anything things were worse. We turned the wrong way off the lift, and ended up unable to get to High Noon which would lead into the lift line, instead funneling onto Tomahawk again although this time we stayed left and started down Quickdraw. We decided to see if we could play around in the woods skier's right and see if we could make it over to where we had intended to go. We had some fun in there, nothing anyone else here would really think was anything interesting but it was a nice change from straight groomers for us. We came across some signs for the "Olympian Trail" which I'd like to check out more thoroughly on a better vis day. We noodled about in the trees there for a bit, and did indeed pop out on the lift line. We skied that back down popping into and out of the trees a few times as we went, again, not doing anything crazy. Man, it was fun, but it was much more tiring than just heading down a piste. We decided to take the South Peak lift up to the Rendezvous lodge and get some water and rest the legs for 15 minutes or so. We headed back out and skied Spike down to the Sunshine again. Back up top we debated whether we wanted to make another run in the sunshine area, but instead opted to ski along the ridge for a bit and drop down into the Morningside area on Cowboy Coffee. We had a fun run down that with some mild tree skiing as well. We hit the Morningside lift and decided we would work our way back down to base, stopping for lunch along the way. I had my first fall of the trip (of the year, i think) although I'm not really counting it, lol. We were standing in the scrub on the side of Buddy's Run gesturing with my ski pole and discussing what line to take when I shifted my weight and sunk into the powder and before I knew it I was laying on the ground laughing. So my first fall was while I was standing still. We skied down Buddy's Run cutting off onto Calf Roper so we could hit the Four Points lodge. We wanted to eat here (my dad spotted a pot pie that he was really coveting) but after like 10 minutes without finding a spot to sit, I insisted on bailing. My legs were getting totally cooked, and I wanted a seat. We headed back out and down Rainbow, and when we realized we couldn't make it back to the Thunderhead lodge from there we skied down Vagabond and took the Thunderhead lift back up to the lodge. By halfway down the run I was absolutely done and ready to be off the skis. Originally we were thinking about going back for a rest and then coming out for an afternoon session, and so we probably should have just kept going to the bottom but wanted to eat up there and knew we could download on the gondi so we headed back up. We went up to the third floor and got lunch. We both got Pho, my dad got chicken broth with chicken and I got curry broth with curried chicken. It was delicious, but I was a little too heavy handed with the Thai chilis when I added them after and went through about three bottles of water with my soup. Right after we sat down we were joined by Ed and Kim, our suitemates, and we all ate together. With their late start our companions had planned to head back out, but a complete whiteout had moved in fog-wise, to where we couldn't see the peak OR the base from the gondi station, so we all decided to download on the gondola and live to ski another day. Spent some time soaking sore muscles in the hot tub, while Ed and Kim made some salmon and baked potatoes for dinner. After dinner went out for another round. We have a premium location on our condo, 2nd floor but that means it's walk in from the ski valet, and the hot tubs are right in front of our unit and down half a flight. The whole complex is about a 1500 foot walk to the gondola entrance. Headed to bed with plans to take the day of on Tuesday, unless I woke up at 730 to find that we had been dumped on. That didn't happen, so went back to bed and slept until 9 am. Did nothing all day today but lounge around the condo and rest up to hit the hill in the morning.
