Windy af but not super cold with the sun out, wookie fleeces kind of weather. With what is rumored to be the biggest tubing weekend ever and special guest appearance by Oprah Winfrey they are blowing that shit deeeeeep. Guns on to reasonable effect on challenge up to the upper headwall, everything above that is blowing into Cherryville. Also blowing on Switch but to little effect as almost all of that is blowing onto main. Snow is good, still some slick spots but infinitely more together with lots of speed and grip. The marbles on main are considerably smaller and raceway/chute/lower is quite nice. Coming Soon is nice but alot more wind effected, NMDW is as good as its been all year so I mostly lapped that. Not quite absolute full speed but super nice to start to get aggressive on it. I think challenge will go, the upper yellow is putting out some depth but not sure about switch. The wind really needs to die down as it wasn't accumulating there at all.9 points

Got talking to the guy next to me in the parking lot with a sweet pop up truck camper and missed the rope drop, and the racers crowded the quad so went up on the six pack. Conditions much than yesterday, and got better as yesterday morning went on. Fierce wind on Main Street, people struggling coming off Burma trying to get up that hill near the ski patrol building. The two guys on Razors yesterday must have been preparing to set up the gates for the U18 race today. Overall a great day and should be a good weekend.4 points

Great first day back at Cb! Hasn’t snowed in a few days here so the groomers were fun and fast. I thought the bumps would be rough since they looked icy but they were fun too. started on the Silver Queen down to Paradise Bowl. Did 3 runs there then headed over to East River. There is a run called Black Eagle one half is groomed the other half bumped. We lapped that a bunch dipping in and out of the bumps Sarah me trying to pick a line Had a snack at the Umbrella Bar and did some east laps off that side. I ended my day after 12 runs, Sarah stayed longer. Had a weird conversation w a guy on the shuttle home: Guy: I always wondered if the band makes those skis (talking about my Black Crows) me: just gave him a funny look guy: so do you like their music? me: they’re ok after a 5 minute silence guy: (don’t even realize he is talking to me at first) So I did one long top to bottom run today. I am going to get my car and head over to Monarch so I can ski two places in one day. Probably just do one run there and come home. me: just gave him a funny look and said ok4 points

I didn't see the February 2nd thread so I figure I'd be like Mick Jagger and start one up. more weird conditions this evening from fresh man-made to cookie fields to sugar. It's better than it's been at least. Guns are blaze and lots of areas they're really pushing to get challenge open. That little ski school Hill next to tubing is also getting snow making action haven't gotten over to the main Street Express yet to see what's going on over there we'll do in a bit3 points

Sibby doesn't do mountain tours anymore. As it is, from doing that for various forum members for 15 years, I have a calendar full of returners every year all season. Several I have to duck all week because there's no WAY I'll ski with them again! Fortunately, there's Ambassadors who give tours twice a day for free. End of February is usually ideal for tons of fresh snow. Bring your yellow or rose goggles.3 points

And I WAS enjoying my zen. First bluebird day I feel like I have had all season. Legs felt good, Sarah was cracking me up, no lift lines, no wind. Pretty damn good day.3 points

@Ski2Live Live2Ski Great analytical post. Do you also have a breakdown per person per day that factors in gas, hot cocoa costs and car depreciation? Is this data available on a per run basis as well?1 point

I found Ski2Live's post very informative. The most important thing is to minimize cost per ski trip.1 point

I've spent exactly zero skiing Blue since 59 months ago when I spent $597 on 3 passes that got us 42 ski days for $14.25/person/day. (Excluding gas and hot cocoas)1 point

Sib, I would never expect you to give me a tour. Definitely going to take advantage of an ambassador tour.1 point

Seriously I want the cross team members and smartstylers to be able progress and touch the sky. Maybe we’ll have challenge for Sunday.1 point

Impressive snowmaking job on tubing. Looks like they could have at least 30 lanes open this weekend.1 point

Challenge dumps onto falls, and homestretch. Sidewinder does the same. Switchback dumps onto lower main. Lol. so, expanding which of these trails will keep shuttle, homestretch and terrain run from getting beat to shit in 2 hrs? When the place is fully open it gets beat to shit in two hours. this is nothing new.1 point

Was up there for a bit tonight...They have a ton of guns going.....Walked out covered in snow....Surprised they weren't blowing on the trail under the F lift....Varied conditions from sticky fresh stuff/kinda sorta fluff stuff/ firm snow/ice....and some small dirt spots....They should be able to get some good production the next couple of days...Had a super fun time there tonight....1 point

Day 6, solo skiing with groomers in mind since my legs just arent as fresh as they could be. Small crowd to start, which i thought would be the theme of the day. 2 laps on International with some nice fresh cord. A lap on Paradise, then i made the decision to see if East River was cooperating, which it was. I talked with some type of employee on one lift ride that said a groomer hit one of the East River towers Thursday night which caused it to be closed Friday, i saw a groomer toting a welder down to it at one point, and then it was just a little pissed off on Saturday, i think they were able to run it, but not full speed. East River is a nice area, and has some great trees, so of course i couldnt resist. Made the best of the trees, even though it probably wasnt too pretty, but we just dont get to ski decent stuff off trail at Blue enough, so its hard to pass up. Went to eat when the lift lines started getting a little longer then normal at noon, odd thing was, the restaurant was empty. Ran some groomers from the base after lunch, alternating between silver queen and red lady, depending on the line situation. The Teocali lift was down for maintenance the past two days. no big deal, as that lift really doesnt go anywhere i was concerned with, but on the lift ride with the CB employee, who i think was an instructor, eluded to the fact that "maintenance" was code word for "lack of employees". Im not super happy with Vail, i just dont like their business model, and what they are doing to skiing in general. i feel like Vail just wants to show the skiing public who is boss. I like to think Vail has fucked up Crested Butte the least of all its resorts. We will see. I never saw "epic" lines when i was here, but Barb says things have picked up over the past 2 years here.1 point
