I'm still here on a downright foggy morning. Drive up, visibility was like pea soup, but just as I crested the mountain, visibility got much better. Temp in the lot was 34 and the groomers were out in force, working on the big well at the top of Central Park and on the learning center hill. I. The house was Me, but Rodney rolled in as I was heading to the lifts and Tarpon is due any minute now. First run was down Paradise to loosen up after a long day yesterday. Snow is almost hero, due to the temps and absolutely carveable. Had the run to myself. Next ride up the 6, the cloud layer began to drop and the top shack was socked in. About halfway down Tut's, visibility cleared and went down Lazy. Snow was as good or a bit better than Paradise. They had a groomer out and the intersection with Sidewinder, I think they were fixing light bulbs. Took a run down Challenge, which was a tad bit better than yesterday because of the temps, so you could at least get a bit of a carve going. Snow on the second drop was far better than the 1st headwall. Clouds layer is still dropping. Made my way over to Main to check out the bumps. They did nothing to them, as expected. However they're a bit better than yesterday as the snow is a bit softer. Unfortunately the entire top section is socked in. The lower half of Main is beautiful. Took a run down Come Around and Midway. They opened up the connector from Mideay to Burma, but I didn't bother with it. Booting up... I'm a winner!!5 points

So my first stop on the MAX pass this year was Killington & Pico this past weekend. Saturday morning was decent with 1-2" overnight softening everything up, and Sunday was bluebird AND COLD!! I drove up Friday night, slept in my car both nights. Saturday night I was pushing the limits of a 0 down bag with it being -3 out. Have to say if anyone is looking for a good sleeping bag for cold weather I would recommend the Marmot Never Summer bag. Added a blanket around my feet and slept like a baby! Decent coverage at Killington for earlier season with 80+ trails open already!2 points

Holy crap. i have walked from the lot to the ski shop 4 times now and walked right over the concrete they were sitting on, and didnt realize they were gone. I never saw those things open ever. Thats an interesting addition. If Blue owns this item, my guess is it will barely be open, and barely make a profit. If this is someone else's, they will make money with it. not sure why they would bring someone else in to compete with the cafeteria, but remember its Blue.2 points

Freaking awesome snow right now, but I gotta bolt and get shit done. Leaving the goods for Tarpon! Looks like Blue got wind of Enjorales' meat, so they're bringing in competition! Step it up Enjorales!2 points

Bumps were superb until the shade hit them around 1:30. They were still good after but I’m being a whiney fuk. Indiggio and I saw the same Asian girl struggling on tuts three runs in a row. Blue should rename tuts as The Orient Distress in her honor (ba-dum-tiss [emoji12]). Spoke to MILF-y woman at bbq truck, said they will be there every weekend starting this weekend. We will see. Honestly, it makes more sense to me to have the food trucks (yes another A-town truck pulled in later in the afternoon) handle the weekend crowds instead of blue running the outside food biz (labor/ supplies and now some else’s headache). Be back tomorrow!!!!!1 point

Corbetts is almost always closed and when it's open it's some of the worst snow on the mountain. I don't want to get injured. Every trip to Jackson hole that I end not injured is an accomplishment to me.1 point

Technically you don't even have to ski it, one could just get sendy and roll/rag doll down the apron and I think it still counts.1 point

Rocker in groomer skis is all marketing horseshit, of course they will initiate the turn easier the effective length on some of these skis is like 165 but if I'm buying the skiing equivalent of a gun surfboard, something long and stiff that wants to go go go and be driven all the time like say a MX98, the older Bsquad, OG LP's, Mantras or the m103 that's the exact opposite of what I'm looking for. That said reverse camber fucking murders pow, can you ski 2ft of diamond dust on 63mm waisted sl skis ? Sure but it's exponentially easier and more fun on some monster boards with lots of reverse camber. Positive camber, particularly in a twin tip introduces negative pressure above the tails and sinks the tips. True reverse reverse skis like the dps spoon fucking murder pow, it's point them and go, it's how you ski pow in your head, zero work all fun, schmear turns, the sort of power slide are super easy and fun. The downside is you literally can't physically carve them, if you get them on edge your legs go apart which is pretty cool plus on any kind of approach that requires side stepping or something the lack of edge underfoot blows. Most people aren't going to have a quiver full of skis with a dedicated traditional cambered ski for hard snow and some reverse reverse monsters for pow so you make a hybrid. Positive camber or at least flat under foot with traditional shape, big floppy tips and tails and you can semi-legit sell somebody a one ski does everything and not be lying. DPS RPC, Super 7/Squad 7, etc etc etc they can carve pretty well on even very hard snow and they can handle 2ft, now it won't ski as well as dedicated skis but most people don't own 15 pairs of skis. ON3P and Moment have I think the best working versions of hybrids, the death wish works though is an imperfect ski, the Bibby Pro is legend etc etc etc It doesn't matter at all but it kind of does, lots of reverse camber shortens the effective length of the ski so if your a 184ish normally 194 is probably a better option. Also it generally narrows the balance point of the ski, so the rossi super 7 has a narrowish balance profile which when combined with a pin tail can give this weirdish feeling from the tails. So if you carving a semi aggressive arc the tails on most skis sort of thrust you out of the turn and provide instant feedback if you in the back seat but skis with lots of rocker tend to let you hang out back there with no real feedback except that they obviously aren't' engaging the front of the ski as well. How much does this really affect anything once you know and stay centered ? Not really at all and there are big fucking pow skis that don't have that problem like the shiro.1 point

The lower lodge caf gets absolutely mobbed on busy weekends, so this will hopefully help with thinning the crowds there and improving guest experience? I'd be willing to bet that the mountain is renting out that space for the food truck and/or taking a cut of income.1 point

Also...the Big Wally video...my favorite line is at 2:50 "He jumped in Corbets with all the upper management types...I had enough of that scene so I went around the corner and jumped into S&S and met them at the bottom". Wally died back in 2010 right before my trip out there when he got swept off a cliff in Cheyenne Bowl and now has the woods next to the bowl named after him. http://www.jhnewsandguide.com/news/top_stories/patroller-buried-in-avalanche/article_db536931-3403-53d3-a79d-4418a037150d.html1 point

Hey All, I'm back from a fun Saturday at Camelback mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lot around 728AM and also in the house were many others. I woke up around 606AM, and as I made my way eastward on I-80, I experienced a legit defcon level one crisis. I realized I would not make FirstTrax(tm)(c)(r) on time, and would miss out on all that fresh cord. Unfortunately, I had miscalculated my wake-up time and ended up a whopping 8 minutes late for FirstTrax. The saving grace, however, was that fellow elites (Camelback season passholders) were kind enough to save some fresh cord for old saltyant, so I didn't miss out entirely. But it was still a truly devastating blow. The walk from car to lift was also agonizingly long and brutal after being spoiled from Blue's short walking distance. Early morning skiing conditions were top notch. They remembered to groom all 6 trails. The snow wasn't exactly the fluffy powder that I was expecting, but it was nice to finally ski on packed powder. I decided to see how fast I could go after blazing down Blue's trails on Wednesday evening with actual slalom skiers. I broke my personal record on Marjie's and hit 49.9 mph. Wow! I'm not sure I can break the 50 mph barrier, but I came damn close to my lifetime goal with that run. I also tried speeding in the slow zone on Meadows to see if I would get a ticket from the cops, like everyone claimed I would. Despite several lightning fast runs down Tuts and into Meadows, I did not get pulled over even once, therefore concluding that this claim is definitely an old wives tale and urban legend. As the day progressed, the crowd grew but never got overwhelmingly large. The lift line was almost always a short wait, and I figured out how to maximize run efficiency by going in the singles line on the far left of the queue area. However, every single trail turned to a sheet of ice by late afternoon, especially Marjie's. My poor Elon skis just could not get any traction, and I ended up skidding down Marjie's most of the day. I also got to ski some glades (between 2 trees) and literally became an expert skier. I decided to call it a day around 327PM after a prolonged lift stop because the lift got tired and needed to nap for about 15 minutes. I made a total of 47 runs today and 26,687 feet of vertical descent. The weekend ahead looks truly promising. Rumors were circulating all day long that they might get another trail open next week. A worker told me that the water supply for snowmaking is dwindling, so once they find some water they will be able to get another trail open. This wonderful news amplified stoke levels across the mountain by over 9000. I will likely head back to Camelback tomorrow morning to hit some more FirstTrax early on before conditions get slick again.1 point

Thanks everyone for the kind words today was super dope, one of my best ski days ever. Injuries are never fun and not skiing sucks hairy donkey dick. I never doubted I'd ski this year but not drinking at 1030am and hanging out with you losers adds some extra suck. Snow today was excellent and paradise/challenge were a sweet bonus. It's most excellent to be back.1 point

Cold day. Definitely need to work on my gear situation a little. got first.5 chair. Pretty sure tarpon and his crew were 2nd along with jlaw. Took a nice little rest on the steps. look.... this isnt some obscure mountain in the souther rockies. You dont get to be a little 'slow' with character. Its a ski area around large metropolitan areas. Its the little things. Get it together1 point

Just rolled home, bugged out around 1:30pm or so. Poor Ty got coerced into seeding Barney's after all the other grooming they had to do. Mad props to him and the groomers! First runs down Barney's were spectacular with the fresh snow being pushed into bumps. Unfortunately it didn't take long for that to be scraped off down to the hard pack. The inside line beside the bumps had nice, scraped snow which made for some good half-bump skiing. The edges of Main Street and the sides of Lazy had the best snow overall and it was tough leaving them, but the thighs are on fire after doing a bunch of t2b Barney's runs and then doing both sides of Main street. Challenge is gonna need more snow and lots of grooming to grind up those marbles! I thought first runs down Paradise were pretty good, but there were a few ruts that you had to watch out for.1 point

I think everyone that has met JLaw has a huge man crush on him....the parking lot wasn't the same without him. Conditions on Main St and Lazy were very good. Challenge/Paradise were cookied up as they saw their first trax of the seasons today. I guess I was the first civilian down PA's second best double diamond.1 point

3" fresh light fluffy stuff, 12* and sunny with no wind. Changed our routine and were on mtn at 8:45. Fresh powder on top of groomed cord. Just perfect (looked like the pics of Blue this morning), no crowds or lift lines as usual. We were the only patrons in lodge when booting up at 8:30. Skied the mtn, same 9 trails open today with snowmaking on Slalom and the West side of mtn. Groomers working on lower Tunk, the snow bowl, and around the quad lift. Back to cabin for breakfast, a shower, and change into drinking attire. 😀 Life is good..... Sorry to much fun for images.1 point

I've been biking forever and would always quit in the winter. After getting sick of sitting in the house every winter, I decided to get a job as a lift attendant at Eagle Rock. Once I saw how much fun skiing looked, I was determined to give it a try. One day after work, rentals lent me a pair of skis and boots for a few hours. I had to walk down the beginner hill the first few times, but once I started making it down without falling, I was hooked.1 point
