  2. Made it back at 6 with the fam for the first double dip of the year. Place was packed and it was pouring rain. Rain slowed after about 10 minutes and then there was a mass exodus of soaked people. 6 had a little line to start and quad was pretty much ski right on. Felt like student night since majority of the people were under 18. Push piles everywhere but the kid had a blast rolling over them and working on technique so it was a good time. Razors was closed until about 7 with a heavily bumped upper head wall and a snake from the racers cut in the middle. Fun rain night and glad we went. Was a little scared it be a wash when we got there.

  3. Got an early night session in today..Snow was surprisingly good...There's just not a lot of it...All the steeper stuff there skied OK....but had to be aware of thin spots...Felt like a spring night....They must have had a busy day cause the lower and part of the mid lot were pretty full when I arrived at 5:30....Lift line was about 5-8 min....Can't remember the last time I skied at night....Haven't been there in like five years...Good to ski there again....

  4. Took the boys up for a few laps from about 2 to 5. Made 4 excruciating runs. Paradise, Tuts to lower widow to vista lift, then full Widowmaker run to vista lift then Lazy to lower Sidewinder. About 7000 turns. They had fun though.

  5. Got on the snow with @Boo Beararound 930. Shocked at the crowd after yesterday but I guess since they didn't do holiday rates, all the student passes were there. Probably left some money on the table but not having a holiday rate on a national holiday. Upper Main was my ROTD and was quite nice. Didn't get to TCS but sounds like it's getting thin. At one point the hill started filling with smoke and we thought it might be a brush fire nearby. Marty was at the top of the 6 and said the triple was smoking and had to be shut down. Not sure if the Coast Guard heli had anything to do with that but it did circle for a look at the mountain around the same time. Someone should have a photo of it to share. Fun people watching in the lot with the crowds before taking off. Heading back tonight with the kid, hoping for light crowds with the Penn State game on.

  6. Hey All, I’m back from a fun but short morning session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 820am and already a lot of people in the house because some thought they opened at 8am today. In the house were Schifdawg, Nancy, Mute, Ryan, MBike Mike, Boo Bear, Matt Edge, Atomic Jeff, JFDan, Dirtwolf, Indiggio and many more. Quite the line up at the six pack but still managed first civilian lift. Razors was almost corn snow to start, and Coming soon is getting down towards the base and pretty irregular. Lower paradise was already packed the second run. Temperatures were in the 40s on the upper mountain and upper 30s in the valley. Main Street was super nice smooth corn snow and the skeet spot is still skiing well. Midway was full on spring chop and revisiting razors it was full on spring snow. Today was the first day I encountered liftlines, only a minute or two. Skipped the post skiing beer today and back at work.

  7. There is a problem with skiing new places... You go somewhere new, you like it, and then you figure, what the hell, let's go there again, because, well, it was pretty good! Net result - no new places. We're off to Jungfrau region again with a one night stopover in Bern. This time the weather has played tricks on us, it was a massive washout lately, with temperatures above freezing and rain, rain, rain, at least in the villages. But WTH, if it's not snow, at least there will be trains! We're not in Grindelwald this time, rather in Lauterbrunnen, which is somewhat lower elevation, but provides easier access to Murren & Birg - the flank that we've totally missed last year. And the local trains still make it possible to easily get to Mahnlichen, Kleine Scheidegg and car-less Wengen. Will we get to First, which used to be next door, and now on the opposite end of the area? IDK, we'll see!

  8. The hotel bar is a hidden gem on busy weekends if you want to sneak in for a quick beer. Not sure if it’s changed but the cost of beer was less expensive than it was in the main cafeteria area.

  9. Scary thing is it ran again after that, hopefully just firing up the diesel?

  11. My instructor was great! One of my issues is that I tend to squat down too much when I get nervous. One run she went behind me the whole time and every time she saw me doing thst she screamed “stand the fuck up.” It helped. 😂.

  12. The plan was to go to Winter Park with a bunch of girlfriends. It ended up being just me. got on the gondola shortly after 8:30 and people definitely slept in. Did 2 hours of non committal bumps on the sides of the runs. Light pretty flat, very windy at the top. Then I scoped out a forest road for winter camping near the resort. They will let you camp in G-Lot, but you have to keep it super low key. No fires, no cooking outside etc. We keep talking about doing an overnight. The place I checked out looked pretty good. Have to see if I can get the final word if it’s legal. nice big spot at the end of the plowed road.

  14. Had a fun day at Blue. Conditions are holding up considering the warm weather. I haven’t skied since before Christmas, so was happy to be there. Razors was ROTD. Then had a great tailgate.

  15. You would think but unless they changed it PA had super loose restrictions on lifts compared to say NY which has an entire publication with very specific requirements, CO too where UT had no lift bars until the bird got whacked when that dude hit a retaining wall. I'm pretty sure in PA they are regulated under L&I as an elevator becuase Camelback had someone file a right to know a few years back on Sullivan but others have told me it's amusements. VT has the tramway board which has at least 30 full time inspectors that do nothing but ride lifts and run tests with load, the whole nine yards while Minnesota it's entirely up to the hills. Shit varies so widely but I would bet PA doesn't do a whole lot. Always loved Mase......Mase can you please stop smoking la la ? Puff why try ? I'm a thug, Ima die high

  16. I just got home like an hour ago, little disappointed the weather is total shit, it was colder in England but the cold will come back. Mad stoked to ski and get all that new area for activities and a little thin always is interesting. Did I miss anything dope ? Mute got a scooter I think which is hyper titty sparkles. Scooters fucking rock. Hoping crowds go back to normal especially if it's 55 degrees out

  18. Yeah, really spoiled by yesterday's lack of crowds, but today's snow was good and nobody was really interested in bumps after skiing them all day yesterday. Unfortunately it's back to the work grind tomorrow and some ugly weather to go with it.

  19. Thanks! Looking forward to going back and exploring some more terrain. Our class mostly did the terrain off the Ajax express lift. We concentrated on 5 or 6 bump runs and did them over and over. It was nice to know what to expect and the bumps did change day to day.

  20. Best conditions of the season so far, almost spring skiing already. Need winter to return! Once the temps warmed up enough, set a bump line from top of Main to the skid mark. Legs are shot!

  22. Buy it as early as possible. They throttle the price up as it gets closer to the date.

  23. I rocked all that on a trip to jay peak and Montreal when I was 18. For class of 97 our class motto was”Can’t Nobody Take Our Pride” paying homage to this song. You know Puff he takes hits from the 80s and makes em sound so crazy.

  25. Yeah and the scooter will be back. It’s the biggest thing to happen in the PASR row since Matt Edge brought out his frisbee. Welcome back!!!

  26. I would guess it's different in PA as they are technically an amusement ride but in alot of states ANSI specs that they run the APU everyday so that if the lift does break down you know the backup works. There are as many combos as chairs it seems, some have full diesel backups some can only run aux to unload the chair. The crossover chair at the bush ran an entire season under the diesel and used some kind of generators as the backup. Totally a guess but as its a fixed triple of some age I would bet you can run the whole thing of the diesel but they hadn't run it in awhile and the motor was running like shit.

  27. Hopefully that lift is now inoperable so they can close it down and sell the chairs for tree fitty and then they can cut a path to the new Super Duper Safari Sixteen Pack and get those gapers, herbs and geralds outta there so I don't have to waste time on that flat terrain. That would increase the odds of me renewing my pass by 0.00286%.

  28. You had me at smokeshow. @saltyant did you see this? Was a nice stretch of holiday skiing with a lot of various PASRs. I wanted to ski everyday Xmas to New Years but managed 6 out of 8 days which is alright with me. There had to be at least 15 different ski conditions. Blue made money, I got some quality skiing in. I believe both JFDan and Indiggio both had perfect attendance during the holiday week..way to get after it!!!! Now we have about 72 hours to get through before winter sort of returns.

  29. I sort of threw that scenerio around. At one point it was billowing out of a very concentrated area under the building, like it was coming out of an exhaust pipe. If it was the diesel, (1) it needs some work. (2) i get having the exhaust somewhere where water wont go down it, but having it dump out under the building where the chairs load seems kinda odd. and yeah, it did run shortly after the smoke show, so leaning towards diesel makes sense. That much smoke being electrical should have fried something, and most likely caught fire, like with some nice new year sparkly stuff.

  31. What was interesting with yesterday's bump line was with the sun at our backs we could see our shadow out in front and I could see when I was hunching over and had to straighten my back. The bad part was that I tended to look at my shadow instead of the oncoming bumps which really screwed up my timing.

  34. Repetition is the best way to learn to ski bumps. When Blue had their bump clinic, they set a line on the Summit learning hill next to a magic carpet lift so we could lap them as many times as possible. The instructors stood next to the run shouting out corrections as we went down over and over and over again.

  36. Was debating on whether or not to go today. But I'm glad I did. Conditions were good, snow was soft, nothing too terrible but there were the usual divots and unevenness to be aware of; but what made it extra spicy however where the crowds and fog which started out about half way up when we got there to almost entirely covered by the time we finished. Btw In the house were JfDan, Mute, BenM, Mixilplix, indiggio, mbike, enjorales, pops and if I missed anyone else I'm sorry! Overall a good ski day and no rain (at least not while we were there) Happy new year all!

  38. That stinks, hopefully it’s a mild case. They were sold out today,, I don’t know what the lift lines were like but parking lots were full. My son got a job there the hourly isn’t bad and a season pass perk as well as one for a family member for $75!

  42. BC 12/26 trail report. Rolled in at a bit after 8:30, 17 degrees and a blue bird day. Parked in 3rd row, fairly light crowd early. First few runs of the season on Kodiak and the snow was very nice, firm, and could set edges anywhere, not a trace of ice. Went to F chair side- Broadway had great snow top to bottom. Polar Bear also nice fluffyness. Timberline was a bit too firm for my taste. Grizzly was very nice side to side, in fact ROTD was skiers left of Griz and then cut over and down skiers right of Broadway. Extreme and Sasquatch not open yet. Lines started to build around 11 or so, decided to call it a day around 11:14. All in all a great "opening day".
