No snow! No snow! The only snow Bern sees these days is on the wall of a sports shop. Feels great blending in with city folks while hauling skis in the streets and wearing a ski jacket with helmet swinging in the back. Feels even greater pulling the skis up the stairs to the fifth floor because they don’t fit in the lift, not horizontally, not vertically, not diagonally. I’m thankful to the girl at reception for not asking about if I’m going to water ski in these or if I got of the train a little too early. But, well, if you forget about skis, not a bad place to hang out for a day at all…8 points

There is a problem with skiing new places... You go somewhere new, you like it, and then you figure, what the hell, let's go there again, because, well, it was pretty good! Net result - no new places. We're off to Jungfrau region again with a one night stopover in Bern. This time the weather has played tricks on us, it was a massive washout lately, with temperatures above freezing and rain, rain, rain, at least in the villages. But WTH, if it's not snow, at least there will be trains! We're not in Grindelwald this time, rather in Lauterbrunnen, which is somewhat lower elevation, but provides easier access to Murren & Birg - the flank that we've totally missed last year. And the local trains still make it possible to easily get to Mahnlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and car-less Wengen. Will we get to First, which used to be next door, and now on the opposite end of the area? IDK, we'll see!7 points

Finally got my first day at Bear of the season yesterday for a quick 90 minute session. Nothing of note that hasnt already been posted by MG or Mixi. Going to be a ROUGH next 2 days. Hopefully they can survive till we get some snowmaking temperatures back.....although im only seeing lows of 26/27 degrees so hopefully they can fire up those nights. Gonna be spicy 🤕4 points

In college I spent a semester in Rome and when school was done a buddy and I went to Kitzbuhel to ski. When we arrived there was no snow and were told the only snow was the glacier in Kaprun so we hopped on a train to Zellam See3 points

Got an early night session in today..Snow was surprisingly good...There's just not a lot of it...All the steeper stuff there skied OK....but had to be aware of thin spots...Felt like a spring night....They must have had a busy day cause the lower and part of the mid lot were pretty full when I arrived at 5:30....Lift line was about 5-8 min....Can't remember the last time I skied at night....Haven't been there in like five years...Good to ski there again....2 points

Made it back at 6 with the fam for the first double dip of the year. Place was packed and it was pouring rain. Rain slowed after about 10 minutes and then there was a mass exodus of soaked people. 6 had a little line to start and quad was pretty much ski right on. Felt like student night since majority of the people were under 18. Push piles everywhere but the kid had a blast rolling over them and working on technique so it was a good time. Razors was closed until about 7 with a heavily bumped upper head wall and a snake from the racers cut in the middle. Fun rain night and glad we went. Was a little scared it be a wash when we got there.2 points

$123 for a lift ticket now? Damn. I used to be able to get a 4 hour weekday pass for 30 & change but now Blue wants a kings ransom. I really like *Blue Mountain the true mountain* but this is nutz. I don't ski Blue enough to justify a season pass so any tips on how to save on a daily pass would be appreciated.....1 point

Camelback's only charging $107 to ski Saturday ($12 parking scam tax + $95 lift ticket) which means you can ski there instead of Blue and save $11 to spend on Garden State Solanum lycopersicum.1 point

Sounds like you’re really going to luck out. The gondola was closed again today. The upper part of the mountain will be untouched. Flagstaff, such a cool town I wouldn’t mind living there. I have a friend that goes out every summer. He was raving about a Mexican restaurant he found , turned out I stopped there too “ Salsa Brava “ Pictures please!1 point

Oh Yeah!!!! I just hope things are back in shape for Martin Luther king day. It’s a tradition for rich white people to celebrate black history by skiing.1 point

My instructor was great! One of my issues is that I tend to squat down too much when I get nervous. One run she went behind me the whole time and every time she saw me doing thst she screamed “stand the fuck up.” It helped. 😂.1 point

Repetition is the best way to learn to ski bumps. When Blue had their bump clinic, they set a line on the Summit learning hill next to a magic carpet lift so we could lap them as many times as possible. The instructors stood next to the run shouting out corrections as we went down over and over and over again.1 point

The plan was to go to Winter Park with a bunch of girlfriends. It ended up being just me. got on the gondola shortly after 8:30 and people definitely slept in. Did 2 hours of non committal bumps on the sides of the runs. Light pretty flat, very windy at the top. Then I scoped out a forest road for winter camping near the resort. They will let you camp in G-Lot, but you have to keep it super low key. No fires, no cooking outside etc. We keep talking about doing an overnight. The place I checked out looked pretty good. Have to see if I can get the final word if it’s legal. nice big spot at the end of the plowed road.1 point

I think they’ll lose like 1/2-2/3 of their base. They should make it but be very thin this weekend.0 points

Elk is closing Wednesday. WVIA ski day is being postponed. Blue definitely has some thin spots on some trails but they are likely in better shape than some of the other resorts in PA. I wonder how they are going to hold up.0 points

Blue is closing today at 4pm until thursday morning. This is a humdinger of January thaws. Long lasting, lots of rain, fog and serious overnight warmth. I think blue will just barely able to survive this and the recovery will be slow.0 points

Yikes! Were they crowded this holiday week? Tough business to be in, so prices have to rise. But That's a tough pill to swallow - even thoughi 's easily the best mountain in the area.0 points
