  1. Beautiful bluebird day here at elk. Spectacular semi soft spring like snow. Sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. Cool to see that they have a modern ticketing system now although the kiosk would scan my barcode so had to go to guest service. Unfortunately the quad above tunk is down so they're running that slow ass double. Either way I'm in no rush today. Always like coming up here. Especially on days like this

  2. 02/26/2024 - Whistler Day started out with some flurries falling and much colder temps in the village which locked up all the melted from yesterday, but with some snow overnight we heard some avy bombs going off at the peak. Took the Fitzsimmons 8 out and the. the Garmonzo up higher, the snow was perfect packed powder with a few inches on top, glorious. However there were patches of ice lurking that were taking some down. Lapped the Emerald lift area a bit and made our way down to Harmony to try to get some goods up too but they announced avy work wasn’t done and didn’t have an open ETA. Bailed down to Garbanzo and the skies cleared so we went up to the peak. Plenty of good snow to be found ip here. A whiteout squall rolled in that sent ip to the lodge for some lunch. The place was still packed at 1:30pm. After lunch ran the Glacier bowl T-bar for some fun. Then it was back up to the peak and down to play around off the Harmony and Symphony lifts. Made one last run ip to the peak to do the Peak-to-creek run, but it was closed part way down. Dinner was at 21 Steps with the rest of the tour group. Nice place and good food.

  7. Hey all, I’m back from another fun morning at Blue mountain the true mountain. I arrived at the lower lot at 830am and it was 38 degrees and 46 degrees at the upper entrance, mad inversion yo under mostly sunny sky’s. In the house were Atomic Jeff, his work friend, Bethlehem ford crew, Rodney crew, Oz crew, Pops, Eaf and a handful of others. Second civilian Super summit safari six pack to Main Street which was soft soft coed on the top and stiffer below. I split up with Jeff and friend cause didn’t feel like waiting..then did challenge which was a little firmer then Main Street but smooth. Then Widowmaker to chute and chute was just starting to corn up. Then off to razors which was super smooth cord on the left side..just a little soft. coming soon also good and the in run was full on corn. I returned back to the chute and super nice corn on the far right. Then hit up Razors again followed by sidewinder which had a nice mini ditch on the lower left..was nice having an empty run on that since it’s super popular with the goobers. Returned to the Chute again and passed Pops on Raceway and ended my session with another sidewinder. All in all super nice exactly the conditions I expected but less people. I’m thinking they may close tomorrow due to rain. JADIP

  8. Just finished up a quick 3 days at my favorite mountain Taos Ski Valley. This was the first time that we’ve gone as a family and I didn’t put my kids in ski school. Skied a bunch with the family which was a blast. It’s nice that my kids are good enough now to follow me around some fun terrain, and I got a kick out of showing my son the steeps in west basin which he had never hiked to before. The weather was warm and sunny all three days but the snow remained nice and chalky so everything was in play aside from some slopes that face south which are rarely good anyway. On day 2 my kids and I shared a lift ride with pro skier Connor Ryan (@sacredstoke) who I was familiar with from a fifty project episode and also “Spirit of the Peaks” Movie. Awesome friendly guy and we had a great conversation and shared our stoke for skiing. Highlights were skiing Kachina with my daughter and seeing bighorn sheep up top, and taking my son into Stauffenberg and St. Bernard in west basin which are some of the most legit steeps in North America. Wish I could stay longer but I’m blessed to get it in if even for just 3 days.

  10. Did you know that little round top is located near round top mountain in nearby Gettysburg…on the battlefield actually. the confederate army attempted to storm little round top to get the coveted higher ground. It didn’t pan out and the confederate army was pushed back. Had that happened there’s a good chance the south wins the battle, storms Washington and wins the war. Picketts charge happened near little round top on day 3. That effectively ended the battle and was the turning point of the war. Gettysburg is an amazing yet somber place. The country as we know it would perhaps not be had it not been for the events that occurred there. Probably best that I stop now as I can go on and on about the civil war.

  14. 02/25/2024 - Blackcomb Ip early as usual so searched the are for breakfast shops and came across a fitting place, Moguls. Had bacon, egg, cheese wrap that they baked after rolling it up which was pretty good. Of course it was raining in the village and pretty hard too. We made our way up to the gondy center and took the Excalibur out. Only took a couple hundred feet and the rain had changed to snow. From the gondy it was up Excelerator into heavier snow and fog. Unfortunately with the wind that was also blowing up higher, 7th Heaven and above weren’t open. Rand down Buzz Cut in the few inches of powder which was fun, but was lipstick on a pig at the bottom. Back up Excelerator as the lines were beginning to lengthen. Took the Jersey Cream express into the eye of the storm. Over a ridge and the wind rocked you like a hurricane. Headed down Wishbone to Cruiser for a nice long run through pow to crust to beginning mush at the bottom. After lunch the fog started to clear but the winds hadn’t really subsided so we headed down to the Blackcomb gondy since there shouldn’t be any lines which there weren’t and we found out why midway up. The winds were picking up and pausing the gondy. At one point we sat for 20 mins as the winds felt like they were going to blow the car off the line! People said they’ve been coming to WB for 17 years and never saw the gondy stop for wind before. You know it’s bad when the lifites are taking vids of the cars flailing. Decided to call it and head back to the hot tub. Dinner was at The Old Spaghetti Factory in high was pretty reasonable for salad, pasta, bread and dessert. Recommended. Afterwords WB on Sundays puts on a Fire & Ice show w/ slope style athletes jumping through a hoop of fire and native Canadians dancing and playing music. Sorry not many pics as it was way cold and windy. View of Whistler while stuck on gondy… Ricing the wind… IMG_8757.mov Fog clearing out… Dinner… Fire & Ice show…

  15. 02/24/2024 - Travel Rick, son and myself left the house @ 2am headed for Newark to meet up with Slim, Gary, Gah skier George & Jr. for flight @ 6am headed for Toronto, then bro Vancouver. Uneventful flight and even stayed awake for all of Oppenheimer. Good flick. Since we’re actually on an Upper Bucks tour, we had to wait around a bit for the tour bus to arrive. Typical Pacific Northwest weather: rain and fog. Drove through downtown Vancouver because there’s no highway around it. Brilliant! Drive up to Whistler provided some amazing views of the Howe Sound, with mountains knitting straight up out of the water. Unfortunately I was on the wrong side of the bus for pics. After a grocery stop in Squamish, we resumed the ride into Whistler and checked into The Listel Hotel. Some pretty nice digs right next to town square. Dinner was some slices from Dat Tony’s which were delicious, the sauce was crazy good! Recommended for the food, no place to sit though. It didn’t matter since we were starving. Walked around the square a little and stocked up on essentials from the cannabis and liquor stores. Some light snow was falling and supposed to continue through the night. Leaving Newark… Vancouver airport… Vancouver… Squalmish… Witch of something imprint on the mountain… Whistler…

  16. 2 runs down Barneys, the first one was without rain and the second with. First one was great and second which was the last before bailing not so much. I was amazed at how slick it got with just a few minutes worth. Did Coming soon Ditch twice which was awesome 4 runs but a lot nicer than expected. I was driving down Blue Mountain drive feeling a little disappointed but saw a bus inbound ,bad timing. I wasn’t planning on going up today but got a job done early. A couple places have dirt bleeding through but good coverage although the usual seasonal brown tint.

  24. This morning was really fantastic. No real lift lines, not much traffic on the slopes, sun shining after the first few lift rides, good grooming, freshly blown ditch, chatty boomers, mild temps. Quite enjoyable.

  26. Travel day yesterday was grueling. Park n Ride off 33 at 3am. 1st flight 630am, landed in Dallas barely had a layover. 2nd flight from Dallas to Missoula around 1230. On to the bus, quick stop for groceries, liquor store and place that won’t be named on a public forum. Got to the resort at dark, got all our stuff in. I got 5 tickets, we’re here for 6 days, so we decided to take today. Just checking out the resort and taking bus into Whitefish.

  30. Was watching radar and hoping the rain moved through after the heavy stuff was done but no dice. Fog was thicc on the top half and rain slowed but didn’t quit. Fam skied an hour before we were soaked through. Maybe 15 people on the hill and 12 of them were lapping the park. Snow was nice and wet but becoming dirty with the warmth. Couple skeet spots on Switch poking through and Razors was closed. No practice going on though so not sure why. Challenge is quite dark in the middle.

  31. Will they have summer jobs? What a time to be a teenager..even the local hot dog shops are paying $15 an hour. I worked three jobs the summer between 10th and 11th grades. Paper boy, mowed a bunch of lawns and Rita’s Italian ice $4.25 an hour. Now I just ski 2 hours a day or an hour and a half and post random shit online

  36. Yeah hit RT sat and Hunter Sun. Excellent conditions both placed both days - Spring like at RT, firm but carveable at Hunter. Between the two we wound up driving as far as we would have hitting Mt Snow, but that was not an option as kids had a Gospel Choir performance on Sat Nt. The way this season is going we get in the turns when we an. Also had a guy I met my last trip to Hunter who is training for PSIA cert give the kids a complimentary private lesson while we were there which was a wonderful way to improve their form. Tried to offer him $ after but he declined. Expect he is quite well off as he has a trail side condo at Hunter.

  38. Well he should do something about these lifts cause they're pretty archaic. Hopefully his daughter can talk some sense into him

  39. At Montage last week I got to talking with an older dude who was waiting for his grandkids to show up- says he knows Elk's owner personally, even did some contractor type work for him years ago- says he's such a cheapskate that when those lifts broke down last year he fixed them with used parts not new ones, to save a little money! so he won't ski there anymore- says owner's 91 y.o. & the guy's daughter is heavily involved & may take over some day- he's heard nothing about a sale & doesn't believe the old man would anyway. He also said that the owner was so pissed about a nearby condo development going up that he banned the condo owners from skiing at Elk- which was the reason most bought their condos to begin with- wtf!

  44. I'll curse them if they don't make it into April. At least, this is my plan, and they'd better abide by it. But you've got to admit, they had a tremendous come back after a pretty lousy and depressing start this year. Jeez, that Paradise opened so late and hardly half of its usual width. Now it's thick and wide, and they stashed mounds of snow on NMDW. I anticipate a lovely and crowdless March. Best time of the year.
