Hey All, I’m back from another fun session at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 830 and it was sunny with a temperature of 27 degrees with moderate winds. In the house were Atomic Jeff, C1er and the Bethlehem ford crew. I started on the quad which began about a minute late and had about a five minute stoppage halfway up the first ride. First run I skied Challenge and it was a carpet. Any thought of wet snow refreezing and becoming firm was out the window. It was true packed powder. Second run on Main street very nice similar conditions but a little slow. Nightmare to dreamweaver was super good, better than challenge. Liftlines of a few minutes formed real fast on the quad which a shorter wait for the super summit safari six pack. The OG six was not running. I skied my first razors of the year and super good a few iffy grooming spots with a hole on the far lower skiers left. I skied razors three times and skied another Main Street which had a few slick spots exposed. All in all a fun session but with lifetimes and a few other lift stoppages was a super slow pace with 7 runs in 76 minutes. I might be back Friday AM if not then ski everybody Saturday. I’ve been watching ticket sales and Saturday could be a sellout.8 points

I chatted with a few people that said 309 was a problem. I didnt have problems until the sheetz on 145, cars sliding and couldnt get going at the light. Then i got behind a box truck that shouldnt have been out on the roads. Then behind a line of cars, and for some reason we had to stop on a hill to watch some guy make love to the embankment in the other lane, kinda did a dicey pass there to get around those. No traffic for me going up blue mt drive. oh, and i learned the demo day thing was buckmans employees only.3 points

Ducked the rope at about 940 on Sidewinder. Both Switch and Side when they were untouched were hard pressed to clip a rock cutting a fresh line but once tracked up got a little sketch. Such a good day.3 points

WJW I'm getting old. Talking to some young whipper snappers and thought they were high schoolers, but they are college students. Can't believe I used to look like that2 points

I’m loving all the pictures. Sounds radical. You must be working up quite the appetite skiing so much Poe Poe1 point

Correct. That's just like Toasts favourite store Hot Topic. There sure is a flurry of activity in this thread. I don't think I would pass as a college student as I now look like I'm 22 instead of 21.1 point

@saltyant this is becoming like a store my friend Kristen used to work at in the mall,”a Hot Topic” Are you staying somewhere nice in state college? Maybe pretend you’re a college student.1 point

Challenge Express started up about 1030 after the quad had extended pauses on every trip up. Every slope was in great shape except the section above midway that had some big groomer gouges hiding in the shadows. Strong wind blowing up the hill, but not too bad on more protected slopes. Guns going full blast on Sidewinder and Switch, neither were open. Glades were sketchy if you care about your equipment. Hit one of my higher speeds of the year on lower Main.1 point

I’m a few miles north of you and it took me 2:25 hrs. I detoured by Sheetz on 145 after another detour North of Allentown and had to stop for someone who had both lanes blocked while they fiddled with their wipers. There was a plowed lot nearby that they could have pulled into. Backroads were better than the packed ice mains. Although I had to stop for a huge gust of wind that caused a total whiteout for 45 seconds, I literally couldn’t see my hood. Yeah it’s skiing so it was worth it 😁🤟1 point

It took me 2 1/2 hours from right above Quakertown. If anyone is familiar with 309 where it turns in to I-78 West always a cluster there. Then my escape route onto 145 there also a cluster. Cars off the road everywhere. Can’t understand why folks in small cars with low profile tires even attempt to drive in this.1 point

I would say their claims of a foot are valid, based on what i walked through to get to the quad.1 point

I would like to give Blue a little credit today. They had employees there, and both lifts loaded basically on time. i dont think they fucked anything up today. Nice work Blue!1 point

$12.75. She asked if I wanted toppings and I just said to load me up. It was pretty good but I admit I couldn’t finish it. 😂1 point

Over the years there have been a few up-hilling it. We were told as long as they have a lift ticket they are good to go.1 point

I had some work to do in the morning, but the leg felt pretty good after yesterday, so I decided to stick to the plan and do a couple lower mountain runs followed by some mid mountain runs to ease back into it. I got out on snow about 1 today and went about an hour and a half to 2 hours on 7 runs. Mostly went off of Bravo and Gatehouse lifts. Only 7 degrees colder today than yesterday, but a huge difference in snow consistency. Yesterday was corn and today was more sugary. There were plenty of sugar piles and icy spots to be had, but for not having any natural snow in a week plus, I thought the conditions were standard for February in New England. There was a good crowd for a Monday. Trails of the day surprisingly were Downspout/Domino Chute and Valley House Traverse. The traverse, while relatively flat, was pitched well with snowmaking this year and wasn’t skied off due to the pitch. I stopped in the middle of it and still made it across with plenty of speed. Quite an enjoyable little section with a great view. All in all, a great day, and tomorrow I’ll try to make it to the top and test the leg out on some t2b runs. I guess I’ll stick with the PT and home PT. It’s made a huge difference so far. Pics below:1 point

It’s been a tough year on the snow so far. Lots going on personally, and I’ve been dealing with a nagging injury that finally de-compensated and required PT. We had some water damage this summer to our place in VT that I had to come address, and the leg was feeling better, so I decided to get out on the snow a little while I was here. We split the drive over 2 days, so we didn’t get into Sugarbush yesterday until around 3 PM. It’s been 6 weeks since I rode last and I hadn’t tested the leg, so I figured getting out on snow for a few runs on the lower mountain would be a good test. I pulled a Joey move and threw the snow pants on over the jeans, went with the old PLB, and got on the Village Lift at about 3:15. It was the end of the day so most of the crowds had dispersed. 42 degrees at the base and an early corn harvest. I did one run each of the “distinct” runs off the Village lift for 3 runs total. The leg felt pretty good overall. It was good to be back out. The goal is to get out today after lunch for a couple hours and at least get to mid mountain for a few runs. Here’s some pics:1 point

Forgot to mention the parking situation. Plow trucks didn’t really plow the area. All 12 of us had to dig out some spots, took a while. Then we had to park like Tetris so we all fit. One girl got pretty stuck and 4 of us had to push her out. Morning of departure I got really stuck as someone not w our group pulled in and left me very little space to get out. I cut it too hard and dug my wheel into a snow bank. Luckily a snowmobiling bro was kind enough to pull me out w a tow strap. jammed in parking and one dead battery.1 point

Wow well thanks for the prompt response and sorry you struck out on your skiing…I’m bummed for you buddy. If it’s any consolation, I had to ski the left side of a perfect razors near the bottom cause there was a snowboarder on the right side.0 points

If it’s any consolation, me and atomic Jeff were stuck on the lift for like five minutes earlier0 points

rough morning. went out at 7 to start the driveway but the tractor wouldn't start - even though i had it on a battery tender all night. got it jumped, but couldn't make it through the snow. took about 20 min to get the snowblower going, snow was jamming up in the auger though so it wasn't doing much. was running out of time so said fuck the driveway. walked over to the truck and noticed that i had left my passenger window all the way down all night. boots and gloves covered in snow. whatever, dust it all off and get ready to go. couldn't start the truck, 10 min later i was able to jump it. 5 min from blue but blocked by a tree. try to go an alternate route that prob would've added 20 min. blocked by another tree. i chalked it up as a loss and white knuckled it the whole way home. roads are pretty bad. i don't think anything off a state road had been plowed in 3-4 hours. back at work. highlight of my day was seeing two guys on a snowmobile with skis and a snowboard prob headed to blue which was pretty cool. they might have been able to get around the tree, i dunno tho. maybe that and i was able to get up my driveway without getting stuck. everything did not go as expected.0 points

My niece was sick at the super bowl get together and now my brain feels like it's trying to escape out of my ears. I'll see how I feel in the morning but that should guarantee a good storm.0 points
