Best opening day I’ve had. Fantastic. Ungroomed on the sides from the storm. The groomed stuff is great. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk9 points

Today was the best opening day I’ve ever had. Rolled in at about 12:20, got my peak pass in about 5 minutes flat and was suited and booted by 12:50. Saw @toast21602 in the lot and we ended up waiting for 2nd chair, and essentially the first riders down this season...in PA. Between Little Boulder and Freedom park we did 11-12 runs between 1 and 245 with a quick break in there. No lift lines longer than 2 minutes except the last run on freedom at 230, although we expected it. The conditions; fantastic. Couldn’t ask for better cord with ungroomed perder on riders right (highlight of my day). I believe toast counted 18 jibs on freedom. Pretty freaking legit, but not too surprising knowing Boulder. All in all it was an awesome day and a fun day with another PASRer.4 points

So... answered the question... can I ski on property... YES! Went out today and tested my two "trails." The long one running down the side of my property is about 350 feet.... While it will be perfect for my 3 year old... all of this fresh powder was tough to ski and was sinking in, tougher to build up speed... perhaps if packed would be great... The shorter but steeper one was actually pretty cool.... from the top of the septic drain field, through the narrow part between my "trees" and the side of the house, down to the street. https://imgur.com/a/NpYCvW9 https://imgur.com/a/cNfHVUh https://imgur.com/a/gfQE7E84 points

According to skicamelback.com, the new trail, Scarab, enables access from the West to the East side, and connects the two HSQs. It's also one of the most aesthetically pleasing trails as it faces the entire Pocono Mountain and Catskill Mountain ranges, as far as you can see. I presume it connects the top of Sullivan HSQ (West) to the bottom of Stevenson HSQ (East), but you can already move between these two points various ways using existing trails. It's mind boggling predicting where Scarab will be - is it going to create hazardous intersections through multiple trails? Or is it going to be a tiny 100-200 foot connector as predicted in RED below?? Can't wait to find out!! Do any of PASR's Camelback subject matter experts (SMEs) have any thoughts?2 points

Either Brian Westbrook is shredding the gnar, or today is the first PASR day of the year as well.2 points

One thing about a place like steamboat springs is that most of the snow falls overnight and it’s mainly light and dry pow and their typical storm is only snow. There’s also only a small number of residents and tourists in the tens of thousands at most. We have people driving Neons with bald tires that were living in Puerto Rico a year ago. We have people with brand new dodge chargers that floor it in the snow and tailgate. Plus our average snowstorm starts as snow and changes to sleet and freezing rain.2 points

looking forward to checking out your sweet ski moves on the web cam.2 points

I think people are replacing just good old fashioned american snow driving skills for an AWD vehicle. Arent bright enough to drive in the snow? buy an SUV. My first car was a 76 Nova. put snow tires on it, and it always got me where i needed to go in it. Just wasnt stupid about it. We have all passed an SUV in the ditch. how did it get there? Just like any other vehicle, it slid there. Engage AWD, disengage brain. More people should buy chains, or straps too. chains are awesome.2 points

I'm blaming at least part of all the issues on the fact that thousands of people freaked out and all left work early which jammed up the roads. I stayed until 530 and got home faster than I normally do.2 points

Obviously. Had to go out and get the driveway cleared so I can ski in a few hours. YOLO!2 points

I ended up driving through 6 parking lots, using them as short cuts to other roads, had to use back roads...like neighborhood roads. but still got jammed up a little with people stuck on little hills, people sliding down shit into ditches. At one point when i was stopped, there was a range rover in front of me. Once we started moving again hid slid dead sideways into a sign, and sort of getting sucked into a ditch. He just hit the go pedal to get out and ran the sign post down the whole side of his car. Is it me, or is all of this just getting worse? I guess part of this is getting more snow than predicted. But i feel like most people are making poor choices by venturing out in the snow with their honda. Lots of people are just blaming Penndot, like there is some magical way they can clear the roads with cars all piled up on them.2 points

IMO The gondola did wonders for the place. The mountain is still flat at the bottom obviously but you can ski a legit 1400 vert now by doing laps off of the gondola whereas before you had to ride that slow beginner lift, then another to get to the top. Wasn't worth it. Gondi fixed that.2 points

Just another day for them. Around here its the end of the fucking world and Penn Dot is the problem in their eyes. One time i saw some stats on Steamboat Springs. they had like 300" inches of snow that year, and 0 snow days for the school system.1 point

Anytime I have gone to an area that regularly gets snow I have been amazed by how much better people handle driving in the snow.1 point

I still got my ticket. Gonna head up eventually and hope for the best.1 point

Thats what i would say too....that i have a plan. seems like they are getting some less than friendly fire for not making snow when the possibly could have.1 point

Looks like there could be a 48 hour stretch if temps stay below freezing as predicted right now for Wednesday. Hopefully they have their eyes on the prize.1 point

With projected lows in the 20's, they better be running the guns every minute they can! Hopefully that's their "solid plan ahead"...1 point
