  1. Waaay better than yesterday… Went to Mürren area, which is on the side, so less people than in the congested and well-connected Kleine Scheidegg or Mähnnlichen. Also higher and sunny, so win-win-win. Winteregg greeted us with closed lifts (a miscalculation on our side), but also nice long fast empty groomers. Felt right at home on frozen and teeth rattling corduroy and a racing team arriving an hour later. Looped this place for a while, it was alright, just frozen and in the shade, but eventually decided to move on to actual Mürren and its Birg area. It’s Birg at 2600m where thing really took off. Sun was high in the sky, we were way above thaw-freeze level, so snow was smooth, soft and abundant. It was a great day. If you wanna escape crowds around Lauterbrunnen and find sure snow, go Birg. It’s just that if you go there, you’ll be skiing one place all day long. In retrospective we should’ve planned doing it in the opposite direction. Gondola to Birg starts earlier, and it gets lit earlier as well. Winteregg on the other hand would feel way better in the afternoon after others have smoothed the comb a little.

  2. 5th chair on the az gondi...hike to terrain on upper bowl was open. I said fuck it and hiked the 500 vert to 12k. Lord Jesus was it worth every fucking step. Surreal. Shin deep, float city and a run that I won't soon forget. At the base taking a breather now but I could be done now and be a happy man.

  3. 3 inches fell on the mountain last night. They opened the hike to bowl access at some point yesterday. Considering it for today if there are folks I can tag along with. Planning on getting to the mountain early to beat the crowds and maximize my time. Snows done and the suns coming so it should be a beautiful day.

  4. Hey all, I’m back from a fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 8:35am and it was 40 degrees with light rain and areas of fog. In the house were Matt Edge, Dirtwolf, Atomic Jeff, Johnny law, Jimmy, Bethlehem ford guy and Harold. First run was on Paradise which was real nice smooth cord and fast. The thickest fog was on the last section. Main Street was the run of the day, the upper skiers right had fresh soft smooth corn and lower left was also good once through the skeet spot. I lapped that several more times then did Razors with Matt edge after the other PASRs quit. Razors was decent, not super smooth but alright and I skied that a second time then ended with more Main Street. I ended up skiing until about 11 then hungout in the lot with Matt edge and then Harold and Bethlehem ford guy for about another hour. The rain ended just after 11. All in all it was very nice spring snow, the coverage held up and still a good base on some runs and was nice to be back out after a long break. JADIP

  5. Another really fun day. Found some new off piste stuff which was nice then spent a lot of time on groomers and even some bumps off of lower ridge. Lower bowl into logjam was so good all day because the wind was blowing lose snow out of the woods and off the trees onto the trail so there was a skiff of new snow each run on it (first pic below...grand canyon was visible today as well...3rd pic gotta look closely much easier to see it in person). The sun finally did come out and still is in town. They're still say snow showers tonight. We'll see.

  8. Based on the forecast I'm really hoping they focus on resurfacing what's open. i sure as shit hope they don't waste the marginal temps on the ridiculous amount of snow the nmdw park requires. Put that on hold at this point (sorry @antman12)

  9. looks like they did a decent job filling in the shit stain on Main, or at least made it look a little less shitty. it looked bad yesterday.

  11. Most unexpected change of plans today. Instead of spending half a day in Bern and then proceeding to settle in Lauterbrunnen, we figured, oh why, don’t we have a full day train ticket, and wouldn’t it be a terrible waste to spend it on a trivial one way trip? Why don’t we take an impromptu detour to Zermatt while we’re here?? And so we went! Boarded 8am train to Visp along with a substantial company of other skiers and boarders traveling in about same direction, changed to Zermatt and in two hours total finally found some snow! Train arrives to Zermatt station, and then it’s an ugly electric bus or an even uglier taxi that takes you to the lift. We lucked out and found a locker available (were told to always reserve in advance should we decide to rent them again), dumped all the stuff there, grabbed skis and poles and spent the rest of the day on the slopes. Great decision! Zermatt’s high, weather was calm and sunny, snow was great throughout the day despite a late arrival, only problem was the longish chain of trains on the way to Jungfrau later at night.

  15. Exactly! That's why the government abhors decentralized currencies and cash, because they have no control over it and can't track its whereabouts. Wouldn't surprise me in the least that the government propped up FTX only to have it collapse in a major way, just to help the demise of crypto and/or call for backdoors to track/regulate it. Just read through the Twitter papers to see just how much reach/influence the government really has over social media and mainstream media. They spin stuff to make it sound like it's good for the people so they accept it, but what they doing is really for nefarious reasons.

  16. Sun is trying to come out today. Snow is really good but better yesterday... Think 2 days after a storm, tracked out. That said while my daughter was running groomers I found this gem off of upper bowl. Was excellent to say the least. JADIP

  17. Fun day today… It rained throughout the night, and the forecast didn’t call for the end of it till the afternoon… We postponed start by two hours, and still got our share of rain, sometimes mixed with snow. I applaud to those who started skiing on the hour. Conditions were really varying between just OK and worse. Fast soaked heavy spring snow, coverage ranging from great down to bare spots. Viz - at times full fog, at times flat light additionally limited by rain, at times sun. Hooray to the inventors of bubble lifts. A lot of closed trails in the area too. I can’t believe the coverage is so poor this year in Jungfrau. It’s plain depressing. Eiger run is closed, long trail toward Wengen that used to go right into town on the boardwalks and stopped by the very gondola, now ends one full train stop ahead. Absolutely no snow in Lauterbrunnen or even Wengen. Wow, just wow. Gonna try going to Mürren tomorrow and its higher Birg area…

  18. Posted up at EWR. Plan is to drive to Flag tonight, ski tomorrow, Thurs and Fri, drive to Phoenix to drop off my kid and meet with friends for dinner Fri night. Snowbowl has gotten about 60 inches over the last few weeks. Looking like sun and over the next few days however. Should be fun.

  19. There is a problem with skiing new places... You go somewhere new, you like it, and then you figure, what the hell, let's go there again, because, well, it was pretty good! Net result - no new places. We're off to Jungfrau region again with a one night stopover in Bern. This time the weather has played tricks on us, it was a massive washout lately, with temperatures above freezing and rain, rain, rain, at least in the villages. But WTH, if it's not snow, at least there will be trains! We're not in Grindelwald this time, rather in Lauterbrunnen, which is somewhat lower elevation, but provides easier access to Murren & Birg - the flank that we've totally missed last year. And the local trains still make it possible to easily get to Mahnlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and car-less Wengen. Will we get to First, which used to be next door, and now on the opposite end of the area? IDK, we'll see!

  22. Probably not coming tomorrow, I don't want to ski dirty snow. I'll wait until maybe they blow some fresh perder for Sunday.

  23. I feel like most of the blue regulars live an hour to an hour and a half away. One option might be to go north like to Canada. When you factor in the current exchange rate, you get a real bargain. Also corned beef sangs in Montreal are like 50% of what they are in the Philly-NYC region.

  24. Cause gas, tolls, miles on a car are not free and time spent driving is a factor too. I don't live 30 min / 20 miles from a ski hill like many of you do. 4 hr RTrip to Frost, 4.5 to RTop, 5.5 to Hunter are my choices. Gotta be decent to make it worthwhile. Will see based on tomorrow's reports if I decide to go for it Sunday. Not asking anyone for a handout, but would be more likely to make Sunday a Blue day if it were free rather than $158 (not sure where you saw 120).

  27. im putting my money on they will top off NMDW to get it open, finish getting challenge, side, switch, etc open before going back to NMDW to waste snow. all of this of course after freshening up whats open.

  28. I think they’ll first focus on resurfacing existing terrain and then reopen coming soon. NMDW still has some nice sized whales. Probably 2-3 feet lower than Monday.

  31. That’s why I am not a fan. The $600 thing is bullshit too. When my friends pay me back thru Venmo for trips, am I going to have to justify it? Just annoying.

  32. @saltyant this is getting good!!! Sweet pictures and the conditions look primo!!! Also nice seeing all the trees completely snow covered. I just checked the radar it looks promising for a couple inches of fresh snow tomorrow morning. Could be a sleeper pow day..

  33. Wow Suze Orman she’s a legend!!! Yup no power ATM machines don’t work. Not a bad idea to keep some cash on hand just in case even if it’s just a couple hundred dollars of walking around money.

  34. Or shut off your money like Canada did with the truckers protest. I hit Plattekill on storm Riley. Their CC system was down and all the other Catskills areas were out of power If you didn’t have cash you were “Denied “ to quote Suzee Orman . It was painful watching people turn away from 45” snowfall.

  41. Currently enjoying a coffee in the lounge by the fireplace (btw the coffee is readily available which is another reason this place is awesome...not to mention their ridiculously good breakfast. They don't just have a waffle maker but two ... Regular and one brown cinnamon sugar waffles which is so bad ass.). As for the skiing it appears there's more sun on tap for today with a high of around 35. Later this afternoon they're calling for snow showers and up to an inch in town which could mean a few inches in the mountain for tomorrow am. Tomorrow will be a short morning sesh before I need to head back to Phoenix (with perhaps a pit stop in Sedona). I plan on exploring more off the goni today to see what I can find.

  42. Of course. It worked out though cause I got to explore and go places that she wouldn't ski this morning. My legs were wrecked so the groomers now are nice. Upper and lower bowl and log jam are excellent still. I told her I'm not doing it tomorrow though. Lol

  45. Arrived at the staff last night after a pit stop on campus to drop off some stuff at my kids apartment. From there I-17 north was a breeze. Part of the fun always of coming to Arizona is driving north on 17 and watching the endless cacti and desert scenery turn into the greener mountains and valleys of the Verde Valley and Prescott and ultimately into for and pine trees and jagged peaks covered in snow. Speaking of which...there's plenty of it in town. Everything on the mountain is officially open with the exception of the upper bowl which I have a feeling is also "open". Awd is required to get up Snowbowl road and thankfully the good people at Alamo had an awd vehicle waiting for me. Shout out to the comfort inn in Flagstaff as well for being not only an awesome ski chalet type place but for also knocking $20 a night off my room rate simply because the person in the room under me is a complete tool bag who's annoying the shit out of the front desk.
