Hey all, I’m back from another fun morning at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 720am and it was in the low 40s under overcast sky’s. In the house was everybody who was there yesterday except Dirtwolf, Justo and Rose but KevinThomas, Nancy, Schif, Matt Edge, Falco and Shopey1080 were there. First civilian OG six pack to challenge which was firm, Paradise was a lot better as was lazy mile. Coming soon had similar firm conditions just like challenge. Crowds were super light with no lift lines. The snow got more edgeable on lazy mile and became full on spring snow on lazy. I didn’t think the snow was quite as spring like as yesterday…id say conditions were ok..a couple more skeet spots. It will be nice if we receive some snow this week. Fun parking lot and a sausage Sunday, I enjoyed a breakfast Sando, slider burgers, sausage and steak. JADIP!!8 points

It could have been enjos cooking but I thought today was better than yesterday as well. NMDW was most excellent and challenge after the first headwall was very good, Widow and le chute were soft almost from the start and held excellent turns. It was a little too uneven in places to really fly but a super nice way to spend super bowl Sunday.5 points

Whew, just finished up a hut based AIARE 2 course ( the last in the series). I learned so much and all the snow science is really fascinating. Prior to this course I only used the CAIC website as a resource. I realize now that there are so many factors to look at and consider. I also have learned that there are ways to mitigate exposure even on higher avalanche days. Red Mountain Pass was closed for about 40 hours from the storm. So the first day we did companion rescue practice in a meadow behind the town of Silverton. At a certain point in the beacon rescue you have to get out of your skis. Postholing to mid thigh every rescue was really exhausting. We were finally able to get up to the hut that evening. Day 2 was a light tour and mostly digging pits. Day 3 was definitley a “full value” day. We toured into US Basin. The weather was sort of sunny to start then got stormy. We observed some remote triggered smaller avalanches from a distance. We mapped out a tour plan from Cal Topo and set a track in virgin snow to get there. Roughly 100cm. The ski down was very fun. Had to transition to skins at the end which is always somewhat annoying. today was a day of just fun touring as we officially met the requirements of the class yesterday and requested to just take off. We are both dead tired. High altitude sleeping, bad eating due to low appetite poor sleep and I have had enough. Currently at Ouray brewery waiting for my giant burger.4 points

I was here last night with some friends. Couldnt make it anywhere else after work because everywhere closes so early at 8 or 9 these days. Snow was actually very nice surface all over and the snow cone machine was spitting snow out the tube all evening despite being 40s. The base was thicker than expected even on the west side. Not much of a line anywhere but it was fairly well patronized mostly with kids and the new ice rink seemed popular. For 30 bucks the place is entertaining enough for a few hours with the west side open and it's a lot easier to drag your infrequently skiing friends there than to get them to drop $100+ elsewhere Ya gotta be entertained with how the whole place seems straight out of the 70s too3 points

Maybe I’m confusing days..both yesterday and today were very solid days…but not boner doner except for the food and commaraderie. No real liftlines mid winter and chilling in the lot no jacket is a treat. Today felt a little chillier1 point

Been a couple weeks. Been busy AF and it’s a lot harder for me to get to blue with limited time. Hoping to free up for March.1 point

That’s deep and nice report..I was scrolling Facebook and saw a couple pictures and knew that a report was coming..airhead said there might be 4”+ coming out way so your report should hold us over until we see local backcountry reports.1 point

Oh man, riding up the quad first thing was like getting off a plane in Florida in the winter! The warmth smacked you right in the face. Going over NMDW, the grooming was impressive and rode that first thing. Wow! The two turns were a hoot and didn’t really see the mini booter halfway down until I was in mid air. Barney’s needed a bit of slipping to scrape off the crust to let the warmth turn them hero which it did after about an hour. Ended up lapping them until lunch. Everyone was complaining about how outta shape we all are from not skiing bumps all season. After lunch headed back out for a few more mashed potatoes runs. Right side of CS had some good snow and Lazy was thick and deep with it. Legs are pretty shot from today’s conditions.1 point
