  2. I saw on Blue's IG yesterday that the ridge had gotten frosted so I figured I'd mosey my way up this morning and catch the show before it melts. True to there post the upper 1/4 of the hill the trees have a solid coating and with surprisingly blue skies the twinkle was majestic. A steady wind had them moving like the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies with the half babbling brook half wind chime sound. With a couple of inches the hill looks fantastic. The skiing is considerably less majestic, most everything got a solid crust and while mostly edgeable turns of merit don't have the grip for full speed. They must have blown on Coming Soon as the upper ditch is in and held super nice soft turns. YMMV as its 4 or 5 inches of soft over grass/etc. Upper main is best described as a scree field of cookies, chicken heads and super frozen bone shaking cord. The whole hill is guess your luck on picking the right groomer track but the variability on upper is laughable. Best run was Widow, midway, lower main as midway has a bit of a riser directly under the lift so you can really slut it up and get some air. I saw C1er and ZZslope but crowds were low. Rumors abound for any number of delusions of granduer as someone said they purchased the old ladies farm you can see off coming soon but maybe we already knew that....I can't keep up with everything they are supposedly doing.

  3. The flight was smooth we landed around 1230 MST and baggage came quick. We have a baller Jeep Grand Wagoneer…dropped Nazareth Jay off at his hotel, went to beer store, checked into the 49er and room wasn’t available yet as it was only like 130. Then picked NSJ at his hotel and went to the brewery for a late lunch. I had Nachos and a Zonker stout..then dropped NSJ back at his hotel and me and Atomic Jeff while we have standard rooms they in the quieter back building with both exterior and interior entrances. I’m so happy everything travel wise was smooth…usually I have a lot of pre trip anxiety and I actually slept decent last night. Here’s some pictures.

  9. Up there again tonight..Conditions were of the snow cone variety....Fast and pretty smooth....Some minor bumps on Sassy and it's still full width...The trail going around the back is really thin...Riding across semi clear ice/slush....The bottom of Timberline is starting to get thin also..Windy and a bit chilly....Snowed a little too......Place was ghosted ....and the snow was fine....Nice way to spend two hours after work....

  11. Didn’t have high hopes for conditions but the kid had a lesson so away we went. She was v excited to show anyone who listened that she had first set of poles. First two runs down Lazy and Main for 9/10. Super surprised but also delighted. Went for a TCS run and back to reality as the head wall was almost completely scraped off. NMDW wasn’t that bad but had some bigger sugar piles. Another MS before 2 post lesson laps with the kid. Less than a minute wait at both the quad and new 6. It’s surprising the lack of ski clubs mid week. Haven’t really caught a crowd yet this new year. Time to finish packing and meet the boys in JH tomorrow.

  12. While obviously not the storm of the century, trying to figure out if playing hookey from work tomorrow is the play. Wish the snow was coming in a little sooner, but we will see.

  13. Had about 4" of Fresh light snow when Hunter opened at 9, about 6" on Northface when it opened at 10:30, about 8" by the time I left at 3pm. No lines, 19 beautiful runs. My best day of this skison. Still not open: the glades, lower K27, Racers Edge and Hunter West.

  15. Hit the run under the lift once...not great but soft. Found some more glades and more mild ungroomed stuff

  16. Compared to the conditions on Saturday, this morning was good. But anything would be an improvement after Saturday's mess. The exception was, as Johnny Law said, upper main street. Chute looked bad from the lift but it skied ok. There were groomer scars here and there as one older gentleman can attest to after one got him at the midway/main street intersection. Overall, a pleasant day on the hill.

  17. Yeah, they bought that a couple years back. They grow food there for Slopeside in the green season and gave hayrides over there to there during Oktoberfest. They have a decent amount of land over that way, more on the top than the bottom. Would have to continue to swing trails wide then bring them back for the runout

  20. Conditions tonight were pretty meh...Semi frozen cut up slush with some sugar sprinkled on top...Got there around six and saw a shit ton of lessons/groups in the courtyard...Mainly just skied Timberline as it remained somewhat uncrowded with the previously mentioned folks...Skied for about an hour and a half....Good time tonight...It's the perfect set up for me..... @Johnny Law..This is where that super cool snack shack used to be...One of the old trails still runs behind it....

  23. The dancing will only slow down and stop when there's some pressure against it. The insanity that is ski ticket prices and the Taylor Swift thing just shows that there's such a gigantic middle/upper middle class in this country with disposable income and all of those people are more interested in being entertained than they are putting that money in the bank. If people weren't paying these prices then they would drop back down, but they are so they won't.

  25. Well look at what people paid to see the World Series. My friend was thrilled to luck out into seats up by the liberty bell for about tree fiddy each and went to all three home games. Same girl spent $800 for floor seats at Taylor swift and her friends will prob pay more I guess that’s like heli skiing to Swifties. I joke about leaving money on the table but I’ve never been greedy…people pay for convenience. The Arizona snowbowl pricing was an anomaly but the $130 Blue tickets on MLK weekend suddenly dropped to $98 last weekend and $98 this weekend. I like following it from the sidelines. People like deals…before I was a season pass holder at Blue, they had spring fling tickets where if you purchased a lift ticket mid season you were given a paper coupon good for half off after march 1st. Then you go march 1st and pay half price which was like $14 instead of $28 and they gave you another spring fling coupon. That’s how Blue stayed open until April 10th back then…they didn’t mess around and the old Blue would even blow snow on closing day…and now I kind of hate fresh man made at least when it’s 31 degrees out with 70% humidity when it’s 12 degrees out it doesn’t even stick to goggles. It’s like pixie dust. Woo woo woo

  27. Berkshire East is a fun mountain, Lots of interesting trails and a lot of variety. A great alternative to Mt. Snow in that area on a busy weekend. Never gets that crowded. Looks like the trail under the lift is a little thin. They don't make snow on it so it's all natural and the base isn't that great yet. East Bowl at Burke is great narrow, old style trail. The base might not be that great on it yet but if it's open it's a fun trail. Keep your speed up at the bottom for the runout. Saddleback is haul from there but I heard it is skiing great. Have fun and keep the reports up. Big Day Brewing is pretty good in Gorham, NH if it's open when you go though.

  28. Part of me would love a little cabin near Blue. The rest of me doesn't want to buy anything in a bombed out zinc valley. Even if Blue blows up in the next 15 years I find it hard to believe local property values would go up because of it.

  32. I am always thinking at some point the bottom has to drop out. I'm not talking just about skiing but the general idea that there are no limits to making the absolute most money possible but at least so far we all just keep dancing faster and faster.

  33. They were in the $150 range each day when I was there. I paid $180 for the midweek pass back in the spring so it worked out. I can't see doing window prices again anywhere. It's getting silly.

  35. It sure was nice seeing everything coated in white. Magic today, natural trails were pretty ski’d off but fun, migrated back to the groomed with fun little bump line forming along the edge of the race training slope
