Get on some wide skis and go fast and use a lot of power in your turns and you should be just fine getting through the mashed potatoes..in a typical warmer ski season you're gonna encounter spring conditions a lot so might as well work on your mashed potato skiing. Get forward and power through them.

I often travel alone, too. My husband doesn't really like to ski, and if he goes, makes 3 runs and wants to go in. So my ski trips are solo. Maybe I'll join Upper Bucks Ski Club. I joined Flying Dutchman for couple years. It seemed a lot of their trips involved a wine tour or brewery side trip. I'm not interested, I just wanted to go skiing.

I love when it's 20 degrees cooler than normal and my Facebook friends bitch that it's freezing. Today is a gift..so what if it's raining..as long as it's not raining men although ILikeIceCream would like that lol funny but true

When and where is karaoke? (Couldn't send a PM--system said no dice.)

Callaghans allentown Wednesday nights. I arrive around 1115pm doesn't start till around 1030pm goes till 2. There's no karaoke this week as the bar is closed during musikfest.

I think it's funny (translate pathetic) that people complain about the weather on Facebook. Especially beautiful weather. They must act like the apocalypse has arrived when the Temps fall below freezing.

Below freezing no below 70. You should see the battle I have over air conditioning with office manager. When she was on vacation it was set at 72. I've noticed it's crept up to 76 and she still wears a sweatshirt in the office and anytime it kicks on you'd think she just took the ice bath challenge.

QBO or Quasi-Biennial Oscillation is looking good for winter in that its continuing its easterly phase.

 

This gets nerdy but the QBO is sort of the first indicator of jet stream performance. The QBO is high level winds at the equator that change direction every 14 months or so, when they are in the easterly direction it weakens the jet stream, now the jet stream is fucked in general because of climate change but a weaker jet stream is better for winter storms and leads to a potential Polar Vortex.

 

If you remember two or three years back we had a dope winter were it was under freezing for like two months straight with some redic cold mixed in, this is because of sudden warming in the stratosphere which in turn causes the arctic oscillation to wobble. We experience this wobble as super super cold air rushing into the NE, the news simplify this as the Polar Vortex. A weak jet stream both encourages sudden stratospheric warming and allows for that air to reach us.

 

Imagine the jet stream like a fence that is also a seesaw, if it's strong that cold air won't get to us unless there is wicked troughing in the west which dips the jet stream in the east because it's riding high in the west.

 

This is obviously better for the NE than say Utah but Utah is dope regardless.

 

CFS is showing big easterlies with a big temp dip in late fall and cold august's are usually better winters, the big question is the ocean.

 

The oceans are really fucking weird right now, temp anomalies are all over the place, southern pacific is way warmer while sub surface northern pacific is colder. Nobody really knows what this means except that we are likely in a nina winter or neutral ENSO winter in English it appears as if the oceans will be cooler too.

 

This is all very positive and aligns with my general theory of boom bust due to the energy cycles in climate change but who the fuck knows it's weather after all.

 

EDIT: I totally forgot but we've seen some really wicked lows across the planet, atmospheric rivers with massive lows this is terrible long term but would make for epic nor easters...........

I always ask myself why I don't know of any weather people that are rich because of their weather knowledge. You got rich weather persons but that's because they look good on tv. Now if a weather dude really knew what was going to happen they could get way way richer fucking around with say orange juice futures than reporting on the weather but we don't have any of those types because they weather at the end of the day is completely fucking impossible, particularly now when everything is so weird.

 

Our odds this year look good but it could also be 50 and rain all winter, humans just aren't smart enough at this point to do anything more than give odds.

There's weather guys that consult for weather related investments. Somebody's making some coin off it. It's all a big casino. One thing I know for certain.................

Very true.  Sun will rise, sun will set.  this is about the only given with the weather.  I look at 4 different forecasts daily.  3 use different models, the other one is kind of a blend.  when all three of them say the same thing, pretty good odds thats what will happen that day.  When they all say something different, just flip a coin.

Haha. I remember getting excited about the ski magazines with the new gear. It just made the season seem that much closer. I'm glad it's not ski season yet. My wrist should be completely healed by then. I was worried it would be more prone to breaking if I fell skiing this year, ortho assured me it would not.
