  4. Got home from a fun Super Bowl night. Bumps everywhere, super soft- it was a fun but leg burning night. A bit more crowded than last years super bowl might but still skied right onto the lift. Nightmare dream and razors were most excellent.

  5. It’s been a tough year on the snow so far. Lots going on personally, and I’ve been dealing with a nagging injury that finally de-compensated and required PT. We had some water damage this summer to our place in VT that I had to come address, and the leg was feeling better, so I decided to get out on the snow a little while I was here. We split the drive over 2 days, so we didn’t get into Sugarbush yesterday until around 3 PM. It’s been 6 weeks since I rode last and I hadn’t tested the leg, so I figured getting out on snow for a few runs on the lower mountain would be a good test. I pulled a Joey move and threw the snow pants on over the jeans, went with the old PLB, and got on the Village Lift at about 3:15. It was the end of the day so most of the crowds had dispersed. 42 degrees at the base and an early corn harvest. I did one run each of the “distinct” runs off the Village lift for 3 runs total. The leg felt pretty good overall. It was good to be back out. The goal is to get out today after lunch for a couple hours and at least get to mid mountain for a few runs. Here’s some pics:

  8. I’m looking at the temperatures and the timing and this is gonna be some wet freaking snow..I’m not hating snow is snow and this will be good for the base if it happens. Coldest temperature I see is 27 at mount pocono very early tomorrow AM won’t get much or at all below freezing in the Lehigh valley probably around 29-31 at Blue…so a temperature adjustment of a degree or two in either direction could mean more rain or barely accumulating Snain and snow. The forecast I trust the most has an inch to a few inches falling by morning and 5-10 inches during the morning to early afternoon from south to north. As of now the dewpoints are really bad…there will be hours of Virga but this could be a thumper…short duration heavy precipitation..

  10. i asked them if the lifts were going to work tomorrow, or if there was going to be a repeat of 1-7-2024.

  11. I'm not expecting powder. Just soft conditions. I'm imaging a dense snow that holds up, but maybe that's a pipe dream, and everything is skied out and scraped off in a few hours.

  12. I had some work to do in the morning, but the leg felt pretty good after yesterday, so I decided to stick to the plan and do a couple lower mountain runs followed by some mid mountain runs to ease back into it. I got out on snow about 1 today and went about an hour and a half to 2 hours on 7 runs. Mostly went off of Bravo and Gatehouse lifts. Only 7 degrees colder today than yesterday, but a huge difference in snow consistency. Yesterday was corn and today was more sugary. There were plenty of sugar piles and icy spots to be had, but for not having any natural snow in a week plus, I thought the conditions were standard for February in New England. There was a good crowd for a Monday. Trails of the day surprisingly were Downspout/Domino Chute and Valley House Traverse. The traverse, while relatively flat, was pitched well with snowmaking this year and wasn’t skied off due to the pitch. I stopped in the middle of it and still made it across with plenty of speed. Quite an enjoyable little section with a great view. All in all, a great day, and tomorrow I’ll try to make it to the top and test the leg out on some t2b runs. I guess I’ll stick with the PT and home PT. It’s made a huge difference so far. Pics below:

  13. If Blue had a hotel, I could stay there tonight and still miss first chair cause my gate won’t open or the lifts have ice on the cables lol.. This storm could be a humdinger. I feel like Jim Cantore might be heading to Allentown and maybe the poconos because I saw thunder snow in the forecast. That’s beat the band 3”+ an hour rates..also has high bust potential but a bust for this prob be 2-4” which is what we thought all along.

  14. Second call. I don’t see Saturday or Tuesday precip in the forecast. I’m wondering with the pattern change are the models going to have issues. Seems like this storm forecast was schizophrenic.

  15. Hey all, I’m back from another fun morning at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 720am and it was in the low 40s under overcast sky’s. In the house was everybody who was there yesterday except Dirtwolf, Justo and Rose but KevinThomas, Nancy, Schif, Matt Edge, Falco and Shopey1080 were there. First civilian OG six pack to challenge which was firm, Paradise was a lot better as was lazy mile. Coming soon had similar firm conditions just like challenge. Crowds were super light with no lift lines. The snow got more edgeable on lazy mile and became full on spring snow on lazy. I didn’t think the snow was quite as spring like as yesterday…id say conditions were ok..a couple more skeet spots. It will be nice if we receive some snow this week. Fun parking lot and a sausage Sunday, I enjoyed a breakfast Sando, slider burgers, sausage and steak. JADIP!!

  16. Today was the emptiest day at Blue that I've seen this season. IDK whether it's because of the Super Bowl hangover, or because everybody was prepping to hit the slopes tomorrow.

  17. Code red warning!!! It’s never snowed here before ? I had a customer cancel a afternoon appointment today because she was worried about getting home to Jersey before the storm. I told her it’s not supposed to start till later tonight. 🫤

  22. I think night skiing will be busy but don’t expect powder conditions as the snow is supposed to wrap up around Noon. If you want Pow, gotta ski the morning, night will be push piles and slick swaths of ice

  25. It could have been enjos cooking but I thought today was better than yesterday as well. NMDW was most excellent and challenge after the first headwall was very good, Widow and le chute were soft almost from the start and held excellent turns. It was a little too uneven in places to really fly but a super nice way to spend super bowl Sunday.

  26. Whew, just finished up a hut based AIARE 2 course ( the last in the series). I learned so much and all the snow science is really fascinating. Prior to this course I only used the CAIC website as a resource. I realize now that there are so many factors to look at and consider. I also have learned that there are ways to mitigate exposure even on higher avalanche days. Red Mountain Pass was closed for about 40 hours from the storm. So the first day we did companion rescue practice in a meadow behind the town of Silverton. At a certain point in the beacon rescue you have to get out of your skis. Postholing to mid thigh every rescue was really exhausting. We were finally able to get up to the hut that evening. Day 2 was a light tour and mostly digging pits. Day 3 was definitley a “full value” day. We toured into US Basin. The weather was sort of sunny to start then got stormy. We observed some remote triggered smaller avalanches from a distance. We mapped out a tour plan from Cal Topo and set a track in virgin snow to get there. Roughly 100cm. The ski down was very fun. Had to transition to skins at the end which is always somewhat annoying. today was a day of just fun touring as we officially met the requirements of the class yesterday and requested to just take off. We are both dead tired. High altitude sleeping, bad eating due to low appetite poor sleep and I have had enough. Currently at Ouray brewery waiting for my giant burger.

  29. Just got back from an afternoon sesh at Blue The True. Place was empty, Main was pretty chopped up as was Lazy. Freefall and NMDW were the better options for some turns. Spring like but no puddles to be seen. Forecast keeps improving and the stoke levels are rising for tomorrow.... Ski ya'll in the morning!!

  31. My niece was sick at the super bowl get together and now my brain feels like it's trying to escape out of my ears. I'll see how I feel in the morning but that should guarantee a good storm.

  32. Forgot to mention the parking situation. Plow trucks didn’t really plow the area. All 12 of us had to dig out some spots, took a while. Then we had to park like Tetris so we all fit. One girl got pretty stuck and 4 of us had to push her out. Morning of departure I got really stuck as someone not w our group pulled in and left me very little space to get out. I cut it too hard and dug my wheel into a snow bank. Luckily a snowmobiling bro was kind enough to pull me out w a tow strap. jammed in parking and one dead battery.
