  4. Super fun day on the skis..Again you had a mix bag of conditions on every open trail..Unfortunately I was not ready for the Katana like sharpening BC did on my edges...Whenever I got on to some early frozen cord/slick spots I was lookin like MC Hammer on crack..Crowds were pretty low but there are aways some kooks to keep you entertained... Big thanks to @enjoralas for all you do..

  6. yeah but at the same time if you go put new tires on your truck that will pretty much guarantee 50 and sunny for the balance of winter.

  9. Got there at 10. Spur of the moment decision, was supposed to hike today, but hubby has a project going, and he wanted to work on that. What a fun day! Snow was perfect, not crowded. So glad I went, seeing how they’re gonna be closed next 3 days.

  10. I hate to spend money on stuff that's not fun, tires, insurance, clothes washers, dosing tank pumps, etc... Spending money on new skis, boots, trips, etc., well, that's a different spending altogether!

  14. Super solid evening session. Was gonna take today off hoping to have the place to myself in the rain tomorrow but the m-w closing announcement forced me to pull an audible and get out for a couple hours. Arrived around 3:30 to the longest lift lines of the week albeit not bad at all. Lazy certainly helped spread people out some and everything was super soft and fun. Chute was a bit smooth but softened enough to not be concern holding an edge. JADIP!

  15. I chickened out of Chute. Only did Midway to Lower Main.

  16. Skied 13 runs from 1-4 with nice conditions and zero lines. They now have Jane’s Lane and Easy Rider open along with One Park and snow blown into the trees alongside the latter two.

  17. I just sent it down Chute. Man that was sketchy A.F.

  18. Chute is firm was an understatement. It was rock-solid with cat track trenches on skiers left near the top. The bottom of Chute also choked down to a tight intersection with Midway and LMS which made for some spicy merges, carrying speed off Chute. The edges of Paradise kept getting better as the day progressed and the snow was softening up nicely, but didn't quite reach hero by 11 or so when we called it quits. Nowhere near as crowded as yesterday, so both Paradise and Burma didn't have near the load of sliders which made them treacherous yesterday around the same time.

  19. I had to bail around 930 today but great day and a pretty damn good first 3 days at Blue mountain to kick off the year with decent conditions overall and more terrain each day. Excellent way to start the ski season!

  20. Some decent reasons to be optimistic about January. A little lengthy but worth it.

  21. Yes only two runs down from the top and conditions were usual blue (aka not great) but I was skiing with the PASR crew and THAT was great; not to mention, the guns were ablaze under the sunshine and the weather was perfect. Overall an awesome opening day! looks like chute to lower main, as well as come around are really close to opening up. Happy ski season all!!

  23. Conditions were just what I would expect on opening...Just going down Paradizzy you got like 5 different snow conditions....Wind was gusting pretty good and thought it was gonna be bad goin down but was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't..Super fun day with blue sky and it just feels right to be back in the lot again...

  24. Vibes were 11/10, its so good to see everyone and get back in the rythm where skiing is part of my day. I thought the snow was better than expected but only because I expected the worst and there were sections where it felt like real skiing. If they get midway/main open tomorrow that may really help thin the herds. Even on pdis anywhere where it turns was like cattle chute where the cows are only vaguely going in the right direction. For blue it was a good opening day, I even had my standard pass failure.

  26. It's not as cold today with the front still coming through. I see a temp of 27F with 75% humidity which isn't a great wet bulb temp. Vail absolutely does NOT run mountains as local mountains. They run the whole thing as a system to certain mountains' detriment, JF included. Maybe that will slowly change as the JF managers get more familiar with the mountain and the locals, but I am not holding my breath. Although I will admit they have done slightly better year by year since 2020/2021.

  27. It’s a little weird being back at the mountain and not patrolling this year, and I fully expected my first day to be at Sunday River, but a cold and other circumstances led me over to Sugarbush, and it just so happens it was opening day. It was a 3 hour drive from the in-laws in NH, and I had some family obligations to take care of, so I didn’t get into the parking lot and PLB until about 1:30. Crowds had either cleared out or were non existent. I hopped on the lift and ran into an old ski patrol buddy at the top, so we took a couple runs together. There were only 2 distinct runs with a third side run. All skiing was off the Gatehouse lift, so in reality, both trails that were open share the same starting trail and same ending trail. Regardless, conditions were excellent for late in the day on opening day. I expected similar conditions to previous years where it’s basically glacial ice with some granular bumps and icy troughs on the side. Surprisingly, only about 10 feet right in the middle was iced up. The rest was a mix of packed powder and groomed snowmaking. I guess the snow last week, combined with consistent below freezing temps and no warmup really paid off. I took 6 runs, going with a 66%/34% split on the two trails. It was great getting the legs warmed up and catching up with an old friend. Looks like 3” or more tomorrow at opening, so I’ll be looking to get after it before I head back to NH.

  28. First day. Cameras when the slope opened. One park and a couple of greens on the west side open. Maybe 50 people there in the morning. A couple of rails at the top of one park, otherwise the slope was open. Pretty wide without features on it. Good conditions, nice and firm, didn’t deteriorate at all as the morning went on. A couple people skiing the trees and the edge of Exhibition. DJ tent near the lodge, new music speakers in the lodge. Mellow vibe. New CARV sensors worked well. Top Ski IQ today was 130, top speed 36. IMG_0278.mov

  31. Got my first day in on Snowmass today. Good base compared to this time last year. I took lift alone but for the first one out of the base. Very quiet. Having some knee issues so I was taking it pretty easy. Overall great first day, blue skies, relatively warm and got a baby bump run in too, my favorite.

  32. Some pix of Huntah. Reminded me of why early season sucks. But it was ok I guess. At least I was in the general vicinity of rock legend @Ski2Live Live2Ski which was pretty rad.
