  1. Screen grab from a video that @indiggio‘s buddy got of me dropping into Corbet’s. Not super impressive but definitely a bucket list run that I’ve been wanting to hit since I first went out to JH 10+ years ago.

  2. Pro tip: Fold the ticket in half before you expose the adhesive. Makes the process less like an I Love Lucy episode. Oh, totally forgot: I turned 50 and competed in a downhill fatbike race in the same week. I just rode my regular bike, though, not a fattie. Bottom line: if you ever get the chance to ride dh in the winter, you should do it; it's a ridiculous blast!

  3. Wow today was one of the best conditions I remember skiing at Blue. Snow was a nice firm chalky, fast with loads of grip. ROTD is a tie between Razors and Main St. Everything was excellent. Around 10:15 some flurries moved in and stayed until after I left at 11. Ran into ZZ and Hayatta on the way back to the lot. Cold today, but a decent crowd. Not crowded but more people than I expected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. Day 4 was back to Jackson with about 2” on the ground outside the condo. When the sun came up, the top of the mountain was socket in and decided we’d to take the gondi for the marquee route. Caught the bus over to the base and took our rightful spot at the front of the gondi line to begin our wait. I didn’t notice the temp, but it felt like the tropics! I dropped a layer before skiing an inch. Avy bombs started going off which increased the excitement level. Up the gondi and down Ampitheater which was already cut up by the wallets, no doubt. We all agreed it felt deeper than 3” and the big rollers provided some interesting diversions due to the low/flat light. Up Thunder we couldn’t see anything up top, so we knew we had made the correct choice in lifts. At the top of Thunder we couldn’t decide whether to go around and down the groomed line of Laramie or just take Grand, we chose the latter. I went far left and found time untracked powder as the right side was all cut up already. As we rode up Sublette into the clouds we started to wonder what we got ourselves into as it was total whiteout halfway up. We planned on heading back down to lap Thunder, but when we reached the top the sun broke through, so we did a couple of laps through the Bivouac woods which easily had more than 3”. It was approach 11:00 by now, so we bugged out and headed for Marmot to grab lunch before the crowds shuffled in. Of course, I forgot my wrap in the fridge which typically happens in the powder day morning rush, so I settled on 2 double protein bars. After lunch we headed over to the Moran face and lapped them a few few times until the legs gave out. Probably could have gone longer, but with it continuing to snow all day and more forecast for tonight, I wanted to save something for that. Back at the ranch, hit the hot tub w/ beers and then got cleaned up for a night in town. First stop was the ski tour party at the Moose that consisted of lukewarm taco salad, wings, various pizzas and a beverage of choice (I had a Wilson iPA). After stuffing ourselves, we caught the bus into town and did the obligatory shots in the center square and drinks at the Cowboy saloon. One of the other guys turned me onto Jack and Ginger, which go down WAY to fast! I think I found my newest favorite drink when bloated from too much beer. We stopped at the Wort hotel, which was supposed to have a band but for some reason didn’t, so we just took in the beauty of the place. We went back to the Local bar, but the bar was quite crowded, so we bugged out. All the while we were walking the town it was puking snow. Back at the ranch we reveled in the day’s skiing, had some Wyoming whiskey and hit the sack in preparation for another day of powder skiing. @tarponhead loves this place! Some interesting sights to behold. Captain Kirk skis? Jocularity at the saloon Wort hotel main staircase.

  5. Hey PASRs! It's Sally here with a check-in from the Green Mountains! I saw Salty's excellent trip report from CBK and I was inspired to see if I could do a sort of Greatest Hits Report of what's been going on up here, ski-wise. I do genuinely miss skiing at Blue; miss the night-skiing, miss the lot. I even smoke more weed than Doug now. Anyway, here's the haps from up north: I have a lightly-used VT Gold Pass; it’s the catch-22 of working in the ski industry: All the perks you could want and no time to use ‘em. I do ski at Magic whenever I get a chance. Love that place for leaving intermediate trails ungroomed for us mere mortals and plodding intermediates. S6 tends to roll up the carpets early in the season, so when we close, I hope to get out for some spring skiing. Ascutney Outdoors, for whom I was doing a shite-ton of volunteer social media and PR work, has turned out to be full of assholes, and I'm glad their stupid rope tow keeps un-fraying. (The first time it happened, I was still doing PR for them and I had to announce the shut-down. I posted: "Rope Tow this weekend? 'FRAID NOT!" ) Anyhoo, I asked those jerkfaces if I could reduce the number of hours I was volunteering for them. They told me it wasn’t that much work and probably I was lazy and inefficient, then they kicked me off the board. I felt like Fredo in The Godfather II. I didn't get in their fucking rowboat, though. ^Trash. Fuck them.^ Presidents’ week we were booked solid and jammin’ in the ski school. Then a young instructor called out for the day and it screwed up the schedule completely. Then I saw him skiing. I said “Mike, did you seriously call out so you could come ski. HERE!?” He said yes. Because he’s a dumbass. I told our mountain manager, who said, like a really nice-but-angry Jabba The Hut: “BRING HIM TO ME.” I bet Mike felt a lot like Fredo in that moment, too. We haven’t seen him since, come to think of it… Here’s my interaction with every tenth customer: ME: “Do you know how to use the wicket?” CUSTOMER: “Yes, of course. <<eye roll>>.” (Three seconds pass) CUSTOMER: “Can I… uh, have another ticket? <<Shows me a crumpled lift ticket stuck awkwardly to itself and the wicket, but NOT attached to the customer’s jacket.>> I showed up at a night-time snowshoe that takes place every Thursday night. Everyone was on xc skis or snow-trekkers (Altai Hoks or BD Glide Lites). They said it was no problem, they’d wait for me. I was like, I’m not that slow, why would they have to wait for me? Then we got to the top of a big pasture and stood chatting and enjoying the beautiful night sky. When it was time to go down, the skiers/trekkers all said BYE! and shushed off through the fresh powder. I was like “@#$%^&*“ snowshoes!!!”. So now I have me some BD Glide Lite 147s with AT bindings on them. Getting them mounted today; will report back. That's about it. I tried snowboarding and fell a lot and it sucked. And my cat's still a jerk. Hope the spring skiing in PA is awesome! Best wishes to everyone! Sally out!

  6. Day 2: started two hours earlier and we were at the top of the mountain at 10:00 with a temp of 10°-- and bright sunshine no wind. Pretty similar to the first day. Exploring and learning more of the trails. We skied out the back side of the mtn most of the day, then had a late bowl of chili at the on mountain Hellroaring Saloon and Eatery. The original 1949 lodge. Clouds began forming by the afternoon and light snow was predicted. Back to Whitefish and a great Italian meal at Ciao Mahmbo for dinner. Shrimp fra diavlo... Day 3: Wow a heatwave, 22° but breezier and fully overcast. 2-3" of fresh snow made skiing real nice. Again did most of our skiing on the backside and ended the day again at the Hellroaring. Tonight's meal was at the Tupelo Cafe. Buffalo meat loaf, garlic mash etc.. Day 4: 27° and snowing! Our breakfast stop was crowded so we caught the 9:40 bus and found about 6" of fresh with snow still falling. Unfortunately the famous Whitefish Fog was making its presence known. We made the mistake of taking the high speed to the top ist lift. It was so foggy you couldn't see your ski boots. Truly Socked In!! Two braille runs then decided to go back to the base and ski the lower lifts. On the way back down, Big Al found a tree well. Fortunately the trail we were on was so steep that he ended up on the downhill side and wasn't buried. He lost one ski and his poles before entry and had a terrible time freeing himself of his remaining ski and extricating himself. We were below him and had a hell of a time working our way uphill to help. 10 minutes later Al was back in his skis and us Old Phartz were beat. That was it and after getting to the base we called it. By that time the sun broke out on the bottom of the mtn but the top was still socked in. Just another experience we'll talk about for the rest of our lives.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  12. Just settling in after a great day at Taos. Started my day off with the What Chutes, and doodled around in some trees. I planned to make a hike up to hit Trescow or Twin Trees and I saw that the gate to Kachina Peak was open! Hikers only special, hell yeah! Made the killer hike and dropped in to K5 for amazing fresh turns all the way down. As good as it gets at Taos, not a single mogul to be found yet. I skied Hunziker and El Funko, had some lunch and then made a hike back up and did Twin Trees chute which was pretty good. Did a couple runs down Castor/Pollux, then made a hike up to St. Bernard. I’m skiing better than I ever have and finally mastered the narrow choke in St Bernard. Finished it up with a run down Pipeline, had a pretty sick wipeout, I’m okay but it was time to call it a day. Great times, I love this place! What chutes Kachina Twin Trees

  13. Day 3, damn was it windy. I’m happy I got any skiing in today, I was really surprised there were no wind holds to start off. Started off the day with 2 steep tree runs off of Bambi ridge. First did Sir Arnold Lunn, then Lorelei Trees. Pockets of powder, some nice bumpy flow and a bit of crusty snow in the more sparse trees. Went over to the backside where it was less windy and skied Hunziker Bowl, Totally Wiard, El Funko and some groomers. Some nice wind-filled spots here and there. Made a hike up the ridge and skied Zdarsky again which I’m really enjoying. I made plans to meet my wife and mom for lunch so I took 7a up to the top and dropped into the Werner Chute into Longhorn for a 1,600 ft vertical thigh burner. The winds filled up Werner with 3-4 inches of snow and it skied beautifully. ROTD for sure. After lunch, lifts 1 and 2 were shut down so I drove up an icy mountain road to the backside and parked at the Bavarian which is near the bottom of lift 4. Did a couple runs until they shut down 4 and then I called it a day. Needed a beer after the drive down, it was rough in the rental car. All in all it was a good day and I have some left in the tank for tomorrow. Sir ARnold Zdarsky West Basin Totally Wiard

  24. Not gonna quit my day job but reception has exceeded expectations with a stellar review in a well respected music paper with a 50 year history - best music media outlet in NJ. https://www.theaquarian.com/2018/09/26/shoreworld-the-beagles-bed-of-roses/ We are rehearsing to put on a 2 hour celebration of Motown next week with an expanded 20 person lineup. Similar to what we did last September.

  25. Staying at the Quality Inn & Suites Summit County. The price was reasonable (around $ 100 per night) and includes a breakfast buffet. My fly fishing gear probably only weighs 3 lbs or so total, and the fly rod tube fits inside my regular luggage. I've spent most of my CO trips at Steamboat and a few days at Winter Park, so I'm excited to hit some different places.

  38. What hotel? I usually stay at the silver inn. How much does the fly rod weigh? ABasin and Loveland are the main places I’m hitting when I go to Colorado next month. I usually hit copper as well and have skied at steamboat and beaver creek on other skifaris and aspen and crested butte years ago so people who say I only ski JH and blue can suck it.

  43. Day 3 was Grand Targhee. The bus arrived out front of our condo around 7. We all were expecting a tour bus, but it was one of those mini party busses instead. We loaded all our stuff in and then headed over to the village to pick up even more people! On our way to GT, while going through the pass, tons of back-country slider tracks could be seen on the surrounding mountain tops. Unfortunately the crappy bus windows were all fogged, so no pictures were possible. We arrived at GT to beautiful sunshine, despite the forecast of clouds. We booted up inside and made our way out to the slopes. GT is not a big mountain at all, having only 3 lifts, so we should be able to get to all the slopes we want to in a day. Took the dreamcatcher quad up to an expansive snowfield at the top, dotted with pines covered in rime ice. Off in the distance, Grand Teton could be seen. Took a warm up run down Crazy Horse that was groomed to perfection and with nobody on it, we could really get going. We had to be alert for the islands of trees right in the middle of the run though. Back up the quad and down in search of Slim’s Shot for one of our bumpers, Slim, to get a pic. We made our way out to the Sacajawea lift area to check out the conditions over there. This mountain faces West, so it was a bit difficult finding good snow. Off the lift we were eyeing up Bobcat, but decided against trying it out until we saw it from across the gulch. Down Dreamweaver and into Quiver to some horrible, crusty snow. This wasn’t where the goods were! Up Sacajawea again and down through Northern Lights which is a small bowl that faces Northwest, which was mostly chowder. Still no joy. Then it was down Wachabe Woods, which had small pockets of powder, but nothing worth repeating. Headed down to the lodge for a quick lunch and watch some hucksters throw their meat off the booters in the park up from the lodge. A great viewing point for crashes that didn’t disappoint. Some guy came down who threw a couple of tweaks off the first two booters and then into the third tried a backflip but under rotated and tipped in for a spectacular crash. He collected himself and skied down but didn’t go back up. After lunch we made our way out to the Blackfoot lift area which also had disappointing snow. It was skiable, but not vary much fun. However, from the lift we could see a cornice of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, which we decided to try. We made our way down the Headwall and through some of the lower trees. This area had some promise! Saw another guy come down and asked him how the snow up near the cornice was, to which he replied “Best snow on the mountain. Don’t tell anyone else”. All we needed to hear! The remainder of the day was spent jumping off the cornice and down through the lower woods that did have the best snow in the mountain. The thighs were scorched after that. The bus back to JH boarded at 4 and Headed back to the condo for a meal of bison burgers. Overall, once we found the snow at GT our spirits lifted and turned what we thought was gonna be meh into another great day in the Tetons. If you’re out this way it’s worth the trip over, in my opinion. I wouldn’t make it a destination or do it multiple times, but once a trip is perfect. Theyre forecasting some snow overnight, so hopefully we get some fresh powder to play in tomorrow, as we’re a bit fed up with the sun, much to the dismay of the locals. Sun pillar in the morning View from the top Slim found his run Random shot Grand Teton They know about Blue in the Tetons! The Ugly woods Clocktower and village at night Bison burgers for dinner. Delicious! Nightcap. Quite tasty!

  45. You should look into buying a Tesla. The gas you save may be best invested in a more expensive pass at a better mountain. You could buy the Tesla with a high rewards card and save money on airfare with the ikon pass that you can now afford with the money you saved by buying a Tesla.
