Popular Post GSSucks Posted January 11, 2021 Author Popular Post Report Posted January 11, 2021 (edited) Out of the press after a bunch of hours, I had the top sheet on this pair printed even though it is quite boring per my wife. I told her she can put anything on the next pair, hoping for some rocket ships. Top sheet right out of the press Bases right out of the press Next step is cutting out the individual skis, pretty much run the jig saw along the edge, just don’t cut the edge. The base is the only thing in the lay up that is the finish shape of the ski, so that is used for cutting the ski to shape. Cutting out the shape The final step before mounting and a tune is to bevel the sidewalls, I used the home made router table from a few posts ago with a bottom bearing 7 degree bevel bit. This puts a nice taper on the side walls and helps keep the top sheet from chipping while skiing. Final shape, I wanted to weigh them but I forgot before I put bindings on them. They ski like skis, and perfectly matched my kit. Couple more tweaks and he'll be ready to make a pro model for me...rocket ships and all. 2 1

Leave @AtomicSkier's pair completely unchanged from these, he looked like he actually enjoyed being on a "playful" ski! As he said though, amazing to hop on these knowing what went in to them and them skiing really well. I'd be curious to get them into some moguls; I think they'd be pretty fun in some soft bumps given how maneuverable they felt. 2

Im not sure if it is just a confidence thing that I know kind of what to expect and or do next or that I actually learned something from pair 1. The first pair I just used what I had tool wise as well, kinda rushed through them to get them ready for my trip and cut some corners. For the second pair I bought a new router, and its been a game changer, potentially the best $200 Ive spent on this project. Along with that I have been making better jigs and fixtures. The router table that I threw together for this pair has also been a huge help and something I will use a lot moving forward. At this point if I had 8 hours in the garage/basement to continuously work on a pair I think I could have them in the press at the end of the 8 hours. I know Justo wants a pair, so as soon as covid is over Ill have him over for a weekend and start on Saturday morning and hopefully he will have a pair of skis to go home with him on Sunday night. 9 1

The first pair I used way to much epoxy, so I wanted to cut back on this pair but I think I went a little to thin. While cutting the tip on one ski I found a soft spot that needed some additional work. After the ski was cut and finished I opened up the soft spot, poured some epoxy in and clamped it over night. After the fix it looks better but is still not perfect. Overall I’m pretty happy with this pair, as mentioned I learned a few more things to take into the next pair. The shape felt pretty good overall, perhaps the mount point could be moved around a bit. For what I was going for they are also a bit soft in the tip and tail so I will add some core thickness to the next pair. With everything else remaining constant and only a core thickness change it will be fun to ski the two skis back to back. Overall I’ll count it as a success and I’ll count pair 1 as a fail. I’ll have the new pair at Blue on Saturday, this will be S2P2. Yes, they do have a picture of my son shirtless on the tip, there may also be a Waldo hidden in there somewhere and perhaps a rocket if you look hard enough. In other news, I remounted S2P1 (the last pair) with a pair of Look px’s. If I did my math correctly, they should be adjustable from a ~25.5 to ~28.5 boot size, they will be available for anyone that wants to take a few runs on them, just find me.
